The Toyota Prius Apreciation Thread

Most diesel cars get better gas mileage than a Prius, but when we talk about its performance merits we should set aside its method of propulsion and focus instead on how it fares on a racetrack against other cars in its PP class.

Batteries are a bridge from petrol to something better. My honest opinion is screw batteries and start growing hemp to make biodiesel fuel with...If every car required diesel fuel, the technology would get so much better.

I don't hate the Prius not the best car but still good fun.

I don't consider myself a fan of the Prius, but this tread made me itching to buy a Prius in GT6! Kinda looking forward to trying a Prius.

Damn, this thread also wants to me to get a Prius. If only you could change the gearbox... the Insight can get the custom tranny, so why not the Prius?!

And I agree with most. The car isn't worth the money you pay for it in real life. You could probably get better economy from a Toyota Yaris at much lower price. And honestly, if you have the money for a Prius, you wouldn't be losing anything if you instead get a fully loaded Camry V6 which you would enjoy more..

I don't know the right term, but the Prius takes much more than a year to see your investment bring positive results, and in these times, very little people would keep a car like this for more than a year.

But that's the beautiful thing about the automotive industry. There are good cars and bad cars. As car enthusiasts we love them all no matter what.

Not my...favorite car by a long shot...but it's still way better than the Leaf...and I like the pictures here too I guess...*revs Viper and reverts to ironic manliness*

^This!

Do you mean the old Insight or the new? The old one was available with a 5-speed manual gearbox, so maybe that's why. I'm not sure. Yes the CR-Z comes with a manual box too, but it gets half the mpg!

The newer Insight also had a 5-speed paddle shift available in real life. This is evident because when you install the racing transmission into the vehicle, it gains a paddle-shift animation. Try it for yourself! It's a really cool feature.

WOW... my time to shine. IRL there are many ways to make a hybrid, which is why each manufacturer has its own name for it. The Toyota has Hybrid Synergy Drive (HSD) and Honda has Integrated Motor Assist (IMA). There are more, but dont want to go too OT.
The HSD works by having a large motor and generator built into a CVT gearbox. The engine is unaffected by hybrid system. As the motor is built into the transmission it has the ability to power the wheels without engine power which is why you can drive a prius up to 30 mph (IIRC) in electric mode IRL.

The IMA system works using a magnetic flywheel which boosts the power from the engine. In normal driving it would mean that less demand is put on the engine as the flywheel picks up the slack. As it is there only to boost the engine power IRL you can not drive it in electric mode only. The engine and gearbox are unaffected in this setup, so any engine and gearbox could be fitted. Which is why i am guessing is which you can put a custom tranny on a Honda but not the Prius.

tl;dr Toyota has hybrid built into gearbox, Honda has it in flywheel, which is why you can change trannys on Honda but not Prius

1.9 million Prius's got recalled due to "unintended acceleration", where the engine would accelerate to full throttle and stay there with no way of stopping. Almost ruined Toyota, and is why they now offer a 5 year warranty. Kinda makes the flames a bit ironic.
Wow! I never really forgot about that scandal, but it did stay in the back of my mind. It'll only make you faster on the Green Hell though

The funny thing is that there are loads of recalls that happen on all sorts of cars every year. It was Toyota's handling of the recall that was the problem. Most car manufacturers are quite hush hush with recalls and unless they local government requires them to do a recall they typically don't, and do whats known as a service campaign (fix car in service and not tell customer). When recalls happen they will send out letter, play down the problem and ask you to 'pop in when you can'. Toyota, being a Japanese company follows a common Japanese business practice of admitting when they getting something wrong (honesty best policy etc) (there is a Japanese term for this, cant remember now). By openly admitting there was a problem and telling everyone it caused panic, as this was unheard of in the motor industry....And then media caught wind of the story.

Great timing! Can't play GT6 until tomorrow, so your timing with the tunes fitted perfectly into my schedule!

Thank you very much, @Tarkata! I'll try 'em out tomorrow, and can't wait to try them out! :D

I have 2 Prius sitting in my GT6 garage. The Prius G '09 and the touring car. Both are passionate pink with the dark coloured BBS wheels.
My girlfriend loves these cars so this is her way of owning one (with my credits). Its also a hell of a lot easier on my wallet :D
Sad thing is I did a quick SM setup on them. She is faster than I am in them :(
Ill get a pic later of them.
