The Ultimate Porsche

Easy, a 964 Turbo.

I'm going to go with the 993 Turbo. I haven't driven any of them, but I'd think it's the most competent all-rounder they've had. Maybe barely too fast, it seems to be the most characterful and last truly soulful 911 made. Nevermind those super ridiculous Yellow Birds, or the beefy 930s, which will just throw even the best driver into a wall backwards with the slightest thought of lifting with the wheels even marginally turned.

But on a good day, you can warm up to it safely, and once the tires are nice and grippy, you can go as fast as you want, and even have enough go left in it to relive those scary days if you're feeling particularly reckless.

911 GT1... 700 hp, only around 25 in the world

And they're thinking of making a spiritual successor...

if it looks anything like that... holy 🤬 :dopey:

Is this another one of those "ultimate" threads... happy to have started the first one...:sly:

They are? the Carrera GT went out of production a while ago now, they are thinking of bringing it back for that ugly thing?

It most-certainly is a contest!

Absolute purity. Perhaps the only car that can hold a candle to it:

Ohh theres a few. I'm not posting pics

You got the little known 2.8 RSR. It can easily be turned road legal, looks the same as a 2.7 RS but is faster and slightly wider and more involving to drive.

You got the 964 RS. Probably closest thing to the 997 RS for pure pedigree. Does away with turbos but also weight to create one of the most potent machines from Porsche.

You got the 993 GT2. I love the way this thing looks with those rivetted wheel arches.

You got the 997 GT3 RS. Pure

but...my favourite has to be the 996 GT1 Strassen Version that mPWRD mentioned. It is bad on roads, it DOES NOT have 700hp - only approx 525, but just look at the back of one and you'll be hooked. It's up there with my all time favourites.

I see your ugly, hideous and egg-eyed 996 GT1 and raise this,

Atleast this has good old flat six producing the power instead of silly V10..

Not even a contest. :D

Absolutely!:D

I also like the Porsche 928 S4

Because I like my V8s, this one had roughly LS1 power, sounded awesome, looks awesome, and the 911 is to the real world what a Clio is to GT5:P (Too common).

Rue
Any info on this one I just stumbled across...? I never studied German at school.

1050nm of torque I think

Will have to translate, gimme a few mins.

EDIT:

4.0 Boxer 6 Bi-Turbo
1050 nm torque

"Ugly" and "Unsuccessful" do not describe that car.

And, yes, Subarus have boxers so that isn't completely off topic.

Because the bugeye Impreza was unsuccessful. In actual fact, it REALLY wasn't.

Porsche-wise, i'll go for the GT3 RS, 917, or Carrera GT.

+1. The only other one I would highly rank above is the 993 GT2, except it'll do exactly what exige said. Throw you into a wall.

His is actually a 993 as well, just based on the '97 model, or better known as a GT1 Evo. Those headlamps would then move onto the 996 version below.
