The Ultimate Porsche

The ULTIMATE porsche 911

I couldn't decide on ONE Porsche that could be pointed out as "the ultimate", so I ended up picking what I believe to be the best ones, each has its own special place, time and use.

^^ Doesn't get half the credit it deserved, imo. Not then, not now.

The 993 RS for me. This car is just pure sex! The Turbo S and GT2 look gorgeous too, but without turbo the boxer just sounds better

To everyone posting different 911s from the past 10yrs odd, how can you tell the difference between them?:P Just say: 911s from past 10yrs.

I thank God every day that I don't have a sister.

It's worse when she goes out of her way to make trouble for others.

You need to love them to be able to tell :sly:

To me a Falcon and a Monaro are exactly the same, let alone the diferrent model years. I'm sure you won't agree on that one ;)

Because the bugeye Impreza was unsuccessful. In actual fact, it REALLY wasn't.

Porsche-wise, i'll go for the GT3 RS, 917, or Carrera GT.

Er, yes it sold a lot, but this was because it was the newest, fastest around. Why did Subaru release a facelift soon(ish) after the bug eyed was released?
Its the same with the new generation. Just because it has created a lot of controversy didn't stop it selling just as well as any other car. It still copped it from people with an eye for design

+1. The only other one I would highly rank above is the 993 GT2, except it'll do exactly what exige said. Throw you into a wall.

His is actually a 993 as well, just based on the '97 model, or better known as a GT1 Evo. Those headlamps would then move onto the 996 version below.

Really? I have been following this car for a long time and this is the first I heard of it being anthing else than a 996.

You're right, I won't.:sly:

See, one has 2 doors, the other has 4 doors, plus all the other differences. While...

I can see the intake on the side and the headlights, anything else different?:sly:

I suppose it's also worth mentioning that I have no idea what order the Porsche model numbers go in.

I'll side with Paulie saying that the Monaro and the Falcon are completely different, but the Porsches are NOTHING alike aswell. The 996 has different body panels - only the roof stays the same. Different front/back lights etc.
The profile is Very similar between the 996 and the 997 but someone with a basic eye for design or a fondness for Porsches can easily tell them apart at a glance.

PS it's 911, 930, 964, 993, 996, 997:tup:

Well I think he was joking slightly about the Monaro/Falcon thing, but I guess I'm just not that keen on Porsche 911s to have bothered learning the differences. I am keen on their engines though, they make so much power from an N/A 6cyl it's unbelievable! And people praise the 370Z's V6? Pfft, POS compared to what Porsche (and indeed TVR as well) can do. Or at least, that's the way it seems.:sly:

As the wiki states:
Porsche made minor revisions to the car for the 1997 Le Mans, including restyling the front end to incorporate "kidney shaped" headlamps like what would appear a year later on the 996 generation 911s, and Boxsters; this version is known as the 911 GT1 Evo (or Evolution).

The '98 GT1 is also referred to as the 996 model due to coming out in the same year as the 996 generation. :)

I think you're missing what makes Porsches great. Rather than pumping out all new things every few years, they just keep remodeling and reworking the current car. And this is great because it stays (more or less) true to the original, and yet still a benchmark car. If they didn't do this, then we'd probably just have another FR GT car with a V8 or turbo six.

I suppose it's also worth mentioning that I have no idea what order the Porsche model numbers go in.

In the 911 range:

  • Classic (1964-1989)
  • 930 (1974-1989) (Turbo Classics)
  • 964 (1989-1993)
  • 993 (1993-1998)
  • 996 (1999-2004)
  • 997 (2004-present)
  • 998 (Currently in development)

The Bugeye ran from 2001 to early 2003 (officially), the Blobeye ran from 2003 to 2005, the Hawkeye ran from 2005 to 2007, see the pattern? Don't comment if you don't have a clue...

Yeah, but Nissan can't spend as much on the engine and they also have to factor in fuel economy to a good extent.

The ulimate Porsche... I can't choose one.

993 GT2
993 Carrera RS Clubsport
964 Carrera RS (personal fav)
996 GT3

Probably the SCARIEST porsche ever...

Doing 100 mph on the motorway, and one of these is right behind you with a siren on... oh:censored:

Porsche 911 Turbo that looks like a serious cop car: ~$150,000
Being able to scare the living daylights out of unsuspecting drivers: priceless.👍
