The Ultimate Porsche

I think you're missing what makes Porsches great. Rather than pumping out all new things every few years, they just keep remodeling and reworking the current car. And this is great because it stays (more or less) true to the original, and yet still a benchmark car. If they didn't do this, then we'd probably just have another FR GT car with a V8 or turbo six.

In the 911 range:

  • Classic (1964-1989)
  • 930 (1974-1989) (Turbo Classics)
  • 964 (1989-1993)
  • 993 (1993-1998)
  • 996 (1999-2004)
  • 997 (2004-present)
  • 998 (Currently in development)

Interesting, very interesting.👍 Porsche certainly are fairly unique with their design process too, simply improving what they have.👍

It's not tricky. They go up.

Yeah well, you never know, just look at the VE Commodore, it was preceded by VZ, VY, VX.........:)

930 SC would be my personal choice. they're available for under 20k USD nowadays..

*Looks back up to list* I see, so a '74-'89 911.:)

Yeah, but Nissan can't spend as much on the engine and they also have to factor in fuel economy to a good extent.

Doesn't the 911 still get better fuel economy than a 370Z as well?

Correct. It's just a Carrera carrying TechArt aero pieces & a slight bump in power.

Ok, youre right. Just researched it... but that would still be quite scary. I mean, the Carrera's no slouch either.

For me it's got to be a tie between the 993 Turbo, 996 Turbo, and 997 Turbo. All three are just pure automotive porn, the 993 being air cooled gets the distinction of being the last of the original engined 911's. ;)

No, but it's pretty similar actually. 18/26 EPA for the 370Z and 18/25 for the Carrera and Carrera S. The 370Z has 332 HP out of 3.7 liters while the Carrera has 344 out of 3.6 liters and the Carrera S has 385 out of 3.8 liters. I still think the 370Z is impressive considering the price, but I'm not one to get hung up on HP/liter.

The 370Z actually has a 3.7 litre, hence the 370Z name. :dunce:

[/thread] ;) :D
Wow, all that noise. And only 255 ps.

Sounds like my kind of engine!

But either way, I'm honestly holding out for a special Boxter. The front-engined Porsches bore me and the rear-engined ones scare me a bit too much for me to put them over the perfect yet pedestrian Boxter. Boxter Turbo, perhaps?

Yes actually, the 370Z is 18/25 and the 3.6 liter 911 gets 19/27. Plus the 911 is more than a half-second quicker to 60. Credit the lighter weight and slightly smaller engine (3.6 vs 3.7).

Please don't double-post, 911~Lad. There is an edit button at the bottom right of your post.

Plus, what significance does Richard Hammond owning a car have? Plus, his is only an S, not a Turbo.

Poeple say the 2S (what he has) is more of a drivers car. More pure, raw with handling closer to what it was originally designed for. The turbo is good, yes, but it's heavier and more for straight lines and showing off how much Gs one can get out of it. The S (2 in particular) is said to be a more focused drivers car where one can feel the road and hit an apex with more satisfaction.

It would take me five pages to post pics of all the best Porsches, so i'll try and make do. Let's face it though, every Porsche is ultimate.

917s- two 917K's (Gulf and red/white , a 917 PA Spyder (white car on left) , 917/10 (white/red), 917LH (martini) , 917/30 (Blue/Yellow Sunoco)
