Spill the beans fellas. I was just curious to know which view mode do you guys use while you are drifting? I like the 3rd pov. Are there any drivers here that like the hood or in dash view? How do you feel the advantages/disadvantages?

I all ways use the bumper cam while racing or drifting. It just feels weird using the DFP in 3rd person view and I don't like the roof cam at all it is too high and it angled down too much.

I use the in car view. Just seems natural. I've found I also judge my entry speed and where to turn in quite a bit better. That, and the chase cam seems to follow the car slowly when it turns.. meaning there is a delay of some sort... its oodd to me...

EDIT: BTW, its not a bumper cam... otherwise you would be looking in there exhaust and bumper when you are behind other cars...

ah, might get a good discussion out of this 👍
may be interesting to see what the prevailing camera mode is

I used to use the chase cam for drifting in GT3, so I'm still more comfortable drifting with that view now. It gives me a greater sense of where each wheel is on the road, and what my rotation is.

I use the roof cam for racing. It lets me tail another car closely without bashing him, and gives a better sense of the car width and it's edges than the other in car cam - or whatever we're gonna call it.
I'm trying to convert to drifting with the roofcam so I have an unobstructed view of the coming turn, but its a slow process.

I want to get use to the hood cam b/c visibility is greater. I agree with the chase cam showing misleading speeds. Sometimes I don't notice my speedo and I go right into the wall. I can't quite get the hang of the 1 person views, I'll keep trying. I'm fairly new to drifting. What track would you guys suggest for a slower car to drift in? I have a levin set up for drifting. I'm still trying to tweak it, but its getting there. :-)

I use the in car but I know there is more angle to be had say, if I had the 3 split screens, because several times I've held a really high angle but been unable to see the next apex.

But it isn't really an in car cam also because then you would see the hood of the car and you would bump the car in fount of you before his bumper is right in the camera.

I think it is more of a camera mounter to the front of the hood of the car. ;)

i use the "bumper cam", though i think the "roof cam" would be the best if you got used to it

I think 1st person view represents the width of the car and not just the in the cockpit so you'll go off road only if you see the ground on the bottom of the screen or that you'll scrape a wall if you see it directly to the left/right/in front of the screen.

This means that you get full view/use of the road (I think)

i use the roof cam, racing and drift, it helps me see a little better,i used the follow cam in gt3 for drifting, but now i think get a more like im driving the car feeling. :)

i use the in-car view. i personally don't see that great of a difference between in-car and roof view, but the in-car view gives me a full view, and makes me focus on the road rather than how close my front bumper is to the car infront of me. i think its more effective to look at the apex to know when the car infront is going to brake.

In car view for me. No matter how much I try, it feels like I'm driving a remote control car in the 3rd person view. :dopey:

Hehe lol, I DO drift with the chase view I can compare the angle MUCH better then:tup:

Edit: But I race with the roof view, it seems like your actually IN the car looking thrue the window and seeing the front of your car, it's NOW that I realise it's "roof" view:dopey:

i use roof view with my DFP  the view helps me to control how close to the grass, or wall or w/e i get before i end up hittin it. its pretty dam easy!! but then again im still learnin to dr1ft

Ive used the roof cam since i got GT4. I allways missed (in GT3) being able to see the car im in, but the 3rd person cam was a little unmanagable when grip racing. Now i can at least see a little of the car graphics as well as it feeling more realistic to me as I can at least look down and see some of my cars hood. When I was learning to drift I always used the chase cam in both games because it gives more visual info on the cars behavior as well as where the track ahead is. 👍

Why does it matter...

In car view, trying to get it as best simulated as possible. Racing, drifting, whatever, in car view. The other views seem weird to me. Roof view seems kinda high, the chase cam doesn't give a natural feel to me, kinda like an video game, even though it is a video game. You know what i mean :).

I agree 100%! 👍

I use the roof view for everything. I love being able to see the hood. Sometimes on really sideways drifts I lose track of where I am though. I tried the third person view once and timing when to cut in is completely different and if your driving a big car it creates a massive blindspot.

My favorite views in racing games are the ones where you can see the dash and your sitting behind the wheel. That would be a little too much to ask for in a game with as many cars as GT4 though.

In car, bumper cam, hovercraft view, whatever you call it is what I use for everything. 👍

Never used it till GT4. I think it gives a wider view which allows me to trace the racing line better in drift. I use the feedback from the DFP to feel the angle and slip/traction. Memorizing every turn's character also helps with not being able to see the car's reaction to drift.

Chase. Helps me judge corners better, and lets me still see the road when my car is going sideways during a drift or while linking drifts. I drive with a Dual Shock if that matters at all as well.
