The Verdict: Patch v1.13

When taking a photo it now looks like a real car (Premium) has been photoshopped on top of an average game, the cars look so out of place!

^^^ They tweaked reflections and lightning for sure!

Also standard cars has improved reflections too. They now reflect light almost like premiums.

Headlights now useful and light up the track (finally).

Do you see any differences between this and update 1.10? Because I don't :) Maybe under lamp is better lighting in the cockpit...

Here is an ugly scene for your eyes to rest on.

Sometimes I take a break from racign and Demo some of the slower cars in the game on the Eiffel track (love how they struggle uphill, giggles). If they are slow enough they wont make it, and ends up in the grass.

There are 2 issues here:

1. Lots of flickering all over the car model (premium is worst, since drop of visuals is largest).

2. The grass graphics are worse than i've seen on PS2.

Try with one of these cars (others can work with cheapest tires on):

Carol 360 Deluxe '62 by Mazda (1962, Japan)
Schwimmwagen typ166 '42 by Volkswagen (1942, Germany)
2CV Type A '54 by Citroën (1954, France)

How do you patch a game and reduce the visual fidelity?

Even if it was for framerate or tearing, was the framerate ever so bad that it needed a reduction in graphics? The tearing, fair enough, even I noticed that, but I am hoping this was some LOD gone wrong issue with the patch like the LSD issue.

Yeah, it's big surprise, but good or bad? I think, that this update brought more good things than bad things....

So far here is a complete list of changes I have noticed since 1.11. I'd like this to be posted in the OP.

- Most freezes have resolved except Premium Dealership crashes
- Decrease in track load times
- Decrease in menu load times
- No blocky textures or shadows
- Decrease in image quality (very minor, almost not noticeable)
- No longer to change LSD settings on FF cars
- Smoother framerate
- Smoother gameplay
- Less image tearing in-game
- Faster online track loading times

There's bound to be more I missed. I'll add them when I find them.

Seriously ?! I've try one run on the top gear test track with the elise 111R and the blocky shadow where still there, I can't see a difference.

For the framerate and tearing it feel definitively more "natural", for the decreasing image quality I can't see any differences.... but the lightning felt like reworked

Ive noticed 2 things ive not ever seen before update.

Nurburg 24h track at around 8pm (right when the sun is about to go) when you drive on the racing part of the track many times the track is missing at one place, you see through the textures. Dont know if this has been reported before but its happened to me 3 times now (online). And another thing, game can suddenly get locked online when race is over and its about time to go for another race.

You are the only one to report seeing these textures.

The sharpness setting on the tv should be set to lower for an HD display, it's designed for poor picture quality inputs like analogue.

Ok, so I have a 40in Sony Bravia HDTV that outputs at 1080p. Are you saying the game would look "better" if I lowered the sharpness in my TV settings? Because I noticed all games I play on my HDTV seem to look better with the Sharpness all the way up. Maybe it's just a personal preference though.

I play GT5 right now on Sony 24" TV in 1080i and seems that really game look better. FPS is more stable, but edge of smooke or shadows are still same :)

I play in 1080i on a 26 inch Toshiba and I see nothing like you are describing.

26"? Of course you don't. Try it on a 60" 1080p rear projection and you will see it.

Every interior dash I've tried has lower rez textures mainly on the speedometer, etc. The rest of the interior looks the same. The worst is how crap the driver's gloves look now.

No money lol. The biggest I have is a 1080p 240hz 55 inch Sony Bravia. I don't see it on that either.

It's interesting... is possible, that it is because of I play with one standart car on Nurburgring 24h... But PD surely something done with lights and illumination

btw. This is not still fixed!?

That TV is worth more than mine! :)

I guess if people never really paid that much attention before the difference would be very subtle to indistinguishable. As a videophile that has my setup tweaked to the hilt with multiple levels of power conditioning, exotic cords, shielding, etc. GT5 has been my reference game tweaking settings and what not. I know exactly how it's "supposed" to look.

I have always liked to race with the music and HUD off. Now when I race and I'm like why the **** can't I tell how fast I'm going? Oh yeah! Smeary instrument panels! :ouch:

well took ages to download the massive 62 mb update cant say i have noticed any difference in the game. I am hoping like most people that one day an update will take the game in a better direction. PS 62 mb can sure fix a heck of alot of issues.:ill:

Don't know if this is v1.11 specific but I've noticed the Camaro SS '10 has it's 6th gear set to 321mph on standard transmission (I'm pretty sure it was around 200mph pre 1.11). Can anyone else confirm this?

Is it just me or do all standard cars have better reflections? They aren't higher res, but then "gleam" and reflect light better. Maybe I am nuts. Also I think the bloom effects from the sun have been toned down. Also I am getting nasty shadowing with the Lexus LFA in cockpit view on Laguna Seca. The right side of the wheel has permanent nasty shadows.

I have this happen to me as well and the sun going down tends to mess up at certain parts with color, I think they tried to redo how light refracts off the car windows. Yet I get the big blue glob that doesn't look quite right on my screen at certain points when the sun hits it.

^ It is like the blue streak on the image but it was bigger on mine.

That's an issue with the lighting on the time transition tracks, which has been the case since the game first came out.

This is a problem with specular reflection, when a light is very close along the plane of the surface (yet underneath) and the camera is close to the surface.
I don't know the maths of how it comes out, or how to get rid of it(probably computation expensive)

At the end of the cone is actually the position sun is (well, a long way away under the road in the direction from the camera to that point).

Here increased too, 516kb --> 1538kb (just upgrade to 1.11, i no did nothing more)

is more an addition to the FF bug Settings LSD?

My game save on both my profiles has increased too.

My main account, 1030kb to 2025kb
My other account, 493kb to 1500kb.

I hope the out of memory bug been fixed once and for all.

that right there is quite the difference^ and can cause quitre large problems on the ps3 harddrive.. my game save also says its been used for about 2000 days..
