New Seiko SNZG11J1 military arrived today :) The box was not original, and I was affraid it had the wrong manual, but it was correct after all. what also frigthend me was the the "other language" for the day.

I actually like the strap. The blue suits the blue dial really well.

The official watch of the Russian Space program; the Fortis B-42 Cosmonaut Day/Date :D

IMG_1592.jpg

I already have the white faced version, now I want the black one. :grumpy:

It doesn't take more than a few seconds for anyone to tick with that watch. Did you post the whiteface in here? (Can't remember seeing it.) I've heard this watch mentioned by others; guess there must be something more to it apart from the absolutely stunning looks.

MarcoM . . . your Seiko 5 Sports brings back many a memory; owned several Seikos, still have a few, rarely, rarely wear them. Man, those watches were so tough.. . .

Thanks, a6m5, was nice to recollect seeing that; this thread doesn't really move express-train quick; more watching than waiting ;) . I like the whiteface, too, but the black is very 'macho' ;) . Whiteface to work (gentleman), blackface to play (badboy).

The military-style 5 does look more rugged, but I had a look at yours, and that steel and blue combo always works so well . . .
Haven't bought a new watch in ages since my trio of Bulovas keep going on and on and on . . . but this thread may have a hand in getting me shopping.

I was hammering a post into the ground yesterday and the retaining pin flew off my Welder. Couldn't find it so I'm not wearing a watch today. Feels weird, like not wearing a seat belt or underwear.

Nice pickup dude - Seiko's are amazing value. It's the perfect size for your wrist too  I also have a soft spot for canvas straps. You could also dress it up with a nice NATO strap 👍.

^what you said.

What I read: "time for another new watch". :D

All nicely freeing, but introduces unnecessary dangers into your day. ;)

I'm still rocking my 12 year old Seiko and the Invicta I liked a few months ago more or less disappeared online. :odd:

^ yeah like you cannot see what time it is.

Wow axletramp, that is quite an expensive piece. Going to get it fixed?

Not a bad idea but for now I just need a new pin. I really want a Bell & Ross but I'm a bit of a 'watch killer' and my pieces end up scratched and damaged. I'm on my second strap for the Welder already but the watch itself appears to be bullet proof - just as well. :indiff:

The combination of both doesn't bear thinking about...

Cheers, it was a present from my wife a few years back. Yeah, it takes pretty standard strap pins so I just need to get off my arse and visit a decent jewellers.

I like watches, but I've become stuck on a certain line of them, and I'm considering getting my third (broke the first, lost the second).

Citizen in the early 00s had a watch called a Promaster Air Eco-Drive Skyhawk JR3000, It was a stainless steel quartz watch, which had a face that would charge from the sun, and therefore never required a new battery. My father had one when I was younger, and I thought it was the coolest watch ever.

So I bought one, I bought the Blue Angles edition, which is in front of me now, and had that for a short time, unfortunately the slide rule broke (a piece of metal which slides around the edge of the face to calculate measurements), and the battery was left in the dark for too long, so I replaced it with the titanium version JR3090-59E.

I've just lost it after 4 years of use, I don't know where, it could turn up, but I have a feeling it won't.

So now, I want to buy a JR3060-59F, Which is just like my Dad's version, except its titanium, however, it now appears out of stock.

Yes, Citizen continued on with a 3rd generation Skyhawk, and there's rumoured to be a 4th under development, but the current one is too large, and I fear the same for the next.

I'd like to hear if anyone thinks they can beat the watch. Forget price, people will pay stupid amounts of money for watches, 'if' they do the right thing, I've found a JR3060-59F for $660, but that's a stupid price considering I can have the watch I just lost for half of that, so I won't pay it, if it were under $400 delivered, I'd seriously consider it, under $350 (new) I'd buy it on the spot.

It needs slide rule, a chronograph, be solar powered, have world time zones, multiple alarms, preferably titanium or aluminium, black leather or bracelet band. And within the ball park of $200-$1000, it'd have to be good to be more than $500, but even $1000 in the grand scheme of watches, really isn't that expensive (if you know what you're talking about, which I kind of do).

Any takers? Might be interesting to hear what you have now (please, don't say 'smart phone').

Hm... You might want to take a look on Casio's G-shock series. I can't tell you a direct watch, but I'm sure they've got what you're looking for. You could also try Skagen (Danish quality... but very high prices - at least in Denmark).

There's a thread all about watches here. I think it's in the general off topic stuff. You can view lots of watches since most people post pics. It's really tough telling people what watch they should get. A watch is a very personal taste kinda thing. I have a Seiko that's titanium with a really dark blue face. It's kinetic so every time you move it charges the battery. If you move a lot for 6 months it will keep the battery charged for another 6 months. Had it for roughly 8yrs and haven't replaced the battery. They told me I should get at least 20yrs before I have to.

My rotation consist of the following;

Victorinox Diver Master 500 Automatic (ETA 2892.A2)

Just got this watch for my Birthday, Friday. Love it to death. It's probably the most expensive watch I own at the moment. The movement is very accurate (no issues over the weekend), and it has held it's wind with minimal use, which is awesome.

The lume is super bright, and the bezel feels incredible on turn. I think it's 60 clicks around.

There's a review on ablogtowatch, with video.

Invicta Subaqua Noma IV (Quartz Movement)

Inexpensive, very heavy, and a looker. People always ask me what it is when I wear it. Very interesting diver.

I am aware of the controversy surrounding the brand. They have some ****** business practices. The one I own is one of the few "original" designs, as far as I am aware of. And it was one of my earlier purchases, so I'm not quite ready to part ways with it.

Parnis Panerai Homage 44MM Mechanical Movement

This was about $100. Panerai's are incredibly expensive, so this is cool to have. Parnis makes exceptional watches, and it's pretty much a clone.

GShock Crazy Bee (Red) GD-100B-4A (Quartz)

A gift from the lady, I grew up with GShocks. I think they have been around for 30 years or so now? Always a keeper. And a nice contrast to the others I wear.

My one day, when I'm rich watch is a URWERK UR-110, or the URWERK 210. These watches are the epitome of everything I want in a grail; limited, rare and exclusive, beautiful and unique complications, and expensive (these go for over $100K). One day.

urwerkur110.jpg

ahciimage3080158ixi.jpg

Another quarky, and unique watch is the HD3 Slyde. Picture a purpose built, supped up iPod Nano watch, and you have the Slyde. Beautiful casing, and the touchscreen applications are awesome.

In the more obtainable realm, I plan on getting a Tudor Pelagos soon. I love the look! It's like a modern interpretation of the Rolex Submariner. They go for a little less than half of what a Submariner costs, today. Doable, in time.

I want a Bremont SOLO, aswell. Beautiful and simple. Believe me, once you get your hands on one, you will understand why I would want one so bad. Some of the best aviator watches on the market right now, in my opinion.

Also on my list, are a few Welder watches, LUM-TEC has a nice one I want, a SEA-GULL (Asian Made mechanical watches that are indeed quite nice). I'm even trying to get my hands on one of those old Casio Databank/Calculator watches made famous by Back to the Future. I wish I never sold mine. :(

Basel World 2013 starts April 25th, May 2nd, so we will be seeing new watches everyday being revealed! Very exciting.

^ Those Urwerks  Not yet able to understand how to read them, but man they look pretty...

New one arrived to my collection today: Casio G-Shock GW3000BB-1A

The first thing I noticed is the 89-page instruction manual :scared: But thankfully, the watch was way easier to learn than expected, if you can remember what each of the 4 buttons do. It does have a lot of nifty features such as a 1/100 second stopwatch and a world-time feature.

The stopwatch feature and the construction means that this will be the one I'll wear exclusively for jogging from now on. Nonetheless, it looks good enough and will be in rotation with the Aviator for going out :)

And just for fun, here's the whole watch collection in this house! (minus mum's watches and the occasional old cheapos hanging around) :D

Left-Right: My old Broken Aviator World Time, my functioning Aviator World Time, the GW3000BB-1A, dad's Timberland Steprock, and dad's Aviator World Time.

Bonus shot of the lume: Aviators not really visible in the shot, and the G-Shock wins (until the Timberland lights up :sly:)

I'm eyeing the Citizen Skyhawk AT Eco-Drive as my next watch, I have an affinity for complex-looking watches

Weirdly, after being stuck on 'do I like JR3090-58L or JR3060-59E more?' I've finally moved into the 21st century.

Internal slide rule! It also has double the water resistance, sapphire crystal not mineral class, and it's made of 'Super Titanium' which is titanium which is ionised, by a fricken laser beam to 2000 degrees C!

The JY8020-52E, it's twice the price, but more than twice the watch.

Now I want to buy it, but PayPal are charging me 5% for the transaction, so I'm investigating setting up a way to buy other currencies more efficiently and send them overseas...

@ zedextreme8177 - Until I found the U680 calibre watch I'm looking at, I was obsessed with the U600 calibre (like that one), However, I was interested in the Titanium versions, either the Original, the Red Arrows or the Blue Angles (even though I had/have a Blue Angles watch, it had nicer push buttons imo, and it was less than $400 USD I could find? So the best price too, which made no sense). I was also interested in the Stainless Steel one that was Black and Red, with a Black Leather band with red stitching, and found I could buy the band by itself - AND, that band also fits the watch I'm now after, win win :D

3000 BB is an excellent watch. Wear it with proud. I always end up watching at it longer than I need to tell the time. It's just damn pretty 👍

Currently I'm wearing the Luminox ColorMark 3051 white. It's tough and feels very good in hand and it doesn't weight that much! And I have a nylon strap instead of the one pictured here.

A couple of months ago I bought an ICE Watch but I misplaced it. Boy silly me :ouch:

That is very close to the look I want in a watch right now.

I bought this Casio on Amazon for similar look:

IMG_2673_zps96c47ebf.jpg

Believe it or not, it is my daily wear. :D At $16 or whatever I paid for it, it is too cheap of a watch, but it's my favorite. :dopey: I never have to set the time(just calendar) either. Luminox is above my pay grade, my Casio's too cheap. I'll find a perfect watch eventually!

I at least want to get one more mid range watch ($500-$1500) out the way before the end of the year, and a few less expensive ones on the way in the $100-$200.

I got a really nice 24mm handmade leather strap from this seller the other day for my [Victorinox] Diver Master 500. I'll give a review on it once it arrives.

Random, but this story always cracks me up - http://jalopnik.com/5980884/the-funniest-story-youll-ever-hear-about-a-rolex?tag=Daytona-24

Here's some URWERK vids that help explain the complication and how it works ;)

And while we are at it, he's Ariel's review on my Dive Master 500

Looks very close indeed! I got my Luminox for MYR699 which is expensive, no doubt. I had a lot of selections from a couple of Swatches, G-Shocks and many more but seems to be interested with the Luminox. It's my daily now and so far I'm pretty satisfied with it. Heard people complaining about water vapour in the watch and a couple of water leak but I haven't had any of those yet. Some even say the Tritium thing doesn't really last that long... We'll see.

Tritium tends to be much brighter then traditional lume, but they do tend to fade over time (a few years, so nothing much to worry about).
