Someone in here probably knows the answer to this. I'm looking into some ICE Watches just as a present for some friends, and who knows I might get one for myself as well. It will feel nice to help out a brand that is sponsoring in Motorsports. I was wondering if the Miyota 2115 movement is battery powered or automatic?

Had some bad luck with my watches lately :indiff:

Been wearing a Diesel DZ4311 daily since March. Picture from some shop:

Damn thing broke in early December. Clockwork's faulty. The hands went all over the place every now and then and the date jumped ahead as well. Still under warranty, so I had to send it in. Not a very pleasant experience. My Fossil CH2599 went kaputt as well. Stops stops from time to time and one of the markings came off of the face. About two years old by now, so out of warranty. Lesson learnt: Don't buy watches from fashion companies. Cheapo stuff that commands a high price purely due to the company's name. Blargh.

Decided to get myself something a little more tough for Christmas. After thinking about what sort of watch to get, I learned that Casio has some G-Shock models that are (partially) analogue. Hat to get one. The GA-110-1AER. Actual image:

Looks great. Quite a big watch (my wrists aren't that big), but nowhere near as flashy as the Diesel. Lighter too. The rubber strap feels a lot better than I initially expected, too. Strikes the right balance between a rugged, intricate and geeky for me. And Amazon hat a great deal on them, 90 € instead of the usual 130 €. A steal, basically

I feel like a bumper. But @Mike Rotch wished me to post my latest acquisition. I wouldn`t call it an investment. It`s the well known CASIO F-91W and I did purchase it for nerdy reasons only.

The watch has the most basic functions of a digital timekeeper. Plus light.
Oh boy, I had one of those as a kid in the early 90s :D

My daily. I love watches with chains on them, but they're a bitch to clean. Yes, I still keep mine in its pillow.

Edit

I don't know what the hell I was focusing on in the second pic... but it'll do.

Yeah most of the fashion brand watches use really poor quality movements which aren't even the standard of basic well known watch brands... yeah they look nice but they have all sorts of problems and certainly don't command the frankly insane prices for some of them.

I also recently bought a G-Shock, the GA-100 series. Excellent Japan made movement and Casio know a thing or to about watch making ;)

Only annoying thing is the fogging issue which seems to be affecting all G Shock's over the past few years. Because they are cased in humid Thailand when you wear one inside a hot building then go out into freezing temperatures the whole face fog's up on the inside.

I once had to take an old watch of my grandfathers (can't remember name) to a local jewelry store to fix an issue with the hour hand (every time I would take it off at the airport to go through security it would act up and then a few hours later it would fix itself) and it too would fog. Now if it were for the same reason I'm not sure but after he opened it up I never had a problem...

I wonder if you do ask them to crack it and see if they can seal it again, especially where you are at, it may fix the issue..

Yes apparently you can fix the issue by opening the case, letting it 'acclimatise' / dehumidify and seal it back up and it should never happen again but you really shouldn't have to with a brand new watch. My old G-Shock has been opened twice..... in 20 years!

Thanks for the hint, I'll keep an eye on it. Winter seems to be very mild, this year, so there's a good chance I won't find out this year

After taking my watch swimming, thinking it would be fine, the inside of the face is wet and the battery presumably got wet, too, as the watch stopped. Looks like that passive looking has become more active looking now.

I've had recommended gasket replacement before. I wonder if this is why. You had this watch for long time, right?

Edit: While I'm at it, anybody familiar with Luminox watches? They advertise "Navy SEALS" & toughness, but I've also read reviews claiming that these watches let moisture in.

Hard luck @TB .

I may be wrong, but I believe their "Navy Seals" are a model line-up, rather than what Navy Seals actually use.

Seals aren't exactly going to be after watches with lume you can see a mile off - so probably some sort of G-Shock. Air, Sea and Rescue are issued with Marathon watches.

I ran into some Marathon reviews while looking into Luminox watches. I may still get a Luminox down the line, because I just like their design. I was tad concerned with their less than perfect reviews, but it'd be my casual watch anyway. I also see what you are saying in regards to what military actually wear. My "rugged" watch is a G-Shock Mudman, and G-Shock seem to be what lot of them prefer.

As always, thanks for the input Mike. 👍

You had this watch for long time, right?
It's only been in my possession for the last two years. It was my brother's watch my mom and dad brought back from Georgia after his funeral.

Does it make me a heartless bastard that it holds no sentimental value for me at all? :guilty:

While wearing his watch, I've taken quite a liking to the metal bracelet with blue face his had but the new one would add a chronograph, too. Something like these. Now to find a decent one at an acceptable price point...

Dang, I am sorry to hear about your brother man. I thought this was the Seiko watch you posted on here before. :guilty: In regards to the sentimental value, you can't hang onto everything someone own, so no, I don't think that's weird at all. I have two brothers. If I lost one of them, I think I'd tend to be attached more to old photos, or items from our childhood more than any items we currently own today.

On your Amazon search results, I see one Blue Angels watch, but they are expensive. I had one of those when they were still somewhat affordable, and it was one of the best watches I ever owned. I also see lot of Invictas, but you know what our watch thread moderator thinks of those. :P

Seiko Stainless Steel Solar Watch

I went shopping with my wife yesterday and found this watch at the mall for 25% off of $350 ($262.50). While I thought about if I wanted it or not, I did a search for it and found it on Amazon for $180.56. For $80 more, I couldn't justify buying it in the store. Should be here on, give or take, Tuesday.

That's one fine looking Seiko, @TB

Oh, and I'm very happy with the G-Shock. It's probably the most comfortable watch I've worn in years. Despite its size and rubber strap. Surprising, really. Didn't know that it's used by military forces, either

Same here with my G-Shock. Big, bulky, but very comfortable. My only beef is that I could only wear it with (very)casual clothing due to IMO, cartoony looks & size.

Congrats on the beautiful Seiko, @TB 👍
Are they pretty much sealed?

Agreed, G-Shocks aren't exactly watches that go well with a suit and tie. I do hope I'll get my darn Diesel back soon so I can wear that whenever I need to wear more formal clothing.

Got a Seiko SARB035 for Christmas today!

Here's a couple pics:

Another beautiful face without figures to spoil it.

A bit larger than my old Seiko and a LOT heavier. Liking it so far. I'll love it a lot more after I figure out how to remove a link or three!

Congrats TB. Enjoy. Why am I not jealous?

Maybe because you deserve it; I know you were after that for some time. :)

Now that's a looker! That blue face with the stainless steel makes for a timeless look, imho 👍

Makes me want to get my '06 Festina F16222/9 Tour Chrono refurbished... Thing's seen quite some abuse over the years and looks the part :indiff:

Any tool that gets the job done @TB, well a hammer and chisel would be a bit over the top.
Looks great though mate. 👍

I'm coming across conflicting information, so I'll ask you guys for a suggestion.

I have a squeak from somewhere in the bracelet. Looking for the best way to rid myself of it, some suggest soap and water, others mineral oil or dry teflon and yet others say it goes away on its own with normal wear.

Thoughts?
