Theory about Course Generator Restrictions

So... what does that have to do with whether or not we can have fully custom tracks?

Even with the cost of modelling, PD has supplied extra cars and tracks for free in the past.

In fact, the cost of paying modellers actually argues in favor of user-created content. Having a track-creation contest, with hundreds of budding modellers creating tracks, is cheaper than paying employees to create new tracks. Even if you give the top ten or top twenty free PS3s, it's a lot cheaper than paying salaries, researching tracks, taking GPS readings, dissecting hundreds of CAD files and taking thousands of photos...

And a contest like that would be good PR, to boot.
 
Not really Jedi. Simply reproducing the road layout is not the same as reproducing the real life track for the game.

You have to remmember that for it to be a representation of the real life track, it has to include the environment as well. Not just the road.

I honestly don't care about how bland the environments are in the "Computer pre-determined/Player adjusted course editor" but I heavily care about being able to design my own road layouts to all my pleasure and not the games extrememly limited and predetermined layouts.

I seriously hope they will improve this mode as it could become a huge player in the GT franchise.
 
Umm excuse me, when has PD ever made you pay for a new track? For a GT forum people seem to know very little about GT or it's past.
Kaz does not believe in making people "pay" for additional content, he loves cars not money.
Ever play prologue?, that was added to and updated all the time with no additional charge.

I woudln't be at all surprised if paid DLC came along, it was brought up here:

they have assured that new-fangled cars and courses will never be available via patches. "They may be added as expansion content," the series creator

I made a really mint track (I can almost guarantee it would be a top download if they hosted tracks for download) after a few hours of playing with the generator and I mostly play online so its a no go. They really need to get it to where you can send tracks to other people. Also, I would like an elevation change variable and a distance threshold that I can set.

If those three things were in I'd could do without GT6 though I'd still buy it.
 
I don't think any of the arguments regarding graphics or engine limitations really work because essentially these are the same people (read: SONY) that gave us Little Big Planet.

I mean I understand PD may have been weary of everyone sharing phalluses and this logically dictates why there is a maximum length...

I agree, the track editor could be a little more elaborated.

Nevertheless, it creates great tracks. What's the problem with blind corners?
In the real world roads there are blind corners. The reason you don't find them in most real word race track is because they are dangerous. But one of the advantage of "virtual reality" is that there is no danger: you don't die when you go off the road in GT5.

I was surprised to see that many Toscana tracks look like French countryroads I know. To race on these roads in real world would be suicidal. But you can
do it in GT5, without any danger.

Other issue: if you give complete freedom on track creation, you will get many versions of the same real-world track, of which no-one really looks like the real world one.

As I see the result of my random track-generations (Thread under construction, will be put on line soon), I must admit they are better than what I would have done myself, if I had complete freedom.

By the way: I have seen a post on this forum (can't find it now) in which is stated that PD thinks about giving us the possibility of playing on-line on our own tracks.
