There are some good guys out there.

The other day I took 2nd with a questionably dirty move but I had a quick self meeting and decided, that seeing as he didn't loose much out of the happenstance and I was on a solid run at 1st place man(who took 1st very dirt on lap 1) I'd see if I could justify my naughtiness by making 1st mess up.
This happened, ne the last few corners pressure payed off, 1st slipped heavy and both myself and 3rd slipped through, I then blew 3nd's(now 2nd's..?lol) mind by yielding the stolen position I had taken from him.
Felt good.

Had a great 10 lap race at Suzuka yesterday. I couldn't fully come to grips with my 911 RSR and never truly felt comfortable with my pace, making tiny mistakes everywhere, but I held my composure and was able to win through consistency. I slipped into 2nd after the first corner and hounded the lead car for two laps until he made a mistake. Then he came back for a clean fight with me before making another mistake and dropped off, but then the next guy in line took over and was steadily catching me over the course of the final 5-6 laps. Made for a really intense second half of the race with him catching me for the most part. At times I would keep static or gain a bit back but over the course of 5 laps he was catching me.

Both these guys were faster than me while I was ahead and put a lot of pressure on me, but they made moderate to major mistakes that lost them seconds whereas most importantly, I never made any major mistakes or anything that cost me more than 2-3 tenths and because of that I was able to hold on for the win. They also never tried anything stupid which I appreciated. It got pretty tense during the race and I was shaking by the end of it after holding it together, which was fantastic.

suzuka was fantastic last night. I was in involved in a p3 - 8 dogfight , bumper to bumper, door to door, incidental nudges, crash avoidance and restraint when needed. I was so satisfied with the p3 having started 12th and having 2 minor offs , I went to bed to end the night on a high note.

I just want to mention @Herrybo79, who tried to give me my place back at the end of a race at Maggiore - even though it was some other driver who bounced back on track in front of me at the last corner causing me to lose the position! 👍 I slowed as well so he kept the place, because I was simply unlucky that time. Looking forward to a rematch

Yes, because it was fair from the beginning.....and Maggiore its not my track, went down from a to c in the DRIVER Rating.....only in one day. Looking forward too...

I was very reluctant to enter a race on that track at first, struggling to be at all consistent. A few races after that one, I actually started to like it - maybe more than the forward version. Still so easy to mess up there, even if only getting a poor corner exit, but that makes it interesting at least!

I once fired down the inside of the first corner at Suzuka without being hit by my opponent. I hit the brakes as late as a dared and nearly paid for it, but someone I managed to keep on the track. This was actually during the open Beta.

I've definitely had more fun, clean online races in this title than any other online racer save for iRacing.

Also if you race vaguely the same time slot every night, you start to recognize driver nametags and car liveries and there's a respect between opponents that develops.

Of course there's a little bit of bumping and grinding, but it's nice having SR-S because you can drive cleanly but save one or two 'revenge moves' in your back pocket per race if you were wronged by someone earlier in the event.

I finally made it up to SR-S and it truly is a different world. I'm a DR-B and I got matched with the fast guys. Wow was that ever an awakening. But man, they are so clean. There is the bumping and banging here and there and unavoidable taps. But everyone is respectful and clean.

Saw you in your red Beetle (I believe) and you were racing cleanly on track. You deserve your S.

By the end of the first week after the game came out, I've managed to get my SR at S and DR at B and yeah I agree, the level of racing and sportsmanship is world apart. While there are still the occasional dive bombers and rammers, there are also some serious racing still going on. I've being in that mix for a little while now and it's been fun watching the replays of some of the much faster guys that I've raced with or against. Sometimes it's more entertaining and exciting than some F1 races!! :D

Watch my last few replays once the game is back online if you didn’t. They were epic races throughout the field. You know lol You were there with me!

I logged in soon as I got back home and was watching one of them and then the server went out for maintenance. There are some seriously fierce competition going on. I'm actually quite surprise people weren't wiping out left and right. Kept me on edge the whole time since it was all so close lol

Just saw your comment! I’m happy to say the game is back online

That was me, thanks I appreciate it. You guys are some great drivers. I remember starting near you a few times.

It really is. I was nervous the first race. I recognized the names when I entered. I thought this is crazy, these guys are way faster than me. I qualified 10th, but figured I would be 20th first lap lol. You do have to be consistent to hang with these guys. Man, they are so fun to race with.

Once you're SRS, it continues to get better as you go up the driver rankings.

There aren't enough AS drivers to get full grids yet, but I occasionally get a race with 4 or 5 at the front, and you can race as close and as hard as you want with zero concern about any deliberate contact... And at AS, car control is at a level that accidental contact almost never happens.

In the races last night, the As outnumbered the Bs. I want to say it was usually around 13 or 14 As. I'm starting to learn that I can race a lot harder with them. I know they won't intentionally hit me and I think they know I won't do it either. I can tell that the SR-S racers understand racing and understand accidents happen, we all make mistakes. Last night I was just focusing on keeping the pace and being safe lol. I didn't want to piss anyone off by making a mistake :D

Yes, some contact will happen occasionally, but the in going attitude at the higher levels is to avoid contact at all costs.

And the enjoyment comes from close and clean racing - winning isn't the main objective as, for the most part, there is less ego involved as drivers get faster... they know they are fast, and they aren't trying to prove anything.

I think a lot of the lower class issues are caused by people thinking they are much better than they are in reality!

When you get to A/S, you can start to analyze the other drivers’ driving style and anticipate their moves. I know some of their strengths and weaknesses. If I should back off a little to not get taken out by a mistake or stay bumper to bumper. It’s fun! I always miss these races when **** happens and my SR drops to A (or B - Stupid kart event). I especially like chatting with some of them after the race as a kind if post mortem. You get to know really nice people. I never played online before GTS and I won’t go back racing offline against AI.

Shamefully not with me yet, not usually major incidents but occasionally there is, part of the issue is that I'm likely just not as experienced in online racing (this is the first racing game I've got on the PS4, as I needed a new wheel too) as the other guys I'm getting matched with. I'm trying and getting better but when I'm too cautious I get hit from behind by people trying to pass where it's not really possible (or where it'll slow us both way down) and when I try not to be cautious I may end up bumping cars in front, I guess I've got to find that balance.

I think you nailed it on the head there. The only place I can remember much contact was the exit of the bus stop. We all know the car is on the edge there. You are right, people understand to back out of a pass and swerve to avoid contact. I can't say enough about how clean qwbufp and the rest of you all are.

Racing with these guys makes me truly enjoy this game.

It's unbelievable to watch them. Sometimes they truly look like F1, the way they follow eachother like a snake.

Thanks haha I do screw up sometimes. Yesterday, there were some messy races. If one driver misses a corner, 5-6 cars ended up bumper to bumper and there will inevitably be contact as there are blind corners at Dragon Trail. You may check up but the one following you has no time to react or no place to go. You just need to keep an eye on the radar.

Yes that's another thing, Dragon Trail is not the best suited track for clean racing as if you lose any momentum you get swamped by multiple cars and you just know someone will try a divebomb or end up in a position where it's tough to avoid the car/s in front.

I'll vouch for qwbufp as well. Definitely one of the good ones out there. Raced him a few times and it's always been clean.

Well we all screw up, as you saw I do  That 🤬 bust stop seems to get the best of people. I watch my radar like a hawk. Ive learned to glance at it everytime before you turn in.

I never saw any divebombs last night. People would let me recover if they couldn't get by me safely.

It seems to happen quite often on the EU servers, usually only a handful of players but enough to cause issues. Most likely don't intend to do it, it's just how it ends up when they are going quite a bit faster due to a car at the front of the queue holding everyone else up.

I had a good one with McNutty131 last night. A nice 1-2 battle for 10 laps. 3rd was no where to be seen. I was in 2nd for 99% of it but it was fun keeping up and getting a clean pass here and there. I did give him/her a little bump on the last corner on lap 9, in which i then slowed down so he/she could keep the lead and then sent a message afterwards about it. All in all didnt mind losing to him/her

In the first couple of days I had an act of sportsmanship backfire on me, I was leading at Kyoto but had 4 seconds of penalty due to going off the track. Despite my best efforts to pull out to a 4 second lead as I entered final straight I only had a 2.5 second lead, and I figured it was likely to be the guy in 2nd place's first win so decided to pull off the racing line and slow down to let him cross the line first. He crossed the line first and then I discovered he also had a penalty, I'd scrubbed 2 seconds off mine by slowing down but the 2 second penalty he had meant we finished with the same penalty in the order we crossed the line.

:guilty:

It was his first win at least.

I just did the Manufacturer Cup race at Interlagos just now, and check this out... EVERYBODY has Blue SR's!!! EVERYBODY!!!  👍👍

Just had to share this here!

Cheers

DR B and SR S makes for so many clean races. I have joined in ErickGtr's lobbies a few times and it is night and day with the quality of racing out of the top guys. Nothing feels better than getting those clean race bonuses as well. Been consistent with achieving them. Helps when you can grab that pole position though.
