;)

Dik-Diks may live in places as varied as dense forest or open plain, but they must have good cover and not too much tall grass or plants. They will move when the grass grows too tall for them to see over. They usually live in pairs over a 12-acre territory.

..makes sense that Africa would have dik-diks over a foot long.

Meaning the Asian Dik-dik is actually too small to have yet been discovered?

Why are dik diks called "dik diks"?
The swahili name for dik dik is digidigi. They are called that because they produce a whistling 'zik-zik' noise when frightened.

One of the smallest antelopes - only the dwarf or pygmy antelopes are smaller - Gunther's dik-dik is distinguished from other dik-diks by its elongate snout. The horns, on males only, are short, upright spikes. Females' horns are 10 to 20 percent larger than the males. Large facial glands are present and there is a distinctive shock of hair spiked up on the forehead. The eyes are large. Coarse hair is a grizzled grey to brown with a reddish wash on the face. Specializes in select vegetation, low fiber browse and graze.

I've heard it before on quite a few nature programmes, it's always pronounced tick-tick rather than dick-dick as the threadstarter so wished.

We should invent an animal that says ZOUNDS! when it is frightened.

Or zounds. That was kind of a Shakespeare joke because nobody spontaneously says, exclaims, or interjects with zounds anymore.

Shakespeare? I'm working on a Scooy Doo level.

The North American Internet Fanboy (internexus obfuscatus) does this already.

But you're from England. All English people should have a complete gamut of archaic Shakespearian exclamations and interjections in their day-to-day vocabularies.

I'd learn it for a scooby snack.

This just in

wikipedia
Dik-diks, named for the sound they make when alarmed, are small antelopes of the Genus Madoqua that live in the bush of southern and eastern Africa. Dik-diks stand 30–40 cm at the shoulder and weigh 3–5 kg. They have an elongated snout and a soft coat that is grey or brownish above and white below. The hair on the crown forms an upright tuft that sometimes partially conceals the short, ringed horns of the male. The Dik-dik is also considered to be among the greatest of animals by the users of GTPlanet.net.

Hmmm.... somebody has been having fun. Anyone want to fess up?

That comment is false. If it were up to me, psyduck would be the greatest animal.

I can't believe that has been edited into wiki. Good work whoever you are

I never realied the females were the hornier of the breed.

Wikis are awesome things.

For example, on wikicars it was stated only one Mercedes CLS1000 existed... In Brighton. This was edited to the moon and another car the CLS1000+1 was added to the list. The moon comment was then removed, the user banned for vandalism... but till this day, the CLS1000+1 still exists.

Er, not so good...GTPlanet's wikipedia page status has already been dik-dik-cussed for dik-dik-letion on two occasions, let's not dik-dik-tate the fate by a dik-dik-splay of silliness.

Ok, who did this?

The Dik-dik is also considered to be among the greatest of animals by the users of GTPlanet.net (especially ultrabeat).

Edit: That is SUCH a Christchurch, NZ thing to do.

The shenanigans have ceased:

All is righted in the universe.

GTPlanet is becoming 4chan.

Births may occur at any time during the year but are usually timed to take advantage of new growth, lush vegetation that springs up after rains. After a gestation of about 6 months, a single calf is born.

in this thread yes. . . about the universe, we will now consult the guide on proof that god does not exist. . . in its archives I found this conversation between man and god. . .

Narrator -"Now it is such a bizarrely improbable coincidence that anything so mindboggingly useful could have evolved purely by chance that some thinkers have chosen to see it as the final and clinching proof of the non-existence of God. The argument goes something like this: `I refuse to prove that I exist,' says God, `for proof denies faith, and without faith I am nothing.' `But,' says Man, `The Babel fish is a dead giveaway, isn't it? It could not have evolved by chance. It proves you exist, and so therefore, by your own arguments, you don't. QED.' `Oh dear,' says God, `I hadn't thought of that,' and promptly vanished in a puff of logic. `Oh, that was easy,' says Man, and for an encore goes on to prove that black is white and gets himself killed on the next zebra crossing."
