So, they didn't improve it when they moved onto the PS2 with upteen times more power than the PS1, I don't see a single reason why I should believe PD if they say GT5 will have better AI, and they will say that. But I'll only believe it when I see it in this case.
Okay...so I lied before...you guy's know I can't stay away from debate...
Try also to understand, that while AI improvement is needed, it's not exactly an easy task to undertake, especially when you are working with underpowered hardware.
While I'll agree that there was no jump from PS1 to PS2 in terms of the AI, they did in fact rework it, as much as they could, while still maintaining that level of excellence with new visuals on new hardware.
The fact is, if you compare the AI to games such as LFS etc, you are not being fair, because they are in fact in a completely different category. They have MUCH more powerful processors than both PS1 or PS2 had, so naturally they were able to do much more, same goes for Xbox.
So while you didn't notice any changes, there were some. Especially in the dept. of tire wear/ pit relationship of the AI, as well as the driving ability of the AI under poor tire conditions. If you watch your Bspec-Driver (which is essentially the games AI) when the tires are wearing, you will notice that the lap times become slower, because the driver is in turn being more cautious, and it effects his lap times.
So, while there are still flaw's in the system, it is improved over that of GT1, GT2, and barely any difference between GT3.
Now, given the MUCH more powerful jump from PS2 to PS3 than there was from PS1 to PS2...we can *hopefully* expect better AI.
