They fixed the clutch!

I like my pedals on a slant, yes.. It is easier to push them forward, instead of down, but that also depends on your seating position. If you are up in an office chair or something, pushing pedals down might be better. In my sim-rig, I am in a low seat, so I like pressing forward. I could even have my pedals hanging with a $50 adapter (CSR Elite pedals), but I like it the way it is.

I recently received the Fanatec CSS to go with my CSP v2. These are as fine a set of sim pedals and shifter as is available. They are very well constructed and basically feel like equipment in a real car.

I have been making a real effort to incorporate H shifting into my GT6 play. I realize that H Shifting is never going to be as fast as paddle shifting in high end cars. That's why F1 cars employee paddle shifters. I however like to be able to utilize H shifting in road cars and lower powered race cars.

I have been using manual shifting IRL since the first car I purchased (1965 MGB roadster) to the last car I purchased (2008 Porsche 911 Turbo) and many of the cars in between. I am not an amateur at manually shifting an automobile.

I have been running Arcade time trials in a Miata Roadster on Bathhurst using the H shifter to develop my skill. The truth is that the clutch model in GT6 sucks. I don't know if it is better than it used to be but it certainly isn't acceptable. I have spent hours driving and I still have blown shifts. Down shifting is very temperamental and I often get neutral or the wrong gear. I end up avoiding make shifts to avoid mistakes when I know I could produce faster times if I could make shifts with confidence.

I also have Forza 4 so I tried the shifter and clutch on FM4 using the Miata Roadster. It worked great and I had no problems shifting. I don't like the driving physics in FM4 as much as GT5/6 so I won't play FM4 simply to have reliable H shifting.

I will continue to work with the H shifter and clutch but I am very disappointed. The clutch and H shifter models being used on GT6 need more work because they simply aren't acceptable as they are now.

Has anyone noticed your car popping out of gear when it's getting some lateral g-forces? I'll be fine downshifting going into a turn. Once I'm getting out of turn, I sometimes notice I'm neutral. I'm using a Fanatec CSR with a CSR H-shifter. I wonder if I can plug in my TH8RS directly into the PS3 with the CSR...

I was reading another thread associated with the clutch/shifter in GT6. Someone commented that they "couldn't throw a bad shift with the BMW M4". I gave it a try and the shifting is perfect on the M4. This suggests that PD is fixing the clutch/shifting model but that it is done on a car by car basis not with a model they apply to all cars.

Try out the M4 and see what you experience.

I stand corrected. The transmission on the BMW M4 works as a gated box and the clutch doesn't function at all.

PD really needs get the clutch/shifter module fixed.

Do i need to construct some kind of ramp or slope, for the pedals to sit on, that allow my foot to push forward, to descend the clutch, instead of forward AND down, as it is now ?

This is not ridiculous, and there is nothing wrong with your technique. Your only mistake was waiting and dealing with this issue for so long when you know it didn't feel right upon your first try. You definitely need to build a strong, stable base to lift the far side of that pedal housing. Mine sits at around a 30 degree angle, instead of flat. It's a must if you have a strong, modified brake pedal.

Many players also switch the wiring/springs/pads around and flip the whole thing upside-down in order to simulate most real pedals even more accurately, but just raising the angle will do the job very well.

The BMW M4 in GT6 has the DCT, not the manual.

After inspired by this thread started to "learn" manual shifting in GT6, find my favourites for that job: F40, Stratos and Yellow Bird.
All without any aids online set to real as can and tyre wear normal. All cars on stock, even brake bias.

What a fun, mis shifts happens more and more less, maybe one or two per lap of Nordschleife. The Chase on Bathurst is favorite mis shifting place :)

sounds ridiculous i know but....

is the problem i am having, with missing gears ( going to neutral ) because of the angle of my pedals ?

Don't know if its relevant to your situation...
...but I have found that GT5/GT6 clutch is happiest when completely depressed while shifting gears.
I use a T500 with TH8RS, my pedals are inclined in GT type position.

And yes that is an oversize brake pedal, does wonders for heel-toe.
Its a Big Brake Pedal by GTP's OwensRacing.

Thanks for the help everyone. Sorry, yes, i do have my brake modded, but this one, rather than the Nixim, as i didn't know about that one when i modded the pedal. ( https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/threads/the-must-have-upgrade-for-any-logitech-g25-g27-owner.279149/https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/threads/the-must-have-upgrade-for-any-logitech-g25-g27-owner.279149/ ) GTEye mod.

I also took the stock brake spring and put it into the clutch too, just to have a little more pressure on my clutch pedal.

This weekend i will construct something, as you guys suggest, at least to use as an option until i save up enough money for a stand/rig of some kind in the next few weeks.

Thanks again !

Yes, securing your pedals to something solid will really help.
I used a junkyard car seat and a wheelstand for a couple of years before I built my rig...
...before that an AK Rocker with an IKEA stand.
You may want to check the GTP hardware section's CHEAP Cockpit Alternatives ONLY thread for ideas.

Here's my vid compliation. Forgive the upright video. I hate holding an iPhone upwards and snapping a video, but it's the only way I could snap a quick video with three pedals. As you can see it's still a bit of a struggle, BUT the new 1.02 patch modified the clutch greatly, and I am very happy!

Shoot your video horizontally, not vertically, its less visible.

Remember: it's an option for disabling the throttle check when selecting gears that we want. That should be easy, because the behaviour was added in a patch to GT5 Prologue.

The weird "works one way but not the other" clutch axis response would be better off more consistent, but that might need a drivetrain physics overhaul (it's always been weird). Other than that the clutch itself isn't that bad, if you can get used to the "low" disengagement point.

I shift with the clutch all the way to the floor in my real car, so that part isn't even an issue for me. It is the fact that you have to just about completely remove your foot from the throttle.. That is ridiculous, as is the need for full clutch engagement actually.. But anyway..

More of the same from PD. Ignoring issues seemingly easy to fix. nothing new here. We could have the same conversation after every single update until we die of old age.
