Thinking Of Getting An XBox and Forza, Need Some Imput

Anywho, as I'm just setting it up, and can't seem to find a solid answer online - I've no wireless adapter yet (and can't do a direct plug-in), so if I want to start playing with an offline account now, can I keep the name of it when I "upgrade" it with my apparent 1-month trial of Gold? Or does the trial only apply to a completely new profile? Just curious so I know if I'm wasting my progress or not :P

If this is what you are talking about...

You can make an OFFLINE profile with any name you want. Since it's just a profile name, and has nothing to do with being online, you can pick any name.

However, if you end up going to Xbox Live Silver or Gold at some point, that name will most likely be taken. So what will happen is, it will prompt you to choose a new name that hasn't been taken, but all your stuff will carry over into the account.

Basically, I'm wondering if the account I create now (to play for the next few days) will still be eligible for that when I sign up for XBL, or if that signing-up requires a "fresh" account :)

The one you make now will be eligible as it would be a new XBL account when you upgrade it.

Awesome, thanks you guys. Now, to get collecting any of those special cars for the next week and a bit  .

Send me a request on XBL when you get it set up and I can send you the ones that I can (even if you don't have the DLC you can have the cars in your garage as long as you have the free car, you can't drive them though).

Getting a xbox 360 and fm4 and not play online is waste of time and money. The future is in online gaming, thats how i see it. Online is where the real fun starts, much more real life like.

Will do

Was told the adapter's $100 from the guy at GS (again, as a tactic to get me into a newer system), but I'll either buy a cheap one elsewhere, or just get a longer cable :sly:.

Also send me a Friend Request when you do get it set up. I'll send you some cars as well.

Hrm, yet more issues:

Bought an official Microsoft Wireless Adapter (the older white one), plugged it in, but I'm missing a fairly important option in my menu: Wireless Mode. I go to Configure Network, and there's the usual two tabs (Basic Settings and Additional Settings), but there is no option even showing Wireless Mode, nevermind a grayed out non-selectable option. Not sure what the issue is since every other device here can scan and find my network; PSP, PS3, this PC...

Ehe, why do you even want wireless adapter in the first place? Wired connection is always better for performance...

I wouldn't be surprised to learn over 80% of those who buy Forza 4 will hardly ever play online. Online racing has both it's advantages and disadvantages but if someone is serious about online racing than PC is probably a better choice than console.

Because of my new found love of cars after getting GT5 last Fall, and because I don't see GT6 coming out soon, I am considering getting an XBOX 360 and Forza 3 and 4 when it comes out. I was going to get the Madcatz XBOX wheel. I currently use paddles for pedals and would like to do that with Forza and this wheel. Is that possible? I am not a super hardcore racer, so I use AT. And if I am not going to race online, do I still need to get an XBOX Gold account for DLC or updates? Thanks guys!

I would use regular controller instead of that wheel. Forza 3 felt great with the the pad. Problem for me using any wheel with forza 3 was steering assists and unrealistic grip on tyres. But pad racing was great and AI was good.

I seem to remember a customer of mine had a similar problem and it was down to the xbox not being fully updated. I think their adapter came with the required update on CD, but if you can move it over to the router temporarily you can update it by cable.

Don’t really rate wireless for gaming though… have you thought about a powerline adapter kit?

On a side note I also just got an xbox for fm4 :)

what i hate about xbox or forza as a whole is that they like to milk money from their gamers. i would not be a surprise if forza already has 5 dlc sections INSIDE THE DISC. dlc is another way to milk money of you and xbox exclusives are very good at that. i mean you can even buy rare forza cars with REAL MONEY LOL. ITS JUST THEY ARE FFFFFFING GREEDY. personally, i would not buy it, unless they change their way of making games/money, coz thats all they see is MONEY MONEY MONEY

I'll have to agree/disagree. I think the Call Of Duty/Modern Warfare method is definitely a money grab with DLC. Personally though, and I can't believe I'm about to side with Microsoft *shivers* but Forza is NOT a money grab. I bought absolutely no DLC but the GP track with FM3 and had the best time of my gaming life with FM3. There are PLENTY of cars in the game to keep you satisfied. But if you must have the extra rides then that's your option to buy them. As far as buying rare cars with Real Money from my understanding you can EARN those same cars in the game with hard work. It's entirely up to you. I think they are doing their DLC / LCE / $$$ Cars just right this time around.

I'm gonna go ahead and borrow this thread instead of opening up a new one.
My gf has got an xbox 360 arcade, and as I understand it, It has no hdd, and I need to buy an xbox specific one if it's going to be compatible with game material. Correct?

So I'm probably going to need an xbox hdd, after I've gotten that, will there be any difference in performance of Forza 4, since the arcade version of the xbox is the budget one?

I live in europe, if I need the xbox hdd, is amazon.uk the cheapest place to get one? Will this be enough for the disc 2 content?

The only difference between the Arcade and normal 360 is the harddrive so there will be no performance issues(unless the game has issues running on an older 360, which is a different issue altogether).

20GB should also be more than enough for the install.

You could just get a compatible USB thumb drive also. Some games look for the harddrive for replays so you may have an issue there but I think the newer games will use the USB drive just like a harddrive.

Sounds good! I will probably only use my 360 for Forza, how big of a USB drive do I need?

Well, the xbox only recognizes up to 16GB through a USB thumb drive. So 16GB is it. lol
I got one dirt and I mean DIRT cheap at Radio Shack on sale. Probably wasn't a hot seller because it didn't have the ubber-cool color/look like the others. Others ignorance is my benefit.

You can probably find double the storage for only a few bucks/pounds or whatever more. Just wont have the "hot" xbox logo on it.

I'm just concerned about the other brands not being compatible.. Will look around and see what I can find. Thanks

If you buy local I'm sure you can always take it back. I'm also pretty sure that most of them will work. You're probably better off looking for a list of drives that DON'T work as I'm sure the vast majority do.

Got a bunch of USB-memories lying around the house somewhere, will try those, or my WD 120 GB
