This is what Obamacare is going to do to our lives

What was done in Massachusetts = / = Obamacare.
It's a similar system which Obamacare was based on. The core idea of requiring insurance and providing it to those who can't afford it is the same with both systems.

But of course you know that party affiliation has little to do with the pervasiveness of bad ideas in government, especially today.

ugh... who cares if it was the democrapublicans or the republicrats who did it first in the US?

I think it's more interesting that the administration is now trying to blame and force insurance companies in order to bail out obamacare. Insurance companies dropped coverage for policies that didn't meet the obamacare requirements, people were told to sign up through obamacare because their policy no longer existed, they couldn't sign up because government, now they face no insurance. Obamacare FTW!

The response? Let's force insurance companies to offer those policies that they cancelled so that nobody loses their coverage. We can do that right? No? Consti-what?

That is the attitude that has us in this sinking boat in the first place.

Obamacare passed on Christmas eve late in the evening with a simple majority in the senate without a single Republican vote.

If fewer Republicans and Libertarians had been morons during the last presidential election, this long nightmare would be over by now.

The two sides ARE NOT the same. the sooner the people realize that, the better off this entire nation will be.

The U.S. government has just passed a new law called: "The affordable boat act" declaring that every citizen MUST purchase a new boat, by April 2014.

These "affordable" boats will cost an average of $54,000-$155,000 each. This does not include taxes, trailers, towing fees, licensing and registration fees, fuel, docking and storage fees, maintenance or repair costs.

This law has been passed, because until now, typically only wealthy and financially responsible people have been able to purchase boats. This new laws ensures that every American can now have an "affordable" boat of their own, because everyone is "entitled" to a new boat. If you purchase your boat before the end of the year, you will receive 4 "free" life jackets, not including monthly usage fees.

In order to make sure everyone purchases an affordable boat, the costs of owning a boat will increase on average of 250-400% per year. This way, wealthy people will pay more for something that other people don't want or can't afford to maintain. But to be fair, people who can’t afford to maintain their boat will be regularly fined and children (under the age of 26) can use their parents' boats to party on until they turn 27; then must purchase their own boat.

If you already have a boat, you can keep yours (just kidding; no you can’t). If you don't want or don't need a boat, you are required to buy one anyhow. If you refuse to buy one or can’t afford one, you will be regularly fined $800 until you purchase one or face imprisonment.

Failure to use the boat will also result in fines. People living in the desert; ghettos; inner cities or areas with no access to lakes are not exempt. Age, motion sickness, experience, knowledge nor lack of desire are acceptable excuses for not using your boat.

A government review board (that doesn't know the difference between the port, starboard or stern sides of a boat) will decide everything, including; when, where, how often and for what purposes you can use your boat along with how many people can ride your boat and determine if one is too old or healthy enough to be able to use their boat. They will also decide if your boat has out lived its usefulness or if you must purchase specific accessories,(like a $500 compass) or a newer and more expensive boat. Those that can afford yachts will be required to do so...it’s only fair. The government will also decide the name for each boat. Failure to comply with these rules will result in fines and possible imprisonment.

Government officials are exempt from this new law. If they want a boat, they and their families can obtain boats free, at the expense of tax payers. Unions, bankers and mega companies with large political affiliations ($$$) are also exempt.

I was going to order one Today, but the website was down, I’m sure they will fix it, I will try again tomorrow!!!!

So we should elect the people who were acting like morons during the election? :D

In the end, it's a sticky situation... the structure of the Republican party is such that someone who can realistically win an election and enforce fiscal change will never become a candidate. And in its current form, it's too fractured and unfocused to prevent the Democrats from winning the next one.

The Tea Party might have some of the right ideas, but the methods stink. See... if they had just waited for Obamacare to blow up in the President's face, they'd be in prime position for the next elections. As it is, they've wasted their political capital without achieving anything, and are no longer in a position to say "I told you so" without people muttering about the Federal Shutdown.

I'd take dull Romney in a station wagon with a dog strapped on top, and boxes of binders filled with women in the back, over the stupidly acting boob we got now, any day of the week.

No, they really are. The prescription drug benefit Bush passed and the obamacare that Romney passed are decent proof of that. Please explain to me the differences between the two parties, because I don't see it.

No it wasn't. The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act was not proposed by Republicans.

Oh yes it was, and I'm not talking about Mitt Romney.

The concept of the individual health insurance mandate is considered to have originated in 1989 at the conservative Heritage Foundation. In 1993, Republicans twice introduced health care bills that contained an individual health insurance mandate. Advocates for those bills included prominent Republicans who today oppose the mandate including Orrin Hatch (R-UT), Charles Grassley (R-IA), Robert Bennett (R-UT), and Christopher Bond (R-MO).

Not the same thing. Either way, it's a bad idea. Government has no business telling people they have to buy something.

I don't think we have much to worry about either. Obamacare is falling apart as we speak.

I sure don't want the government deciding who does and does not get health coverage either. It's a quick road to ridding oneself of their political opponents.

Yes it is, lol.

Either way, it's a bad idea.

Why?

Government has no business telling people they have to buy something.

Yes they do.

Elaborate with sources, please.

I sure don't want the government deciding who does and does not get health coverage either.

The government doesn't do that, but insurance companies used to be able to until this law was passed.

It's a quick road to ridding oneself of their political opponents.

Oh, man. The tin-foil-hat brigade has arrived.

I don’t know anything about Romneycare, I don’t need to as I am a Texan. This country is supposed to be a republic. The people of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts elected their legislature, they should be able to run their state any way they want.

I don’t think Obamacare was designed to fix healthcare at all anyway. It was designed to further divide the country into classes. Now we will have the 25 hour per week class.

Don’t worry though the Democrats will feel their pain and be there to help them. :yuck:

Look around you Villain. The law is failing. People are beginning to realize that this is anything but affordable.

Abolish all welfare systems! I partially agree, but it would never work.

Welfare shouldn't even exist. It never existed when my grandparents arrived in this country yet they were able to come ahead and make something out of themselves.

If I work, the money I earn working should go into my pocket.

Noone mentioned the 10,000 $ deductible yet.
So wha used to be a 500-1000 $ deductible for almost all workplace insurance plans, can now be replaced wth the 10,000 $ one. And your average 5-20 $ medications copay can now be 10% of the medications cost instead. (Most heart meds for example, cost between 150-500 $ , which would translate to a new copay of 15-50 $ instead of the 20 $ max.)

A broken leg for example, would on most old company plans, be 50 $ emergency room fee, a deductible of 500-1000 $ , and usually a 20 $ copay for each physical therapy visit. However, most bills can run up and over the 5k range. So thank God for insurance.
Unless you have obamacare, in which case, your eating that whole 5k bill, as its under the 10k yearly deductable. Regardless if you need to pay for heat/housing/food for your family, that 5k pretty much killed that, not to mention your kids birthdays, Xmas, or any kind of rainy-day event for your family.
But its ok, the flip side of obamacare, is that the projected thought of the number of people who will be forced to declare bankruptcy down the road because of this is thought to triple if not more, the amount normally, per year.

How very Christian of you.

You'd think that this recession would help people realise that some people are unemployed through no fault of their own and therefore shouldn't find themselves begging on the streets, but I guess I'm wrong.
