Which wheel gave you the best lap times in GT5p and why?
Also please list which wheels you are comparing it to.

I'm curious about Fanatec owners able to adjust steering ratio and the drift mode. Have any of you compared this to a Logitech wheel? Can you get faster lap times with this? I hear being belt driven feels more realistic but doesn't feel as locked down and precise as gear driven wheels.
How does the belt drive perform vs gears it terms of lap times? Every review I read people only give pro's and con's list comparing the FFB, the options they have and what they look like. But no one compares lap times.

I know this wont be the same for everyone because of different driving styles etc. But for you, what wheel are you fastest with?
You could also list how strong your FFB was set to. That might give some insight to your driving style.

I've owned both the DFP and G25. G25 allowed for btter lap times with it's smoother FFB.
DFP FFB set to mild. G25 FFB set to 3.

If you are interested just about the "best lap times" as an DFGT and a GT3 RS V2 CS owner, I can assure you that they perform the same well! Nothing so special on the Porsche wheel, except maby the regulation of the rotation degres, that could give you big advantage on gaining time...

But if you are interested also in style and detailed adjustments maybe you should go for a more expensive wheel than the DFGT...

Yes i'm only interested in faster lap times. i'm actually trying to decide between the two wheels you have. but i'll be waiting until GT5 comes out to see if you can adjust the steering ratios of the logitech wheels in game first. If you can't i'll probably get the GT3 RS V2. A quicker steering ratio should give better lap times in most situations. I was just concerned about the belt driven vs gear thing. I like how solid and precise the gear driven g25 feels. Belt driven may be more realistic but i only care about faster lap times. Seems like fanatec wheels are a little slower/harder to drive because their belt driven and to a lesser degree the larger wheel diameter

If you are looking for a good gear driven wheel, look at the Fanatec Porsche Carrera wheel, it is pretty cheap (£155 I got it for) it is gear driven has 6 speed, clutch and the adjustable steering angles.

P.S. I'm not advertising this but I think that it is the best wheel on the market currently, it is affordable, has clutch and 6 speed included and same adjustment as GT3RSV2.

Thanks guys, that was the first review i seen with lap times. checking out the insidesimracing stuff too. I only play GT, i think it boils down to how each game supports each wheel. This can change over time with updates etc. Like how the G25's performance changed between updates in GT5p. Since GT5 isn't even out yet, any comparison is good to see. Seems like there isn't the big difference i was expecting. I thought since they used completely different drive systems one would lag behind the other. Figured since the fanatec felt more realistic it would be harder to lap with.

I noticed you can use the g25's pedal's with the GT3 RS V2. Is that for PC only or can that be done in GT too? Anyone know/tried this out?

If you've got a G25 then yes, you can buy the Fanatec-Logitech pedal adapter, but if you haven't, go with the Clubsports, they are a great set of pedals.

Laptimes between Logitech G25/G27 vs Fantec RS V2/Turbo S wil give you very similar differences.

Both these wheels outperform the DFP and DFGT since they are smoother.

The differnace between Fanatec and high end Logitech wheels is how much smoother Fanatec is, maybe bit stronger feedback as well. They will not improve laptimes like stated in reviews because the driver can make a minor mistake to slow down a car by.10 of a second and thinking its the wheels or not. But if you compare G25/27 Fanatec RS V2/Turbo S are much faster over the lower end wheels.

For me I have GT3 RS V1 wheel (just bought V2 and waiting for delivery) with Clubsport Pedals and H shifter.Logitech G25 and old DFP Wheel.

For me, I prefer the Fanatec because it feel much more real over G25. V2 GT3 RS will give me full compatibility with the PS3 and more adjustments with Clubsport peddals.
Yeah the Clubsport peddals are best pedals for the money, nothing compares! and that H shifter is bit better over G25 finger push mehh feel.

So here is my chart
Good times, Fast times
DFP
DFP GT
Fanatec Carrera

Even Faster times
Logitech G25
Logitech G27
Fanatec Turbo S
Fanatec RS V2

In GT5 Prologue I have beated my lap times with RS wheel over my G25, but I think its becasue I have learn even more how to use a proper race line, not because of the wheels. But I do say that DFP wheel is slower then the G25 and Fanatec wheels I have because of its very slow counter steer.
If you are looking for a low end Wheel, I agree with UK Gamer to get the Fanatec Carrera wheel. Much better over DFP and DF GT wheels. And it compares to G25/G27 for fraction of the price.

Or get the Fanatec RS V2 or Turbo S over G25/27, RS V2 if you only to intend to play on PS3 and PC. Its best bang for the money currently, even with Clubsport pedals.
The cost of the RS V2 with Clubsport Pedals and H Shifter will cost you 372 dollars with a extension cable for shifter.
Its 72 dollars more expensive over G27, but its twice the wheel because of the settings you can do on the fly and 10 times better Customizable Pedals.

I am not here to advertise Fanatec, but I think everyone would agree for bit more money, its a better wheel. Even Sim Racing Tonight said GT3 RS was best wheel out of the bunch.

PS. Forgot to mention V2 RS wheel you can turn off that BACK and FORTH motion that G25 has in GT5 Prologue at high speed and on straight.

Thanks for your input NoxNoctis Umbra. Some good points in there. Not everyday the more expensive item is the better bang 4 your buck. But it does seem like the case with the fanatec wheels and all the adjustably.
I've tried the dfgt before and would have to disagree about lumping it in with the dfp though. dfgt is leagues ahead of the dfp, the wheel. Pedals, your right, they are the same. But the dfgt was smoother in gt5p than my g25. Bit less FFB though. This is why i felt like going to it for gt5.

Thanks UK-Gamer, i'll probably get the GT3 RS V2 and use my g25 pedal set for now. That wheel seems like great value for the money since I don't need to buy new pedal's yet. I can also test the belt drive system for myself. Maybe down the road i'll get those pedal's you and NoxNoctis mention. They look good.

Oh yeah, has anyone tried the GT3 RS V2 with the G25 pedal set? Was there any input lag because of the adapter?

The adapter should not course any lag. its only another cable you attach to it.

ANd yeah its only 180 bucks for the V2 RS, and if you will use the G25 pedals you will be good. The Clubsport pedals wont improve your lap times, but the ABS vibration is cool, as well that you can customize them a bit, and has bit more real car feel to them, the brake especially. But yeah, they wont make you faster. Buy them when you get bored with G25 pedals, or if you want your rig to look so much cooler.

Im not sure in buying a quality wheel will make much improvement in general to a persons average laptimes. Maybe a tenth or two but its all subjective depending on the game played and the persons ability or how that person feels playing each wheel compared.

The reasons to buy a quality wheel are for the build quality, its features and benifits those features give you.
Only the Fanatec wheels give you the options to personalise the feel of the wheel to your taste. Thats quite a big benifit for some. Not only that but save several setups and change between each easily. The features of the new firmware just make these wheels stand out even more over G27 and other inferior budget wheels.

GT3RS V2 is comfier in the hand to hold than the Turbo S but then you loose dual console compatibility and the illiminated lights.

I'm a top driver. That 1 or 2 tenths of a second is what i'm looking for. If a wheel was made of wood but gave better lap times i'd still buy it.

I think RS V2 is the best buy for him, he mentioned he only plays GT as well he owned DFP and G25.

Also, G25 to G27 is small update, G25 to Fanatec is like night and day.

This is a false statement... The load cell brake will make you faster (very slightly) but faster. They are more accurate and gradual than the g25/27 pedals and will help to improve lap times, this is both mine and others I know opinion on the topic.

I had g25 for 4 years , after it broke i bought a porsche 911 turbo S.

I think the g25 is really good , but i love the feature that you can adjust things on ps3 and xbox like rotation , force feedback , and so on , with the 911 turbo s.

And force feedback is alot more powerfull on the 911 as well.. I did really love my g25 , but now i think the turbo s is much more fun and alot better wheel
