Why hello there everyone. :D

I've been keeping my eye on this thread for a while, and it's great to see that Dark Elite has popped his head back in. Personally I'd love to see the existing leaderboard continue, especially if it was brought up to date with the new records.

I did actually ask DE if I could run a similar leaderboard for GT PSP, before the game was released and we found out that no high speed test was available. When GT5 finally drops you can be sure that'll be chasing 300mph once more.

I won't have any speeds to report for a while. I'm working abroad at the moment with only my PSP for company, but even back in the UK I now have a PS3 which unfortunately doesn't have backwards compatibility. I do still have my PS2, but it's not at my main UK residence.

Instead, I'll be here giving out helpful advice as always, and keeping my fingers crossed that none of you get too close to my records, especially the Tommy Kaira one...

Hehe, I thought I'd get you with that one, T ;)

Good to see you've still got an eye on us, MS, and since you're so stuck for putting up new speeds, someone else might get a look in with a record :D

Anyway - to our two latest members, congratulations, and we look forward to seeing huge improvements from the both of you! So, for the first time in very nearly sixteen months..

Leaderboard Updated

Man, it is a while since I typed that, so long I felt the need for a new bit of trivia at the bottom of the page!

Good to see you're back DE. 👍 I'm in agreement with MS in that the current leaderboard should continue and that you pop your head back in here a little bit more regularly. ;)

Oh yeah, i'm 4th in the Lotus Esprit V8 list. Now where's that extra 3mph gone? :)

Made a small improvement upto 307.81 mph but the cameras on the blink so cant post it up. Anyway I want to make a bigger increase than that first!

Hey, mafia_boy, good to see you're still around! Stick my head in more often than once every year or so, you mean? ;)

The Esprit, as I remember, is a pretty linear car - you get small increases with small developments, but there's no eureka moment where you suddenly end up going 20mph faster, like with some of the 4WD road cars. So any small improvements are good! 👍

It's interesting how few people use the 88C-V these days, so let's see what you can get out of it..

Sam

I'm up to 307.88 now, cameras still not playing ball tho. Not gonna try to post up until i've got the third fastest time :dopey:

Edit
Here we go, 309.58mph:

It seems that having the front end really high makes all the difference, but does anyone know why? Doesn't this make the car less aerodynamic? Anyway, now just 0.02mph off 3rd fastest Esprit V8 :)

Nice job with the Esprit, ABud. It seems like you're doing a very good job of learning the car! Generally, putting the front end of the car up high is the faster option. There are exceptions ;)

Now, to business. :D

Sorry DE, I couldn't resist... it's good to see you around again 👍

Cheers mcsqueegy 👍 Didn't have such a succesfull day yesterday, not managing to better that speed. Great effort with yours though, thats a lot of cars to do together!

Nissan Skyline GT-R Vspec II Nur '02: 300.13mph, no cheats just way to much of my time. Hours just lapping and changing oil and tuning the tranny. had to refresh the chassis twice

Nice speed (I believe the highest speed reached with this car is 314.31 mph). 👍 Do you have a picture of that run?

EDIT: The highest speed reached with this car so far is 346.49 mph.

Actually, the record for that car is 346.49mph, held by MasterStorm ;)

A few new speeds, nothing special...

Cadillac CIEN: 314.67mph (surprisingly easy to do)
Panoz Esperante GTR-1: 313.08mph (legit, but pretty close)
Dodge Viper SRT10: 300.82mph (Once I get a new one, I'm aiming for 301)
Mercedes Sauber C9: 342.73mph

Just in case anybody's looking, really :D

Nice work, Macca.. Talk about making a deal of your return to posting speeds! Are there any other records you fancy? :P

Nice work with the CIEN as well, actually, that one seemed to give a lot of people trouble long ago. I think I know someone who might be unhappy with you aiming for the Viper, though.. ;)

Hi there, Spawn13 - nice to see someone starting with a GT-R! Have you got a photo of your speed to get it on the Leaderboard?

Keep 'em coming, guys..

Leaderboard Updated

Haha, Sam! Nice little tidbit at the end of the leaderboard. It's good to see this monster still afloat after all this time. 👍 I wish I had more to contribute, but I lack a PS2, for I sold all my gear, save my psp, for a plane ticket to Cyprus-where I'm currently located. I have a feeling, however, once GT5 is out that I'll be contributing once more to a 300mph thread of some sort (once I get another PS3 :ouch:) I love me some ridiculous speed. :D

Thanks for keepin it alive, brother.

Hey there, Crimson! Yeah, I thought I'd better put something up to remind myself how much of a deserter I was :P
By my calculations, doing it to the minute makes it accurate to 0.00016%, now there's trivia for you.

Good to see you around again, hope you'll be keeping an eye on us whether you can put anything new up or not. Cyprus, eh? If you're gonna jump on a one-way somewhere, you could do worse. Hope all's well with you, mate!

I wish I had my old phone from 2005ish with my 301 mph run the clk-gtr race car =/. Any way I could get my name up there for old time sakes? :)

Oops, seems like my camera is nowhere to be seen...:(

Luckily, my phone works just fine!

Frustratingly close in the S-Tune, I went straight from 303.xx to 307.9 and then 308... I'll be working on that one. No news from the Viper unfortunately, as I had to start the setup from scratch. Now I'm stuck at 300.5xx :banghead:

There's always next time :dopey:

Nice work there macca, I spent some time on the Viper last week too and got it to 296.92mph. Hopefully i'll get a bit more time this week and manage to get it over the 300 mark - it's a stubborn one tho!

Thanks guys, took some effort to do those. Indeed the Viper is stubborn, but there are worse! A tip with the Viper though... try not to redline it too much in 6th gear. The car will virtually stop at high revs. Hell, I don't think my Viper is redlining at all!

Also with the CIEN, the car will gain heaps if a) You use the Semi-Racing suspension, and b) You use R2 tyres on the rear. I'll put up that setup later in the week, hopefully.

I'm planning on acquiring a new R92CP as well, boy I hate that car... ;)

Okay, there are seriously too many pages to justify going through this thread, so I'm just going to ask this: How the hell does a god-damn TOMMY KIARA get to 380+ MPH when a bunch of Le Mans Protos cant even get that high?

Very special phenomenon that happens with correctly tuned AWD cars.

Also, Group C cars can indeed exceed that but they require the wheelie glitch to do so.

Actually the TK has been to 400mph when driven around the Test Course in reverse. It's a simple philosophy of tuning the car to the n'th degree with over 900hp + nitrous and knowing when to change gears and how to tune the gear ratios right to keep the car accelerating.

It's there, just search and you will find. ;)

*tree'd by RJ* Also the special acceleration effect with AWD's.

25 pages back, you will find this post. It contains a video replay of the run and two screens (one in mph and one in km/h). Furthermore, you're able to download the video straight to your computer. ;)

Sigh...I'm afraid I am unaware of this wheelie glitch.....elighten me, please?

You exploit the fact you can't flip or roll cars by changing the downforce (and perhaps ballast) to 0 front/max rear. In earlier versions of GT the car would run on two wheels and get up to 1000mph and stuff like that. It doesn't work as well (?) on GT4 but I understand (having never tried it) that you can get a few more mph on a max speed run.

It's basically a silly little glitch best enjoyed by those who like the game as opposed to the simulator.

In GT4 it's generally good for quite a good bit of speed versus a "normal" minimum-downforce setup but only 5-10mph in most cases versus the 300MPH Club legal setups that don't lift the fronts (but come very close).

In GT3 it was the difference between a 230mph Escudo and a 750mph Escudo.
