Tyre wear in 2.02?

I haven't tested out the tire wear till now, but I voted for "👍". Just because they have finally balanced the tires & gave the hard and medium tires "a reason" to be in the game. Now you have to think more about round times, pit strategy & smooth driving. :D

And you can have a good laugh now about the whining from all the RS tire noobs. Just look online, 90% of the lobbies are RS tire lobbies. Learn to drive on hard & medium tires, or play in a noob lobby without tire wear. :sly:

Ok, after driving a couple of different tracks and cars, I have found Nurburgring
to have suffered the worst from this update.
I still like the change, but it does need some tweeking.
With the Schulze Motorsport Nissan GT-R N24 fully tuned, I can get 1 3/4 laps
on RS. With RH I get 3.
I can't wait to see what happens with a LM car :)

I like the update. I was doing the 4 hrs at Tsukuba and was running sport hard. I had 32 laps with only about 1/5 or tire wear. Finally.

Im in a race series which runs tire selection like F1, we have to use 2 compounds. This update should make for a challenging race series now. I still think the wear rate is slightly to rapid though for our 50 lap races.

Going to have to say its 👎
Reason being, it is to rapid.
I am currently doing the Leman 24 hours and have to pit every 6 laps with Racing Hards in the dry, which is just ridiculous. Thats where Softs are in real life. I would expect at least 15 laps on hards.
Oh and in GT mode, you can still drive with slicks on in the rain. Its just your tyres last longer, can use a whole tank of fuel at Leman whilst on Racing Softs in the wet.

The extremely unrealistic tire wear was the one thing I hated in GT4. Why they would bring it back is beyond me. I can't even get one lap around Nurb 24hr without sliding off the track and losing all traction on medium race tires. That seems very wrong to me.

Racing softs which are completely unrealistic to me should have a maximum life of 3-5 laps on a mediums sized track and maybe a little over 1 lap on the ring. They should only be used for qualifying or any racing under 3-5 laps. If you don't like it then turn it off

Poll is pretty close! lots of mixed reactions. I guess people would just have to shut it off. I wonder if PD is taking a glimps at this POLL??:gtpflag:

I do like the racing soft qualifer tire argument.
They should give us the super soft racing tire for this.

Just did my first testing of RS for wear. Was running at LeSarthe 2009.
Audi R10: 4 laps rear tires were done.
Mazda 787: 4 laps rears half gone.
Both cars the fronts had less than 25% wear.
The big difference in the cars is the amount of torques The Audi has 800+
The Mazda 500+.
Certainly if I was running the Audi in a raqce I would put RS in front and RH in the rear. S/M for the Mazda. In either case though, if I was using up a set of tires in one lap, I would take a hard look at my driving style.

Well, no for me. The tyres wear in the right order now but they wear too quickly...I mean I almost lost the Suzuka 1000km which I was in the middle of whilst I did the update, and I was running on RH tyres.

I gave a 👍 I am noticing soft tires now wear faster than hard tires, but it's not ridiculously fast (as in GT3 or 4). Finally, PD addresses this issue.

Did some more testing at Nurburgring 24h. Rear tire wear is most affected by peak torque. Overall wear is affected by weight.
The 908 Peugeot (~1000 kg, 912 torques)ate through at set of RS rears in 2 laps, fronts were worn maybe 25%.
Ford Mark IV(1000kg, 484 torques) 4 laps to go through the rears, fronts worn ~50%.
FGT ( 545kg, 303 torques) 4 laps and the rears were worn ~65% fronts <50% wear.

What car are you using?

The difference in times from softs to med to hards is great, but I definitely think they just need to dial back the wear rate on all compounds a little bit for us guys who run 30 or more laps per race. I will note that at least with the difference in tire wear I feel like I officially have a true racing game now. If I could get a track DLC pack last I will be a silent happy camper with this GT5 title until the next 1 drops.

The tire wear is ridiculous now. I just tried to run the 24 Hours of Le Mans. I abandoned it because of the tire wear. Driving a Peugeot 908 HDi FAP, I can only get 4 laps from RS tires and 6 out of RH tires. Realistic? Not even close. My tires should last a lot longer than 25% of a fuel load!

👎👎👎👎 A full set of tires worth of thumbs down!

Looking at the current poll results, 65:tup: to 59:tdown:, it appears to me that 65 members haven't tried to run any real distance races yet (i.e. endurance races)

The two diesels (908 and the audi r10) eat their rear tires due to the immense torque they generate. Try running the race with the Maxda 787b. :)

You know what?, I also noticed that when you run the hards they do last longer, but not really. Because of their lack of grip they keep stepping out side ways just scrubbing of more rubber anyways, so they don't end up lasting long anyways. Chuyler is right in my case, I still have more to gain by running softs or mediums.

I'm still willing to work with this tire model though. I remember when I started GT5 I couldn't get more than 5 to 6 laps out of the softs, and ended up a year later riding softs all the way to 15 laps, so I'm sure we will find a way to push the tire wear back some how.

I know the diesels have massive torque, but, I don't remember seeing the Audi R18 that won Le Mans this year pit this often. And the AI cars are pitting just as often, even a pair the much slower Dodge Vipers that were entered.

My thoughts exactly. At least 50% more is the right duration for every type or Racing tires.

I agree 100%!
Tire Wear is much too short now and grip level for RH should be closer to RM to give them a tactical use!

Made it 4 laps with Sport Hard tires at Nurb TypeV. A 5th or 6th lap is possible but the pace drops significantly. This was in a stock RUF 3400S with no camber and stock toe. So even the sport tires don't last long.

Ran a 90 minute race with junker cars (350pp) on comfort med tires and no one pitted. Tires were barely worn after 50 laps of Grand Valley East.

So maybe we should be using comfort tires on our race cars lol!

At first I didn't like the new tire wear model, but the more I see it used online the more I like it. Starting to see a few rooms with longer races in which tire wear/selection comes into play. I don't think the wear is realistic but it does add another strategy element to playing online.

I like the tire wear a lot. I don't think the wear rate is the issue because I don't want to be forced to run a 45min/30 lap race to see a pit stop. The wear rate may be unrealistic, but I rarely saw races of that said length before 2.02. However, I believe the difference in grip is a larger issue. It's nearly impossible to win on racing hards at any length. Mediums only seem to win where softs would be the only tire that would pit in the entire race.
