Another very small improvement at Suzuka.

Not much to complain about, probably my first lap without visible mistake.
Just lost a littlte bit in every sector. 🙈
Saw a new personal best at S2 with a 42,950 but screwed it in the final corner. 🥲
Don't think i'm going to improve again, but i'll try.

Jeez, I may have to run this combo again to protect my gtplanet no.1 time😁.

But seriously a .950 checkpoint 2 split is utterly elite, that's .6xx bound If you hook up the final sector. Nice work!
 
Finally got a chance to give the new TT a serious attempt. Ended up with this which I think might be enough...

Put some times in for the Redbull and Alfa over the weekend.

The Redbull is really a piece of work. My first 3 attempts resulted in spinning out on the exit of T1 which was a surprise. Having to drift through the hairpin at the bottom of the hill is... interesting. This car feels mostly just way too fast for this track, and it also suffers from quite severe understeer (hence why you need to drift through the hairpin). Certainly did not enjoy trying to set a time here, hopefully the time of 1:26.936 remains gold because I really don't want to have to come back to this. Currently ranked 1,018th.

Onto the Alfa at the Glen, this is a much more fun car to drive and it sounds incredible. Unfortunately this trial is ruined by the RNG that is the Bus stop chicane kerbs. 50% of the time, these kerbs turn the car into an uncontrollable pogo stick (particularly in the rear) completely ruining the lap. The rest of the track is fantastic though and very satisfying to push the Alfa around. Current time of 1:14.607 puts me 367th. May come back to this depending on what the next trial is and how much time I have this week.

Ranking at Suzuka has fallen to 431st, probably won't go back there since its a safe gold already.

I am going to say that it does make a big difference. That said - It’s more personal experience that scientific evidence…

I have only just installed the dashboard and not really had it mounted properly on my rig. Then, as above, I have started my holiday. At Watkins Glen, even if I “smash” the introduction to the lap. I am generally 2 or 3 tenths quicker on my second lap. I am pretty sure that is tyre temperatures rather than my driving.

Either way - Good luck in your pursuit of a blazing fast lap. I cant wait to get back into it next weekend.

Yes i know that my top splits would give me a .6xx
But runs through S1 that would be fast enough are very rare, so i only got below 43 at S2 5 or 6 times.
And i noticed that the final turn is impossible to get right with a to fast S2 time. 🌝😂😂
 
Long session in the Alfa this afternoon - first thing was a livery switch to an Alboreto theme from ‘95, and then started to pump in the laps.

Got down to mid 14.6 which I was pretty pleased with but my optimals over 200 miles were a 14.385 which was quite exciting. Realized that I’m quicker through turn 1 on cold tires as my first lap after a restart would invariably be the quickest of any session.

Whittled my way to a 14.580 and then three restarts later, wrapped up this belter, one thousandth up on my optimals for the day! Would like to call this done, but this is a really enjoyable combo, so I may keep grinding as I’m not going back to the Red Bull. Cheers all

I have a real love/hate relationship with it :lol:
This morning i had a 1 hour session on it and following Matika and seriously had a bunch of laps where i was almost in his ghost after the right hander after the busstop....., but all with a terrible first corner or a missed apex on the lefthander after that...:lol:
Don't know about optimals because i do restart most of the time now, seems to be a better workflow for me on this one..
So a lot of oppertinity....... but to much faillure :lol::lol:

Back from my week off and spent time yesterday with the Red Bull. Snuck into gold, but I just don't get high downforce cars. For those who do well in these, do you have any tips or general approaches for high downforce cars where they differ from 'normal' cars?
I do not know if I should answer since I haven't even wanted to try this TT at all, but if I would, I would consider car not only "high downforce" but also "very powerful" so my logic would be to replicate how real F1 drivers/cars do and if I am not mistaken, late entry so you can straighten out car and point it into distance and wait with full throttle a lot, kinda from 50% throttle to 100% in more than a second, sometimes even two seconds if we are talking "general approach for very powerful cars". But maybe someone who is more skilled than me can share the light how they do it?

I have struggled with this one for ages. While I cannot say I have mastered it. FAR from it!!! I have begun to understand it. It is counterintuitive. The slower you go the less grip there is.

The penny “dropped” after many a lap at Lago Maggiore. The sweeping esses.
Faster and faster until you overcome the aerodynamic force and mechanical grip.

It worked for me. I hope it works for you.

Now… Where is that bottle of Ouzo

These days I was doing short stints at Suzuka, but couldn't improve my safe silver...

Today I tried to again and boom - cut 0.400 what gives me 2.99% gold!

I fear it wont be enough, Shooter will for sure do anything to take home win...
 
Here are my results from yestarday session.
I'm now happy about my Suzuka. Switchnig ABS to default made a huge difference and finally my turn 1 is a throw of dice no more.

I think I'm done with both Suzuka and Grand Valley, while I will hopefully come back to the Short Glenn

Don't give up on GV. I thought I would never do it but I was able to chip away at it and find the flow. I found TCS2 was fastest for me and also I turned down my steering sensitivity a smidge.

I'm not actually giving up, it's simply that I'm not sure I will have another run before the TT ends.
I'm nowhere gold bounded there, but I may probably improve a bit, particullary in the low speed corners, which I take too low speed and in the exit on the final chicane. I saw 0,3s alone there once or twice, just before seeing the barriers trying to catch the rear willing to pass me

I think what plays a role for me is that I generally follow a ghost, which I know is something you don’t do. I often think this is holding me back from becoming a better driver because I just replicate what someone else is doing rather than develop an intuition … but it helps with cars like this that are inherently unintuitive to drive

New 10 laps stint at GV, made a mistake, loaded both Tidgney's ghost and the ghost from my best perfomance, and it was a mess, my ghost was constantly poping in and out around me, to the point where I was unable to see my braking points.

I stopped during lap 5 to get rid of it and it's been much better after.

Enough improvement to get into silver, which I am quite pleased with.

30 laps in.
 
I won't be near the PS4 at all this week so you may have some peace in knowing that if you improve, I can't beat you again 😂

After picking up my daughter from college, I decided to come back for a little trip to Watkins Glen. This circuit and this Italian girl are so addictive that it's impossible to resist. I'm really happy with my first sector at 30'796 and the others too but I don't think I can do better. Well not today because this was really the last test 🤣🤣.

Really enjoyed the Alfa and the Mazda this week, especially because after the first runs I was silver which helps! Managed to improve both to gold, would only make that 3 golds in the TT's for me.

The RB however wasn't enjoyable, partly because I can't get on with the 'new' grand valley but also the car feels so big and cumbersome in the tight corners, I'm stuck on bronze and have no intention to revisit, not an enjoyable combo for me.
 
The lap of dreams

Since joining the GTP leaderboards that I have been following a lap like this. The hated by most , despicable x2019 beast, has always been one of my favourite machines in this game. The amount of throttle control it requires to squeeze every last tenth out of it is just insane. This car is the one , where I believe , the skill ceiling is the highest, at least regarding the competition oriented cars.

Despite being a whopping 1.6s from the top time I feel absurdly proud of this lap. And I really hope that this ends in the top 100.

From the first lap clocking at a 1.30 flat I never thought I would find another 4 entire seconds around the course. However around 4 hours later split among 3 sessions , the time really started to come down. During the last session today I managed to drop from 26.600 to this time. Optimal was at 25.98 so perhaps I could drop this a lil bit more.

Let's see if it's needed.

Anyways, just wanted to share with you guys my most valuable achievement in this game to date.

Despite being a high down force machine this track has more time to be gained when the down force is not applied. That's where I found most of my time anyway , traction zones where you almost come to a complete stop.
The first hairpin is super tricky since you almost have to drift it in 1st gear and instantly switch from brake to slight acceleration while praying to not spin out. And the next corner was the one just before the first tunnel, where ideally you want to drift it in 1st gear and smooth out in 2nd while not spinning the wheels.

Other than that you can almost always brake later than you think. Where the down force kinda comes to play is the esses complex after the downhill hairpin where with the right line you can carry absurd amounts of speed comparing to other classes of cars.

Try to nail the line and acceleration into the bridge as there is always time to find there , and it's such a tricky corner that does not seem technical at all.

So after a few days off the TTs whilst the mother-in-law was invading visiting I came back today, I was so tempted to just jump straight into the Alfa but was haunted by the fact my red bull rocket was still in silver. I toiled for 20-25 laps getting absolutely nowhere, around same time every lap in the high 1:17/low 1:18's until, for no discernable reason at all, I struck a 1:27.078 and BOOM, there it is, safely (hopefully) back in Gold, onto the Alfa now...

The slow left and right before the last tunnel going to the start/finish line was the last bit for me to nail and the hardest to be consistent with. Not being too greedy on entry, carrying the right amount of speed on the way out and the 3rd/4th change point was where all the time was won and lost for me in the end. I also realized that I was using too high a gear at a couple of apexes. Very satisfying to nail though and something I enjoyed FAR more than I thought. Nowhere near your lap time though - congrats 👏
