That’s a skill!
Thanks mate.. but nah, its just practice over time.

Welcome to this thread.. It is hands down the friendliest place you will find on the interwebs. Stick around, this place is guaranteed to make you faster. I know that you are aware of this already as you have received some stellar advice from our residents here...

You are right there at the gold for Suzuka. Keep pushing and Gratz on the progress you have made thus far!!

Finally had an hour time to get started at Eiger Nordwand.
I usually do short 10-lap sessions en then restart. Otherwise I become to focussed on my optimals and start making mistakes.
Started with my Mäkinen Marlboro Lancer from my garage and after the third session got to a 1.16.390 with an optimal of 1.15.9xx
Took a 10 min break to see what's happening at LCD and UCD, needed the F40 as duplicate to engine swap lol...
Started another session, with a black rental for reasons unknown.
Think the 'rental-is-faster' situation is rubbing of on me because I got to a 1.15.690 pretty fast 😅

There is still some room for small improvements, but next 48hours will be trying to get gold in Suzuka...

Now I understand why I was so much struggling. AT is a disadvantage. I was not even realizing how big of a difference MT makes. Obviously I am not comfortable and make a lot of mistakes, but I have clocked my personal best lap…with the MT:-) And I do not even know how to properly use it:-)) Feels awesome:)

0.9 sec from GOLD:-)

I just looked.

I think that:
  • drop to 3 at the end of the S curves,
  • short shift up to 3 at the exit of Spoon,
  • cross the last chicane in 3,

can help you find the tenth that you are looking for.

Bravo for your MT learning.

My first stint at Suzuka and just barely into the gold. My optimals are in the 1:36:8xx range, but I am finding it super challenging to nail sector 1 and keep all that momentum going into sector 2.
I know this 2.91% is definitely not safe... come Wednesday evening, it will probably be down to silver.
I have two more stints to make sure this stays gold.

Happy Hunting Folks

Look at it this way: you are already rather close to your optimum. I wanted a sub-37 so hard but so far my best lap is 37.3xx while my optimum is 36.6xx! Maybe I will get a last chance this evening... At the same time I am happy to see that I am not too far away from you after some time... 👍 Go and get it done!

You are just 2/10ths shy of the gold and you have a superb optimal.

Go chasing that sub 37!!
You will surpass my time this evening 🤞

"Get in there, Lewis!"

Thank you very much! When you say „drop to 3 at the end of the S curves”, which exact place you have in mind and, more importantly, why? :-)
The rest is clear, appreciate it!

Hi fellas, no Eiger for me but a return to Suzuka to try and get a safe banker after a weekend away in the lakes and picking up my newest toy… this trial is still a little frustrating after the last two physics changes that have definitely made light high downforce cars more difficult to drive on a wheel. I still have no real idea what my steering inputs are doing even with max torque jacked up. The only hints are change in tyre squeal sound and errr going slower..

Anyways, trial and error still works but a frustrating lack of consistency steals the fun for me; I keep chocking on a 1:34.xxx but I know getting into the 34s will be a safe top 100 so I’m gonna try again!

You're so slow, I am a full 6 one thousandths faster than you ;)

GT7 has this thing where shifting down increases rotation (compared to same speed at higher gear). While optimal traction at exit here is in 4th you get more rotation shifting down to 3rd through the turn.

Also the final right handed S is considerably slower than the other Esses.

Yes no arguing that shifting down aids rotation in real life, hence all the diff settings one can play with in a race car. Shifting up one gear extra on exit is also a real thing in the wet, you see Supercar drivers do this if Bathurst is wet, they are notorious "lively" cars to drive with bog powerful engines and frankly laughable tyres.

However, the fact the game allows you to spam both up and down the box is a bit much. Guys are dropping to 1st to aid rotation in 3rd gear corners then fast shifting up to 3rd or 4th to avoid wheelspin on exit, that's where I shake my head.

Merci beaucoup ! Quand vous dites « descendre à 3 à la fin des courbes en S », à quel endroit précis faites-vous référence et, surtout, pourquoi ? :-)
Le reste est clair, appréciez-le !
The end of the S curves, for the last right turn, I copy the passage of Kylian Drumont, at least I try.

Go down in 3 before the Apex mark, relieve the gas, then short shift in 4... this allows to reduce the understeering, to return faster to the middle of the track to pass the next left turn flat out, the 5th gear before touching the curb.

I do not execute it perfectly but I put my PB replay online : 1.36.003 (I believe that the doors of .35.xxx club will remain closed for me)

Edit :

It’s been a long time since I was forced to go down to the 2nd page of my friends leaderboard to find my time.

But here comes a new challenger !!!

As usual, @NAXEHT will start at the last minute and relegate me further 😅

Aha... so this is how to end sector 1 perfectly and carry that momentum into sector 2.

Thanks for this explanation

Not just a GT7 thing, it's a real life thing too. 😉

Sorry for my ignorance. I honestly thought it was one of those quirks of the Gran Turismo engine that some folks complain about. Since I have maybe 4 hours of rental karts under my belt as any kind of real life racing experience I had no idea that car physics work like that.

Was it 2-stroke karts? Cause those things don't have any engine braking. 😆
