Not much time the past few days, but i did manage to wrestle a 48.6 out of it though. Not being a fan of, or any good at, this track is my biggest issue to breaking under a 48.5 i think.

I certainly have it in me, as i can be ahead of my best ghost, at multiple points on the lap, i just can not put it all together in the same lap. Probably one of the most funstrating time trial yet, for me

I took a much-needed break to drive in a newly acquired Porsche 550 Speedster. That got me thinking, which never ends well.

Time Trial Shower Thoughts:

  • Feature more Legendary Cars in the Time Trials (as we have had with Senna's Mclaren, the Escudo, and the Skyline Silhouette)
  • In addition to credits, have the rewards be Legendary Cars, with Gold and/or Silver rewarding the car that's featured
  • Caution: Skylines and GT-Rs are also in the Legendary Car Dealership...

This would be one of the few places we'd get to really wring out the quirky (and supremely over-priced) show cars. Players could finally get a good test-drive before FOMO buying from the Legendary Car Dealership. And we could get that sense of "pride and accomplishment" that game publishers have been trying to convince us is totally not a grindy cash-grab for the last decade ().

It'd be a hoot to see the aliens pushing the limits of the comfort tires in a time trial atmosphere too while the rest of us test and debate strategy. Some of us might even come out with a new appreciation for cars we'd have looked over otherwise, which is on-brand for GT.

Sometimes I think that these time trials are created by an over-worked, starry-eyed intern and are actually awesome until Kaz strolls by randomly to "fix" them before release.

This concludes my non-contribution to this thread. Back to chasing that last one thousandth of a second.

Except those that already have everything, it'd be a waste of a trial. Only useful if the gold reward would be a 20 mil car
That's why the reward would be credits + the car. And the implication was definitely to focus on the 10+ mil credit cars that most have passed on or didn't have time to grind for. The 300 SL and the Alfa 8C come to mind. For the really fussy collectors, that gives an option to grab a duplicate for tuning, modding and other unholy GT things

If we'd had this with the featured car being the F40, I guarantee a bunch of people from the LCD thread would have popped up here because of the Great F40 Drought from a couple months ago.

If we're still trying to convince people to jump in, make the bronze reward credits + a guaranteed engine type. Watch people come off the sidelines, especially for engines not included in the Bonanza :mischievous:

How the HELL do those of you on a wheel drive this car? If i give it ANY more throttle than a tiiiiiiny squeeze it spins. I managed three clean laps with a fast time of 1.54.5 with TC1 on because for the utter LIFE OF ME I could not keep it planted with TC off, which is proper crazy for an AWD car. My DS4 time is 1.49.3.

Ah, well, I don't use manual gears...... my old brain can't handle watching the road, steering, braking AND gears all at the same time. 🤣
Yes it can. My brain is also quite old. If mine can do it, yours can do it, too. I switched to MT two months ago after being hesitant for a long time. Takes two or three hours to make the change, and two or three days to make it second nature. Trust me.

Err... okay, that means trusting a guy you don't know anything about, talking to you about a video game on the internet...😬

But you get the point, right?😆

Don't you use the X button for your throttle?

That's my point. With TC off i can use the X button and be fine, on the wheel it's unbelievably sensitive, unless the car is dead straight i have to be uber careful. Literally zero clue how wheel people are turning decent laps, zero.

As a former wheel user, I assume the rest are taking advantage of the increased range of pedal travel. Could be that you aren't used to that level of finesse with your legs yet. I warmed up to throttle control quickly, but it took me AGES to learn finesse on brakes with my other leg / foot. And, I had to learn again after switching to a load cell. The back stepping out is similarly related to how much steering you're inputting.

Your issues might also be with pedal calibration and you have to work out what your preferences are.

Psychology may also a factor. I came into this TT expecting the Skyline to handle like a heavy AWD machine (Audi-steer). It broke my brain for a while to realize this thing is FR most of the time; and it lets you know at the most awkward times. While ostensibly being AWD at other equally, painfully awkward times!

On expectations again, it could also be that you're expecting a range of finesse to come intuitively, but it hasn't (yet) because of your own unique skillset. Because this is taking possibly longer than what you're used to, this could be sending you into a frustration feedback loop that slows down the learning process.

Admittedly, I'm a little miffed on how you can use the X button for throttle and be good but having a set of pedals with like five inches of travel for easing onto the gas seems difficult. Unless I am misunderstanding.

But yea, you have to be careful not to stab the gas or it'll spin. Just gotta be easy with her. but that's not atypical.

Wow finally!!! Get stock on 1:48.6.. and bum over 0.500 gain;)

This. I spent 30 years using automatic through various racing games. I made the switch during one of these time trials. Now I still tend to use auto my first go around in a car just to get a feel of the handling on whatever course it is we're on any given trial, but that's generally it. I'll go to manual for my second run. While I may be a little less consistent initially, I always put down a faster lap in that session. There is a ton of time to be gained. A lot more than you might realize.

Same here. But almost 40 years for me. "Super Monaco Grand Prix" on Sega Genesis was first, Sega Rally, Colin McRae, all Gran Turismos. Always on automatic, until about two or three months ago, when somehow I found some competitive spirit while trying online races for the first time. When I was finally approaching the DR A rating, the switch had to be done.

I think you're 100pc correct. I just need to get used to it and I may well be forced to as the controller is giving me tendonitis in my shoulder and elbow. But I am staggered, totally staggered, at the difference. Partly because I don't have total control over the steering feel so I struggle to get the car pointed "just right" , I then carrrrrrrrefulllllllly get on the gas and around she goes.

Its excruciating, zero fun.

You might want to adjust the pedal settings. You can't do much, but you can at least add deadzone so it won't be as sensitive...

I'm a seasoned wheel user and there was no way I could run the pedals on default settings. GT7 is very sensitive with throttle application.

Yowza! 5 laps at lunchtime and down to 1:52.666 (!!!) and only 5.86% off the leader, closest I have ever been to silver!
I may take advice from posters in this thread (thanks!) and try manual but to be honest, I'm pretty sure the electronics in the car will make better gear change decisions than me ;)

The electronics can't shortshift. You can. That will give you the missing second for silver. 👍

Done another guide for us non-Alien folk on dualsense! Hit a 1:48.4XX so felt good enough to use for the demo. It was quite a rough lap though! Really dragged that car around smoking up the tyres at one point. So should be more time to come. I've included chase cam after some of the discussion in this thread!

Awesome video, thanks to this (and learning to drive without TCS) I managed to improve from a 1:51 down to a 1:49.181

Did a little improvement yesterday, and now I'm sitting at 1:50.1X
Just one of the 3 intervals was my best, for the remaining I just had a decent lap.

The best of my bests is now about half a second to the gold. I'm happy because this is the first time where gold doesn't look impossibile (actually is will probably be, but much less than the other TTs)

Thanks to your comments, they are very usefull.

Right now I don't see a turn where I'm completely off (T4 and T12 gave me that feeling in the early days), which means that I have to execute better in each turn.

The phase where I probably can improve more is acceleration.
I'm currently running with TC1, I understand that TC0 is far better, but I'm struggling to put a lap togheter with TC0. Pinehirinho is where I struggle the most
I'm mixing sessions with TC1 and sessions with TC0 otherwise I get frustrated
But I have the feeling that TC0/1 is just part of the issue, I'm maybe simply waiting too much to reopen because my brain does not trust that I will stay in the track limits

The truth is that those of us using a wheel have FAR SUPERIOR skills to controller users. If we all switched to controller we’d be seconds faster, but we value the realism of a wheel. :D

You’ll quickly get the hang of it, it’s a “feel” thing where you need to get used to fine throttle control and the sensitivity of steering angles.

Once it clicks you won’t believe you ever used a DS4.

I'm still stuck at 1:49.724 so i thought i'd try A/T, best i could do was 1:50.018,problem i found was it stays in 2nd gear too long thru first S turns and the last hard left, too slow, drops to 2nd,if i maintained speed in 3rd i was hitting the corner at the wrong angle which is where my ghost would pass me,back to M/T and see what happens today :dopey:

Heh. My previous best was Sunday. Then I took 3 days off, had to shake off the rust yesterday not getting under 48.4 (3 tenths off Sunday), and gave it another go tonight. Despite my inconsistency, I had that one oddball lap and improved to 1:48.040. The only difference was I shifted into 4th mid-corner in turn 4 instead of staying in 3rd.

I still felt I left some time on the table. Sub 1:48 is so tantalizingly close!
