I love the combination, but hate the bollards. There are perfectly good track limits in the form of lines; why add these artificial ones? Real shame - did a low 2:19 last night and that will have to do. Back to Tsukuba to grind milliseconds!!
I noticed your gain at Tsukuba, well done mate, I'm kicked out of the top 100 but I totally lost interest.
I hope Spa will grow on me 😁😁

18' s should be more than doable when we find muffin his natural steering state thing 😁
Well...I found the state...I just couldn't hold it for more than a fraction of a second 🫠 It is like no matter what I do, it will just go into understeer 🤣

Continue to lift off the brakes slowly...understeer.
Hold the brake pressure...understeer.
Lift off completely....understeer.
🤪

Have you tried a different car yet? The Supra feels a little more agile, imo.

Hey guys, I've got a general question about those TT events.

As I understand, all tuning settings are being reset ("fixed") when I use my own car instead of a rental car, so there's much more "equalizing" happing than just BOP, right? If so, what about adjustments which technically could not be unset, such as engine swap, engine modifications, and wide body? And what about aero such as front / rear spoiler / wing?

Does the game "unset" all those things as well, even though the player couldn't do so himself?

And if so, what's the point of using an own car instead of a rental car, besides the livery? Are there any advantages left?

Some might say that the colour orange makes your car faster. Others prefer tuning by stickers... So, "your own" car gives you more possibilities. Otherwise the rental is at least as good as your own.

No real point that I'm aware of. I always just use rentals myself. I often do some quick preliminary laps on the controller when a new TT starts and I like using the odometer on the rental to know when I've done the necessary miles for my daily marathon ticket

And legend has it, racing stripes may result in faster lap times.

Edit for staying on topic:
before losing gold last minute like last week, I snuck in one last Wednesday session at Catalunya to be safe rather than sorry

A first session at Spa yesterday resulted in high 2:20. Will need to improve on this, as it probably will not hold for gold. Not the quickest at Spa and a great opportunity to work on my racing line. The Supra and the R34 are usually my go-to Gr. 3 cars for online lobbies and sport mode races, so I'd probably try the R34 next. Also eager to find how the NSX complies with my driving style.

Many thanks, guys - so the game effectively unsets things that theoretically could not be unset (like a wide body), right? Too bad...

And oh, thanks for those precious tipps like using orange livery, stickers and racing stripes to get faster - now I got an explanation for why I never got gold so far :P

Picked up a new livery and 6 tenths in an early morning run today... Optimal of 2:18.93. I think if I duck under 2:19, I'll be done. It's fun, but the devil is in the details as always, and it's the details that are already starting to become frustrating (as others have said), whether that's bollards, understeer/rotation or how close to run to the rev limiter in the lower gears. Happy lapping

Many things the game will "unset" back to the requirements for the TT, but not all. Things like widebody and Nos can't be undone for some reason. You'll often see this in the settings of the TT where it says wide body not allowed. If your car has a widebody installed, it won't be allowed into the TT. This just happened to me for the NSX TT. Unfortunately, the car wasn't available in the UCD so I just rented.

But, tuning things (not including Nos and I don't think engine swaps) will be set back to OEM... at least performance wise. If you have some cool wheels, big Brembo's, wings, and exhaust they are still visible and hearable (is that a word?) in the TT. So the extra visual and audio aesthetics are another reason to use your own car.

Oh, thanks for that explanation. But such wheels, wings etc. will only have decorative effects, right (ie. being visible and audible but not affecting driving in any way)?

Wheel size, width and offset do have an effect in Time Trials and other race modes with BoP enabled.

Anything else installed from GT Auto is only cosmetic (brakes will be reverted to factory and may lose the custom color option).*

I never noticed this. This would actually be quite cool. *I thought brakes and exhaust were reset to factory.

Hmm, really? Seems logically weird to me - why should I be allowed to tune my car using custom wheels and wheel settings, but not adjusting suspension, for example?

(yeah I know some will answer "That's just how it works in this game, dude" :) )

Yes, everything you mentioned is visual only.

Another thing to think when using your own car would be oil change. Using a car for while (and these TTs can make you drive long distances at the end of the day) can affect their oil conditions, and it would have to be changed.

It costs almost nothing, and I'm not sure if affects the car's performance in the TT itself but there's that for you to manage.

So.... If you care about visuals use your own car and mind its conditions (oil, body ridigity etc)

If you don't care about looks, go rental.

I personally like to use my own cars, I grinded the money and bought'em so I should use'em.
I don't care about mileage or don't mind keeping an eye on the maintenace they require.

So the cars are in equal conditions for every player. There are (rare) instances when tuning is allowed though in TTs and daily races, but most of the times the car is stock/BOP and everybody has the same machinery.

It's a driving challenge and not an engineering challenge after all. 😅

Now I'm confused. Dug up this old post when the topic came up in the RCR Civic TT.

Now I'm confused (2) 🤔

In my experience, custom wheels, rear wings or diffusers and silencers have zero effects and they are ok to use in the TT.

But wheels displacements is something I never tested because I only do it in widebody cars and wide cars can not enter the time trials...

The conversation around the RCR Civic was interesting, as some others weighed in on the topic too. My pose on this has changed a bit since then and I believe I can feel a difference with the (mostly front) larger/wider wheels with/or wide offset sometimes noticeably sticking on the fenders under too much suspension compression. In some cases, the wider stance seems to improve grip though (the E36 M3 for example was almost impossible to drift on stock offset and it took me a minute to figure this out).

Right - and not right. In today's real-world sports, whether it's car racing, mountain biking, running, skiing or whatever, as soon as any equipment is in charge it's always a HUGE engineering challenge going on. And that's especially true for high-tech sports such as F1 / Super formula / WTC / WRC etc.

EDIT: What I mean with the above is that there would be a real point in fixing less and allowing more even in TT, tuning-wise.

But thanks for the explanations - and I'm pretty confused now as well...

The brakes abilities are set back to stock, but visually they're whatever you installed.

This is a screenshot from Daily A a few weeks back (which also has BoP same as the TTs), with the Radicals at Watkins and you can see the Brembos on the car.

Similarly with the exhaust, the updated tone will still be there but the performance will not. One of the first things I do when buying a new road car is headers, cams, and exhaust as those three things really liven up the sound of the car. So yea, it stays like that, from an audio perspective, within the TTs (or Daily As for that matter).

ETA - Another Daily A where you can see the Brembos and different wing on my Miata.

...and kinda hard to see, but this was a TT some time ago and if you look closely you can see the Brembos on the NSX.

It doesn't matter what parts you choose to help you car improve, once you enter the event, the BoP will make those adjustments be void meaning you'll be on your own. That's why I don't bother with tuning my car anymore, I wasted money buying parts, wheels, turbo boosts, weight reductions, etc. So, good luck to you at Spa, we're all gonna need it. PD should start letting people just rent a car because you can't even put modifications on your own purchased cars/machines.

You can choose to rent every single tt, or You can use your own car and have a custom livery...wing....rims.... colour..... etc..etc...
What would you wanna change about it?

Gran Turismo is meant to reach an audience as broad as possible, therefore the decision to keep things as simple as possible I guess. Some conditions in past TTs (high speed and high downforce cars, rally or snow tracks) were enough to lower the number of participants, I imagine what would be if tuning were a permanent thing every week.

And of course tuning can work wonders and there are dozens of wizards out there that are able to transform anything into a racing car and for sure there's a strong tuning niche in the GT7, it is just that the online time trials keeping things simple, appealing and friendly to its audience.

Nothing, I was answering his question to the best of my knowledge with this car lingo/TT stuff. Like Skydragon said, we should just accept things as they are, PD won't make anymore changes anyway. We're lucky they let us do these events without having to pay for PS Plus. Wish it was that way with the daily races. Well I'm getting to work at Tsukuba. I always look forward to TT's here because I end up getting a gold time, or high silver time. Time to roll!

PS Plus is required for multiplayer. Daily Races are multiplayer. Time Trials are not. PD has nothing to do with it.

They do, in every Sport Mode event.
