I made some more progress at Road Atlanta, 1'36.251. I'm starting to understand the turn 1 at Road Atlanta, you have to brake close to the cones and then turn right smoothly without the car sliding. The first Sector requires a lot of focus and precision near the blind corner. I'll get the hang of it, it's all about trial and error and using different driving lines and braking points between the 0-100 meter marks. I'm gonna show some videos of what mistakes I'm making. The two consecutive right turns can be tricky too, this part was also in Master license B-9. Remember that? Finding the correct braking point is key for having a strong exit from any turn or corner.

And do not get me started on the final chicane near the Firefox Factory thing. I must try to get in the 1'35.000 zone tonight. If not, maybe by tomorrow.

This place is crazy fast… feel like I’m standing still while the rest of you are all getting faster. Succumbed to peer pressure 😆 and switched over to the Viper. First 10 laps and 3 tenths faster than my lap in the Corvette and agonizingly close to dropping into the 44s. Optimal splits look promising though, and the Viper’s a fast car, it just needs some persuasion to stop, turn and put down its power lol!! Happy lapping

A few minor corrections and a bit more time can be achieved. I already feel like I’m at the limit with this car. 😂
Wow, 298th!! That's brilliant man. I need to get started with it and pick the right Group 3 car for the job. I'm sure you are at limit since you're in with the aliens. I guess I should go with the Viper then.

I changed my mind, I'll have to work on Daytona tonight when I get up. Took too much energy Friday and Saturday at RA. Care to look?

Positives:
  • I’m… learning.
  • I got into the 1:45s
  • The cars look and sound cool
  • Many people are now driving the Dodge Danger Noodle!!!

I started with the Ford GT and came away horrified at how slippery it was accelerating out of the slow corners. That gives you an idea of how long it’s been since I’ve pushed Gr.3 cars, how infrequently I drive Daytona and how much of a gorilla I still am with my driving inputs.

The Dodge Danger Noodle helped me learn throttle discipline and I ended up with my best time in the Ford GT. I may revisit this, but I need a couple days to recover mentally.

Negatives:
Off throttle, the cars that I drove felt as if they had a window where it was OK to turn in, then PD noticed that I hadn’t done anything with the throttle or brakes for too long and flipped the punishment understeer switch.

The cars felt OK to exit slow corners around 95% throttle, then had no grip to accelerate at 100% throttle.

Me: This looks good. Full power now?
Also Me, but as the Car: No! 98% throttle only until the road is 110% straight, otherwise I stop accelerating
.
Crew Chief: ... Are you OK?

I feel that I need to keep the car in a narrow window of braking, throttle and turning; otherwise they just fall apart. It’s as if the Gr.3 cars are intentionally set up to be hard to drive – hard for the sake of being hard. Driving them feels like all work with no reward.

- End Rant

Much respect to all of you. You are all a wealth of knowledge and are way, way too fast  👍

Today I've binned off the dual shock 4 and I'm now rocking a g923 wheel.

On the plus side, it's so nice to be able to drive in a straight line, or hold a turning angle without constantly making micro adjustments with
motion steering

Wait.... I don't remember you mentioning motion steering 🤔 so there are 3 of us then 😅

Last weekend was one of them not feeling GT7 again, shame as I missed out on the GT3 Spa after recreating the Castrol NSX so I could change the colours 🤦🏻‍♂️

Friday night the wife was out, so switched the PS4 on and still didn't get that feeling, so tried out MFGT and I have to say, it is nice seeing my name at the top of my friends list 🤣 and not just once either 👽😝

So onto yesterday, I finally decided to just jump back in, with a BTCC livery...

Didn't like the Ford at all 😅 so that was short lived...

Went back for a few more laps but no more improvement

From my visit to Silverstone last year, whoever recreated the livery did a pretty good job 👍🏻

I have cleaned the dust off the AMG for Daytona but probably won't bother with it until next weekend as have a busy day today and busy week ahead with work.

If you only have a pad, I think motion steering is the obvious option - much more fun than using the sticks. How come you don't use the G29 much?

Mainly due to not getting that much time online, plus the PS4 is downstairs and my PC is upstairs... so basically me just being lazy 🤣

Once the T598 comes back in stock I may start using a wheel more often and relocate the PS4.

There is one here who has been very discreet for a few weeks... 🤔🤔
Perhaps because he has gone over to the side of the green force (👽) and he doesn't want it to be known.. 🤣🤣
It's is a nice guy who comes from a country where they eat very good pancakes but where the women dress in a weird way 🤣🤣

(and even then it's not the weirdest costume)...
I don't know if you recognized him and especially if he recognized himself 🤣🤣 but I would like to congratulate you my dear friend D... 😍😍 for the progress you have made in recent weeks !!!!!
Bravo bravo and again bravo my dear friend 👏👏👏

New test today in Daytona :
after the advice of @crome who told me to put the CSA on strong, the TC on 2 and the advice of @Gomario JSP who told me to put the TC on 0 and exit in 3rd, I decided to make a mix of the 2 !!!!
First of all I kept the CSA on strong and I put the TC at 0 and used 3rd on exiting the turns. Well I would like to thank them because thanks to their advice I was able to improve my time to 1'45'559 with an optimal time of 1'45'470

Thanks again my friends for yours advices !!!!:cheers:

In preparation of my 2 Hour Roar before 24 race this sat this TT is definitely going to help me. We can use mediums and soft tires, so the hards will sharpen me up before for the race. I can def hit Mid 45 with some seat time… I did the Daytona GT3 race for some practice and a lil TT. You guys are truly amazing and inspiring with your driving and the way you help anyone get faster.. One of the best threads for GT7 imo!

Hi,

Hello 330_d! Just a tenth between us now. Blimey!

I think I am going to have to play around with the TCS thing now...

When I run a lap with TCS 0, I generally end up spinning out on the hairpins. If I run a lap on TCS 1, I am near my best time but can't just quite beat it. So - TCS 0 until each hairpin, then TCS 1 at the "critical" parts? What say you sir?

I have tried this approach previously with limited success and result. That said, I have managed to complete some more Circuit Experience tests today, using this method. Including the High Speed Ring - A test that I have been failing miserably at for almost 2 years now!!! 😳

I have abandoned any further attempts to improve my Road Atlanta time in the Ford. It just is not good for my stress levels!!!

Best regards to all here.

Ian.

Looking at the chatter on TCS and CSA - I have both off in the Viper but interested what folks are using for ABS. All my laps tend to be ABS weak unless it's a monster of a car on RS tires. Is anyone using Default at Daytona in the Viper?

Not the sir you addressed, but I‘ll weigh in regardless, hope you don‘t mind. 😉
This is a recurring topic and there are very different opinions about TCS, but here‘s mine:

People generally over-exaggerate the negative effects that TCS has. If you feel like it helps you get out of the hairpins, just leave it on. In the parts of the track where you are not at risk of experiencing wheel spin, it makes no difference if it‘s on or off. And on the slow exits it only really becomes a problem if you over-rely on it (i.e. go full throttle and let TCS catch it). If you apply similar inputs to what you would do with TCS 0, you get similar performance because the system does not need to kick in. And the difference between 0 and 1 is especially negligable.

I use TCS 2 here all the way and am within reach of a top 100 pace.

I can kind of get behind the argument against TCS for the sake of the „purer“ experience, but from a performance point of view I‘d say „don‘t bother“ unless you are truly aiming for the alien times.

Edit: @Carlos Fandango default for me in the Viper. But I haven‘t tried weak here yet so I can‘t comment on what works better.

I was a bit slower using normal ABS, but there wasn’t much in it, I think you can maybe drive a bit differently and make the most of each setting.

It is definitely easier though, turn one in particular.

Also for me there is minimal difference between TC0 and TC1, sometimes TC1 is a nice safety net when learning a new car.
