First of all @Vule sad to see you leave, if only temporary, but perfectly understandable of course. I wish you all the best and will remain forever thankful for the tip with the brake pedal springs ;)

I spent the last 60 minutes with what is by now a typical Thursday evening routine: trying the new TT for „just a few laps“ before I would „go back“ to the old one, only to get completely hooked on the shiny new thing, even if that thing is an EV that weighs what feels like three tons 🤣

And this one was especially deceiving. Got gold in the very first lap (really the only difficulty was finding the brake markers, and that‘s trivial if you follow a ghost with brake lights). Then got down to 1:27.6 in lap 3 already with a 1:03.7 S2 split. Little did I know I would spend the next 25 laps cursing the wildly inconsistent track limits for turns 3 and 4 and getting nowhere even close to that time again.

Luckily I could finish the session with a happy end.

This one already felt close to optimal in the first two sectors, but I lost some time in the chicane and the final corner. So getting below 1:37 should be possible and it’s what I‘m aiming for.

That @Gomario JSP is able to pull that off sitting on the couch behind his laptop is … astounding 🤣

Edit: oh yeah, forgot to mention: I mapped the overtake button to the right paddle since I don‘t need to shift anyway. Worked really well for me.

My dear fellow racers and friends, it turns out the (ruined) Testarossa time trial is the last one I will be doing, at least in the forseable future. Life got in the way, since I started my private business and didn't rent any office space, I've been working from home, but the need for extra room, extra desk, computers, printers etc unfortunately surpases my available space, and I had to dismantle my whole rig today.

At the same time I'm happy and sad, happy because in the last couple of months I've been pushing myself to drive, I didn't do much except time trials, and to be completely honest, it's a relief to take a (probably) very big break, I just lost the "spark", it got a bit boring and stale.

I'm sad of course because I'm sure I will miss it at some point, and I'll miss the competition here, chasing thousands and exchanging fastest laps with some of the resident aliens here. I won't be selling my equipment, I just packed it all away and stored it in the basement, it will be waiting for me when I decide the time is right. Maybe 6 months, maybe more, maybe for GT8... Who knows...

I want to take this opportunity to thank every single member of this forum that I had an interaction with, I won't be tagging anyone because there are so many of you and I'm sure I'll forget someone. I learned so much and created so many new "friendships" if you can call it that, this community elevated my hobby to a whole new level, my hobby that kept me sane and helped me clear my mind after long working days, family challenges and all of the daily struggles for the past 3 years.

I will be following the forum for sure, maybe doing some weekly challenge races on the DualSense, but for any competitive stuff - that will have to wait a bit.

Best of luck to all of you in all the upcoming challenges and trials  :gtpflag:
Vule'll be back :sly::dopey:.

Best of luck with your venture! Been a pleasure having you push me over the couple of months and I look forward to the day you take the gear back out of hiding. I can't believe you're leaving me to hang out with... that guy @Dan_Tes

On other notes I've been curious, does your TT pace transfer to race pace at all? Mine does not due to a lack of consistency and can't help if I'm wondering up the wrong tree by trying so hard to be fast on one lap.

I don‘t do a lot of (sport mode) racing, but when I do I am pretty mediocre, and what you say about consistency makes perfect sense to me. All this time trialing has certainly improved my skills, but it also conditioned my brain to crank the risk / reward knob to 11, and that‘s not really helpful in a race 🤣

That and the need to react to what other players do of course.

This is really interesting as most of my time is Sport mode, and TT challenges have definitely helped my times and car control but racing other people and sharing space and making mistakes are a different type of skill to time attacks. One isn't better or worse than the other but just different dynamics

It's a joy when you aren't trying to push it to the limit.
It's a joy if I win gold [or PD changes credit payouts so we'll get 2mill for bronze or silver which will never happen] but since I'll never have been marginally close to gold it's always very boring for me to do any of the online time trials.

After a couple of weeks away from the game and driving with a fuzzy head while having Covid, I had a go with the Ionic 5N. Very pleased with my first session managing to get into the top 500. I was disappointed that the car doesn’t have the simulated manual and the sounds associated with it.

I know this is only early days, but I tend to do well with electric cars. Hopefully I can remain in the top 1000 by the time this is all done.

I might enjoy this TT if it wasn't for the car having overtake. Problem is I don't have a button to map it to that doesn't make it uncomfortable. Jamming my left thumb into the left stick when I'm turning even slightly is no bueno, but none of the other buttons are going to work for me. Wait...now that I think about it...If I'm not shifting, I can use one of those buttons. :dunce: I'll try that next time.

Ah buddy I’m gonna miss you! Was an epic battle at Daytona 🤝🏼. Chasing every last tenth of a second is a bit of a fools game but thank you for playing, now I just have to hope that @bliprunner and @A_Higher_Place can keep me entertained in the next trials.

Best of luck on your venture and hopefully see you back on the top of our leaderboards sometime soon

see you again GIF

It is a beautiful message, full of wisdom and gratitude.

I want above all you wish the best for this new adventure.

I think you’re doing the right thing.

More than 20 years ago, I started my entrepreneurial project under the same conditions as you.

I want to tell you that it is an exciting and so enriching adventure... time passes so fast that I have the feeling of having started only 2 or 3 years ago.

I also think that your participation in this challenge has certainly strengthened your rigor, your competitive instinct, your self-denial... very useful things when starting a business.

When things are right, I recommend you return to our shared hobby.

It is also important to create breathing space to keep your motivation for work at its best.

Good luck 🤞🤞🤞

God i had a frustrating morning with the Ionic....
I had somany great sectors but so often a sort of drop of power at random places, low rpm... high rpm.... full throttle.... and i have no clue why it's happening, ...... maby a Duelsense problem? or are you guys having the same thing?...

At the 1:00 mark on the exit it totally dips and unsettles the car...., you can hear it too, and this 100% full throttle ..

Lots of .9xx but progression cause i was irritated like crap 🤣 🤣

I had what will be my one and only session in that abomination of a driving experience last night and had a similar experience. Since I won't go back I didn't investigate the source, but was wondering if maybe I inadvertently touched the brake, as it tended to happen close to braking zones after long straights.

Funny that you and Mario had this as well, I had it at the braking zones almost like the car hit the rev limiter but obviously it can't.

I thought it was my harsh lift off or the car almost auto braking. This is with a wheel and pedals.

I'll do a few laps today and record them to see if the issue comes back.

Small improvements on Monza after 1hour..
Sitting at 1.26.744 with an optimal of 1.26.154....
No chance for gold so I'm letting this one slip 👋

First session with the Hyundai. 🚢
Gold with 1.38.372 what was a top-1000 at the time. (No illusion of holding that!!) Optimal is 1.38.0 so a 37 is in the cards! 🔥

I don't have too much time for TTs, maybe 4-5 hours a week not equally spread over the days. Therefore I have even less time for Sport Mode.
It happens here and there that I jump in, maybe for a good car-track combo + favorable week in terms of availability.

Having said that...

TTs are really helping me a lot. Now it takes very less time to get "acceptable" and "consistent" times (even though for me consistent is still x+-0,3s). Time aside, I am more consistent with markers lines and controls and quicker to adapt to different cars. This widen the range of recoverable errors, very useful in sport mode.
On the other side, pushing for the TT or going to close to the limit in sport mode narrows it, and consistency worsten.

All of this helps in Sport Mode. I am still a kerbstone, but at least I am a more regular kerbstone and build on overaggressive people errors.

In the end I think you can call it experience, and you can build it even just in sport mode and without the TTs, but maybe the TTs put less variables in play and give a lot more info because of the community to make the growth path more efficient. In sport mode I am more conscius of it when I'm getting too away from the standalone rithm than before, it's now a more controlled choice, and (once survived to Lap1-Turn1) this helps a lot.

As for Monza, same here but I’ll say this again.. this is one of those trials with the strange tyre grip glitch.. anyone struggling for grip just quit to menu then restart rather than just hitting retry during the trial. I’ve found even ONE retry can result in a major loss of grip that seems to stay, like you reset and it ‘forgets’ what tyres are fitted.. I still don’t know exactly how this happens but it’s definitely happening!
I've been testing this out for a while I'm pretty sure this is a real phenomena. The game seems to occasionally "remember" loss of grip between retrys after hitting gravel/sand etc.

My thumb hurts from having to press the overtake button every corner for 80 miles straight, but I was rewarded in the end with a purpled lap!! 😎

Weak ABS. I was able to be much more consistent at taking the first corner when I started using the speedometer as the braking point, as opposed to a visual marker. (Just as you reach 145mph).

Oof...this car has overtake?? lol...OK well there's something for me to try next session.
I did not realize at first until I watched @Tidgney lap guide video. Thx man.
This Hyundai is a little strange to drive but you have to understand how it works, it is not unpleasant to drive.
I like it! Yes it is weighty and I can feel that through the wheel and the brakes are terrible but actually pretty good. What I mean is that it takes a long time to slow but it is consistent and predictable. I also find the car easy to rotate and control the direction by dancing on both brake and throttle at same time.

I think it could become quite the fun machine. People just need to give it time.

Gradually getting faster at Monza, the Gold time looks more in reach now I've chopped off a second over the last day and am now in the high 1:25's. I've focused on getting on the power earlier across the board and trying to get some flow through 2nd Variante but I'm still slow out of the 1st Variante (I don't know how @Tidgney is so fast out of there) and struggling to not hit the kerb at the 2nd Lesmo, well either that or run wide while trying to avoid the kerb. The rest of the lap seems relatively comfortable now, fingers crossed for more improvement
