Thanks for the context. I used to start every TT with TCS 2 and CSA Strong (TCS all the way back to GT3 Weeklies here), but I've been trying to reduce my reliance on them, so recently I've been trying to start mostly with ABS Weak and no other aids. It feels more intuitive for my poor-man versions of Tidgney's laps, and I think it's helping me improve throttle control and braking inputs, but clearly I have a ways to go yet.

To answer Dolph's question, I think Alsace suffers from feeling like a made up track. You sorta feel Gardens or Seaside or Trial Mountain could be real but Alsace and i'd include Depp Forest have a pretend feel to them. Alsace also has not apexes, i mean that isn't true but it feels like you just float along the whole time and I have trouble memorizing it.

Man I love this car ...

Not only am I in the top 100 for now (which makes it two out of two, never had that before!), but getting there was, at the risk of sounding cocky, almost ... easy. Not in the sense that I could casually phone in a lap while chatting with the wife. It commanded full concentration. But so far there was none of the usual grinding, countless invalidated laps, swearing at lottery corners etc. Just smooth and steady progression.

Did I mention that I love this car? Because I do! I really do! ❤️

Happy Valentine's Day lapping, folks!

Sometimes it just clicks 😌

Sometimes I get torn between keeping a Ghost 'On' & 'Off'. Keeping it on can surely guide you & help you better the time but I also feel at times it can distract especially in turns where precision is the key.

Does anyone keep switching Ghost mode? And do you mostly keep a top 10 driver's ghost as a mode of inspiration to better your time?

I have the ghost on/off mapped to a button on my wheel so I can switch as the situation warrants. I usually follow a few different top 10 ghosts to start, and by the end of a TT I am following the fastest available. I start with Offset 0 seconds to give me longest runway of seeing what they're doing in each sector, then ramp up to 0.1-0.3 when I find my car closer to the ghost at the end of each sector. Some other drivers try to follow the slowest ghost they can find who's a bit quicker than their current time.

I personally take the same approach as I do for daily race QT, fast ghost (top 10-100) set it .3 in front and generally work on keeping it as close as possible through the laps(s).

We never get close enough that it becomes an issue other than sometimes the first corner or two where I can brake fractionally better. After that they usually are a tantalising rabbit just far enough away to see lines and brake lights but no danger of hitting them.

This all hinges on the TT though as cars and combos aren't all made equal nor is my motivation.

I don't reset sectors (personal preference, and also don't use my own ghost)

I left the ghost mapping to the standard up press on the weird knob on my DD Pro which is the default mapping to controller directional pad up ^

Edit:

I found this a lot more difficult than I thought I would to get gold.

Here is the lap (VR following Hollo)

Gran Turismo 7 VR TT Gold at Alsace following Hollo

Edit 2:

As is always the way, step away for a smoke and cup of tea come back and before the video is even processed go and improve a fair bit!

Epic time buddy, and so good to see that with totally different settings in terms of TCS and CSA you again slide into top 100, very well done!!
You are far out of my reach on this combo, I think a high 53 is possible for me but no way a .6
I took the day off from GT yesterday. Sometimes you just need a break. :) I debated tonight whether I wanted to try out the new TT. I like the car, but I'm one of those that's never really enjoyed Alsace. I couldn't really tell you why. At least the Porsche makes it tolerable. Anyway, I had pretty good 1st sector on my fast lap but gave up a tenth in sector 2 and nearly the rest of my advantage in the final sector. :grumpy:

Nice!

I watched the top replay and the amount of rotation he gets is no way reachable for me for some reason, maby it's the pad I don't know....

But it's a fun drive for sure!

Little improvement this session but no mr miracle lap shenanigans 🤣🤣

Managed a 38.4 out of nothing in the Hyundai earlier. Very odd car. Also can't put it in reverse, so try not to crash.

The Porsche might take longer. The gearing is stupid and it understeers a lot.
Well sometimes the gearing might take a while to get used to, just keep plugging away at it and you'll improve your lap within no time. Good luck this weekend. Have you tried using the manual transmission yet? You can save more time by doing so. Take for example, @Dolph Drago

He uses MT but has also been using a Dualsense controller for quite a long time now. Watch his replays to get an idea of how to get an even lower lap time. And pay attention and take note of what his Sector times are so you'll know if you're on the right track or not.

When seeing the no. 1 ranked players onboard replay, I noticed the ABS light turning red without brake being applied at certain turns & before the apex. It came to my realization that he was using the handbrake efficiently to stop faster before the apex.

Seems we need to master the application of the handbrake. But this doesn't undermine the skills of the top ranked players even if they use the handbrake because it's a skill to master at the end.

..... I'm looking forward to seeing it, I'll keep an eye out, good luck with it!
Here you go mate, it's on my profile or search 'JB Racing' I had to change a couple of decals. Some of the lines are slightly out (I'm blaming the editor!). Still, I'm pretty happy with it, hope you enjoy  (out of interest, it appears that this actual car switched in 1998 to the black Playstation livery I created the other day under the Labre Competition team in France!)

My typical routine is to do a few reconnaissance laps without ghosts or watching any videos. Then I'll typically use @Tidgney ghost (mainly because my driving style is similar albeit slower) and my own PB ghost until I get consistently quick enough to be in and amongst or ahead of my own ghost, then I'll switch the PB Ghost off and just use Tidgneys. If I find I'm getting consistently caught up in his ghost (rare :D) I'll toggle it on/off with the DS5 touchpad. I don't use the offset ghost option as I find it distracting.

You can't use the handbrake in TTs or daily races.

The reason you only see the red bar is that GT replays don't show both parts just the pressure.
Both parts as in a brake application line & ABS? When he would brake, the Red line would go higher but this would be independent to the ABS application (ABS lighting up full Red).

This image is from a console capture which captures exactly what the player sees in real time

Edit:

@KK78 some TTs typically rally cars do enable the handbrake but they are rare like the rally cross at cataluna and some of the snow ones not sure about the eiger one but that was the Impreza rally car one?

In the first image you can see the ABS light 'On' & even the Brake Applied a little (Red bar visible). What I noticed is that the ABS light would only turn Red briefly before the brake getting applied which is understood when the Red bar moves up displaying the force of the brake applied.

Yes, it was the rally one and what you say makes sense, it was in that TT with the rally Hyundai at Lake Louise

The ABS light only comes on (and flashes sometimes) when ABS is triggered. There are 2 in game settings for ABS Default and Weak changing the setting changes when the ABS will trigger and how quickly and hard you initially brake.

Nice, I'll give that livery a definite fire-like!! So what is your master plan for the new TT's? Yeah, I stopped using the ghost option too because it always got me distracted and off-guard from keeping my eyes on the road. I try to use the replays with the most detail, not about speed.

Well, the gears should always work if you time it right with MT, AT does it by itself. So anyone will be slower using that gearing option. Slower drivers will most likely complain more than the faster ones.

It feels like they're all really short. I'm not really getting into a rhythm with the car yet.
I have the complete oppositie.... I think they are quite long and I am more working against the oversteer instead of understeer ( and the lack of rotation on the pad ) 🤣

Just don't overdrive it, trailbraking is key here to prevent the most understeer and 3th out iss your best friend 🤪

@Chris30 you gotta start a company with tiles to hang on the wall with those fact frases of yours 🤣

@stpatty Great work, remember if you get frustrated on the track, take a break for a while and pace yourself, don't do what I did and do 100 laps in a row with no progress. Like Einstein said, insanity is doing the same thing over again and again and expecting different results. You do different techniques/follow top drivers replays and you will get even better results; that's the way it goes.
