First stint on the kart at BH.

Need to find how to take each turn and be a bit consistent and gold should be easy.

Best lap close to gold, optimal well inside gold.

Alright fellas all jokes aside, this is surprisingly enjoyable and I had a blast in my first session. @TheNormsk trick of setting wheel to 720 degrees was my first port of call, I didn’t even try with it at its normal setting (wait, I didn’t check what ‘normal’ was before changing it ahhh) but I can really imagine that helping here (maybe?) does it slow the steering down or speed it up aaahhh. Anyways, big trouble with GT7 feedback is still here; the steering is way too light for something this twitchy, anyone who has ever driven a kart will know how heavy the steering is and without that weight it’s very challenging especially as the slightest over input results in a spin. So max torque set to 10 in game to give me a fighting chance.

But yeah it’s pretty good, a lot of fun carrying so much momentum and it’s very immersive in VR if not a bit headache inducing..

I’m not up to @bliprunner ’s level but it’s a good start!

I’m at 420, that’s what I used for the recent Eiger Nations race. Found it easier to catch slides without being fired off the track.

Steering is a bit light but otherwise a really fun drive!

I had a quick run around Brands in the kart last night just in the general track TT mode and found it really pretty fun...on the G29 wheel I felt like the FF weight was pretty good (just at my normal settings 5 torque/10 sensitivity) and reminded me a lot of what it felt like the couple times I've visited the local kart track.

I must be lucky as i get no headaches and I just love it in VR. In fact I tried it flatscreen as well and found it impossible to drive that way.

That’s really tight. I may tighten my steering a bit by bit as I get used to the kart. Perhaps 580 or 600 next.

The main issue I found in a few sighting laps is in VR you have no idea where you are in the Rev range, I know that the hand moves but it’s a little early just awkward to hit the sweet spot consistently.

I haven’t needed to change the rotational values but have maxed the torque and set the lowest FFB sensitivity and that’s helped a bit

It's fun but it isn't two weeks worth of fun. 😂
Not to be the negative downer I often feel like recently but what is two weeks worth of fun? If something’s properly fun I might stretch it to three sessions/three days but I feel like that’s the very max. One or two preferred. But I guess that’s a tad individual... I’ll admit I’m somewhat fatigued. Though perhaps you were kidding a bit. :P

Well, normally I have a few very short sessions throughout the period each trial is posted. Generally I'll spend an hour each evening or a few evenings a week, and progress slowly to my optimal. I have found that this game, for me, is just a puzzle and that it's really good for my brain. It destresses me a ton to play so when I get anxious I bury myself in it. I like having a constant to distract me and focus me.

That may sound ridiculous but it's true. I also am not at the point that some of you guys are and I struggle to find my time. I'm still learning. I know I'm relatively quick in some of these trials for sure but I also know there is a lot to gain still and when I like a combo I'll grind it.

Not to get too personal but I've had some added stress in my life recently (kids, man...) and it is a big help to keep me centered when I start the worry machine.

Cheers dude. I appreciate your ghost very much when it's available. There is always something to learn from you guys who consistently sit at the top of the boards 🔥

For every TT I put in as much time and laps I require to comfortably secure a Gold for its duration. The amount of time and effort varies by TT specs of course, but that's been my universal approach to them all. The Lancer/Nordwand TT is the outlier for me so far, in that I secured Gold way sooner than I expected; usually I can do it in my second day of runs but with Lander/Nordwand I did it on my second run. So I hadn't gone back to it since.

On the upside, the premature Gold got me to break my hiatus from Daily Races, and now I'm hooked on TTs and the Dailies. 😝

We'll see how much time I'll need for the kart/Brands TT. But if I do bag the Gold sooner than expected again, I'll just shift my focus on coaching my 10yo to try it for his first TT, and maybe even grab his first GT medal. 😊

Guys hope you all are well! Took another break from the official TT (Too carried away by the friendly TT within my group, 650pp street cars at Lago and Nurburgring) but this Go Kart TT immediately drew me back. For some reason I was enjoying the ultra quick steering though it was absolutely horrifying in anything over 30mph (The entire lap basically).

I was aiming @Dan_Tes 's time on the friends leaderboard and thought I would be happy to get within 0.5s of his, but it turned out this is one of the rare TT that I just kept improving the more laps I did. Ended up 1/10th off but given how badly I messed up T2 I could definitely see a 49.2 somewhere...

The Kart is fun other than being insanely difficult without assists. I turned on all the nannies with TC set to 1 and got down to a 49.8 within 10 laps or so, probably a 49.6 in me but tbh I think that's 2 million credits in the bank so I'm good as I gotta finish my super mega license.

I took advantage of Happy Hours (doing TT on first day) at Gokarts to feel how it is to be in top 1000.
Even if that is just for few hours :)
I believe I can shave some tenths more as haven't watched any guides yet.

Gokarts are frustrating at first but become fun when used to.

Wheel settings can be changed back and forth and I still have bo sweet spot.

My observations from Tsukaba Daily and BH TT with kart is:
  • set higher lock like 600-720 to drive gently for TTs accepting any mistake spin is barely savable
  • I set lower lock 360-420 to have fun and be able to save the drifts (racing or fun).

This time it was
DD: 600deg
GT7: FFb 9 Sensitivity 10

The Kart is an interesting ride, but you need some seat time or it feels alien. You need to get on the gas basically all the time if possible, even if 5pc, because if revs drop you get soaked for time. Once 5 or so laps in and you realise what you need to do you can have fun. Here's one from the dailies a few months back, pretty jolly time tbh, even if I did find a way to go from 1st to last ont he last corner of the race.......

That’s why I found automatic to be quicker. Either I was bouncing off the rev limiter or changing up too early with manual.

The auto seems to change at around the 14.7-14.8 mark so perhaps it’s leaving a few HP on the table but it’s better than what I was doing.

The karts are undriveable for me on motion steering.

The slightest movement translates to full lock.

I have got the new wheel and used it a few times on the PC now, which is why I haven't been active on here for a while.

Think I will probably do the kart TT with it though.
I can actually confirm what you say. it's not possible to drive at all. If I tilt my controller 3 degrees it's literally full lock. So tiny steering angle is just not possible to do. I literally can't finish the lap. I usually gold all other TTs in first session.
I guess this should actually be reported as a bug, but we all know how difficult it is to report something to PD. I personally don't have energy to report one more bug. It took way too much time and energy first time when I was reporting about second player in split screen mode....

Tried all controller settings, ASM, CS strong...tiny difference, undrivable at all.

PD have you actually tested it???

Updates from the Great North of England, secured my 2 million credits as the Gold stuck like poo to a puppies bottom overnight, improved at Eiger by 4 tenths and almost broke the 50-second barrier in the 4-wheeled wasp at Brands Hatch

It always helps when the team mascot is directing the racing strategy!

I can't confirm with any publication using my Google-Fu, but just by the in-game engine note (and power delivery) I'm guessing the 125cc engine in the kart is a 2-stroke. So yeah, peak power only exists in the upper rev range, and it's basically non-existent below that. 😝

With all the physics and controller adjustments PD had been making, I hoped you would prove me wrong as it was a long time ago I last tried a kart but guess it still hasn't changed then.

This does make me also think that this is why we struggle more with race cars than road cars, as the higher uo the racing chain you go the less steering angle they have and this is translated to the gyro angle.

Looks like this may be my first test of the T598 on GT7 then.
