I'm still confident! Apart from polish Christmas music, a few jazzy Christmas tunes and the dreadful and horrible Mariah Carey song, but apart from that, easy!

And I now consider myself double whammed. Even when you listen to a mix on YouTube, you'll just get ads with wham in it.

edit:

Scratch that I'm tripple whammed. My colleague turned on the radio. Looking at the way this is going i have to re adjust my goals to hear it less than 10 times this year

I hope this is as accurate (and amusing) as I think it is.

Well, after a decade, and thanks to a Tweet from Romesh Ranganathan, it's gone mainstream. At least two national radio stations are now playing it, and there's an "official Whamageddon" website. Wikipedia reckons it first appeared online in 2012 (no) - and in fact, it's so mainstream that there's a Wikipedia page for it.

Since George Michael's died as well, I propose we move to a new song from 2019.

Specifically, I propose "All I Want for Christmas is You", by Mariah Carey - because it has an extremely distinct intro sequence, and also because we can call it the Apocareypse.
Right on cue

So this just came up on my Youtube feed.

Didn't click on it. I'm pretty certain it still counts as a wham even if the second and fourth beats are swapped.

Not part of this whamming, but my wife is already out of her FB competition. Due to my daughter's school "Carols after dark" show.

@TJ13 Don't trust local markets, as we have learned year after year. I'm out, entered a local market to go to the bakery and was met by the cursed lyrics.

Was it fresh baked?
To be fair, I am surprised I lasted this long. My work takes me through a lot of different businesses, offices, work sites and the like, and I made it nearly halfway through December.

Didn’t sign up, but for the record I just got whammed in the middle of a six-hour bus journey. Nowhere to run, nowhere to hide...

I forgot to sign up, dang it.
Funny story though. A local talk show mocked the song, I called them out for Whamming me on the shows closed group FB page. They called me out on the show the next day and Whammed me again!
Screw you Eric!
Funny enough, there is a story behind Eric telling me to screw myself but that's for a whole nother subject.

Workplace is playing the Christmas music now. Haven't heard Last Christmas (any version) yet but someone did randomly song part of the chorus and it threw me off guard. Going by some of my past runs I'll probably get hit late in the month.

I never remember to declare it, but I always partake in Wham avoidance. Successful thus far, but today is a Christmas shopping day...

Got nailed again its only the forth time this year if been whammed. Again by car radio although this time I took @PASM down with me. Everything's better when you can drag somebody down with you

@TJ13

Well managed to make it this far this year... avoided the song in every shopping center, at work, in the car.... the finale was getting attacked by Bridge and her Apple Watch in a Honda CRV at 1:12am est....

She had been planning this for weeks and had it added to her playlist for over a week now... Whammed by a Bridge :-(...

Eight days until Christmas as I type this and I can see Wham being played more frequently. If I get taken out it'll probably be this week, especially since I have a trip to get model supplies planned.

I doubt it - we weren't even the origin of it. Best I can tell @RouWa brought it here from another forum.

The origin is some punk rock forum. I don't know the URL, but the guy who introduced the challenge in the German gaming forum where I got it from said it was introduced in 2003.

https://www.whamageddon.com/ is new to me. They play the "easy" version (December 1st to December 24th) and don't want participants to wham other participants on purpose. Whamming on purpose is the best thing about the whole challenge. The later, the better.
