You don't need a team to compete although it would be recommended. All you need to put down is your PSN, GTP, the car you will use, the colour it will be in and team name( if any).

I'm sure that there are people out there who want a teammate for the season.

This is pretty sweet but I really hope they add another track or two ASAP. All this 'DLC every two months' hype has amounted to a 4 dollar, 4 car pack... Bit disappointed.
