I'm not really into on soft shadows and stuff like that, like the one from stumpydino. But I respect your work on that, must be hard to do that!

i started doing that cos noone else was, and i got fed up choosing which tones to use from the pictures for a straight vector, and now i like to contrast the strong lines with the smooth shading 👍

Depends what you mean by 'vector' but if you just mean creating pics that look like what Stumpy does, then yes Elements should be fine, except that it doesn't have a Pen Tool i believe, which sucks.
