Top drag tunes and tips for free!!!

Haha I remember it well when a young, scared little viper first came up against me.. I think I heard him cry when I thrashed him by that much.... LOL JK
Nahh viper was a good noob.. He asked how he could improve other then just ask for a tune.. Wanted to know what changing the spring rate or dampers did to a car.. That's why I took him under my wing and taught him what I knew 👍 now that I'm leaving GT5 drag racing, I'm glad I could bring myself and a mate up to the status of "pro".. I'm really glad I joined GTP.. Initially it was to get a tune for the B-Spec NASCAR championship and then I saw something that changed my gaming life forever.. DRAG RACING!! and after seeing the big names of Slashfan7469 or whatever your name use to be, DaLighninRacer, Mafia-boy, and kennyblanco I decided that I was goin to start dragging.. So using a few of DLR & Slashfans's base tunes I started my little career in dragging.. After putting a few base tunes on my favorite 10 cars I tool them into split screen to decide which was fastest.. It went 1st was the RS6 Advant 2nd was the LMQ then went my 458 Italia.. Then after I took my 3 cars online and got my ass handed to me.. I kept playing around with the tunes.. I could seriously go on for hours about how I started dragging.. But the moral of the story is if you go asking for tunes you will be fast for 1 week.. But learn to tune and you will be hard to beat for a while.. I never stopped trying to find a faster way of tuning.. I am still learning new things every run I make down SSRX..

nice, I started with the r34, and even with my little knowledge I was surprising a few guys  but there were always the faster people that got me. Then after that I managed to work out second gear launching for RWD high power cars.

With the combine help of base tunes, and matt here I am today.

haha I remember when my LP640 and 670 ran equally at indy which was equal to my average skyline. My ACR was a car ahead. After trying some unorthodox techniques my GTS was my fastest car and it stayed that way for ages.

ps matt, should we open a CACRATs garage? or not since we'll both be gone soon

Stay in school. This kind of posting makes you look illiterate. If English was your second language then this would be understandable. But the flag in this guys post suggests he's from the good ol' US of A. And with English being the primary language of our country this just looks bad. Its sad that kids can figure out how to navigate the internet but can't hold a comprehensible conversation. This is your tax dollars hard at work America. 👍

Nice speech troll brother 👍

Todays tip is simple-trial and error. It is an effective way to learn how to tune. Once you learn what effects different settings have on your cars performance, you can pretty much make a decent tune for anything. My suggestion would be to buy a car, add only the fc suspension and start tuning, making only one adjustment at a time. This may seem tedious and unnecessary, but can pay big dividends in the future if you want to continue to learn to tune and get faster. Once you have your suspension dialed in you can use that as a starting point for future tunes. The few hours I spent testing when I got ssrx have saved me much more time since then by having a good base set-up. Once you apply your base set-up to your new tune you can make any adjustments you need to improve your tune. Having a good base to build on is far better than going off shooting in the dark.

Todays tip- Transmission tuning. When using the tranny trick try flipping it at different points. You will find that the lowest top speed doesn't always produce the best results, especially with low hp cars. Try instead of using the minimum number, use one that's 2 or 3 above minimum- e.g. if the minimum top speed available is 99, try flipping it at 124 instead. And oppsed to making your first gear as long as possible try shortening it if you are bogging. Get creative when you're tuning. Experiment, you may find a setting that works better than what conventional wisdom says to use. Always be willing to try different methods and remember that drag tuning consists of alot of trial and error. You may stumble upon something golden. 👍

You should make an all new thread just for tips and tricks like this. It would be nice if no one would respond so the thread so it would stay on topic. Keep 'em coming Mr. Blanco. ;)

My main objective to posting here is to keep this thread alive so to cutdown on the flood of posts asking for tunes that are already contained in this forum. I think it has been mostly a success. There haven't been nearly the amount of requests clogging up the forum lately. Anyone is free to contribute tips or tunes here if they wish. Any and all help is welcome and greatly appreciated.

Now all we need is a proper leaderboard >here< so we won't have so many "what's your time for this car" threads, which I am guilty of several of lol. I'd make one myself, but my ps3 doesn't have the capacity to perform the daunting task(especially since my edit button no longer works), and unfortunately is my primary means for web browsing atm.

Don't flame me, I'm aware of the leaderboard and use it for reference frequently. I appreciate all the hard work and dedication that goes into updating and maintaining it. But not everyone is aware of its existence. I've been waiting for Mafs to open the speed center he is working on.

I think you should change the title of this thread, so it gets more attention.

Not sure what could be a good name, I'll try to think of something.

How about something along the lines of "Top drag tunes and tuning tips for free" ? It's the free tunes that bring 'em in and the good advice that keeps 'em coming back

Lol this is like the conversation on page 1 and 2.. Like Kenny said.. He is mainly posting tips to keep the thread from falling and to also give people tips and advice that hey may not know already.. The name is so it draws in all those "could I please have the best tune you have and call it mine" (sometimes we don't even get a please...)

Yeah. Something around the lines of "Tips & Tricks For Dragging".

Thing is, if you keep the name as is, when people check it once and they don't find the "top drag tunes for free" they'll stop checking the thread even if there's new posts. Because they know it's not what they thought it was.

Honesty is the best policy, in my opinion :)

Aahhhh, but this thread does contain the some of the best tunes gtp has to offer. There are links to them in one of the 1st posts. Misleading, maybe. Lies, no. I understand the point you are trying to make though. I will add to the title that we provide general tips as well. But I do believe this thread generally serves it's purpose, which was to cut down on the clutter of "give me 'x' tune.' I started this thread as a rant to be honest and it ended up being somewhat helpful in the process. So I guess it ended up being a win for everyone. But as Matt said, my main reason for trying to post here daily is to keep the thread alive and easily found. Because we all know that if people don't find what they are looking for in the 1st few threads they just start a new one. This makes navigating this forum a mess. The fact that I keep posting tips is simply to stay relevant to the topic to avoid getting this thread closed. I enjoy helping people and all, but I generally said all I had to say within the 1st few posts.

Either way, I want the tips more than I want the tunes.

^This is the type of people that will benefit most, the ones who are willing to put forth the effort to learn to tune on their own. I enjoy helping people that want to be helped not spoonfed. The people coming here just looking for tunes are just going to keep doing the same once they realise that whatever tune they got isn't the fastest EVAR and clogging up the forum. People that are trying to learn to tune are going to evolve and continue to get faster. Those are the people I like to help because they will help to push drag racing foward. But I do my best to provide helpful information to any and everyone.

/End rant.👍

I'm at a point where whatever I change is solely for my launch. So rather than doing a run and watching my ghost, as soon as I see my 0-60 time I either restart, retune or continue based on how many runs I have done and what my other times were.

You can usually tell by then if you are going to have a good run based on your previous runs. I usually go ahead and run it out though because sometimes I am working on my launch and other settings simultaneously. I've had slower 0-60 times and came out faster in the 1/4. I just try to combine those adjustments together to get the best results. I've gotten rather bad at keeping notes though and sometimes my tune suffers from it. Theres nothing like nailing a perfect run and switching setting sheets to try to squeeze a little more out of it only to lose track of what you have done.

Which leads me to the tip of the day. Keep some sort of notes. For the above stated reason. 👍

I remember your quote one change at a time too. Lol I always followed that even when I was new

Yeah, I'm pretty bad at that too. I make multiple adjustments to deal with multiple problems sometimes, like making my gears tighter to get rid of lag and softening up my springs to get a better launch. I gotta tighten up and start practicing what I preach, huh?

Todays tip- race against people that are faster than you. If you get beat, take it on the chin and keep it moving. No need fooling yourself. It don't mean anything if you can beat a room full of noobs. Beating a good tuner or having a close race with someone you know is faster than you is a million times more rewarding than defeating armies of noobs. This is the best way to guage your skill and to get better. You are always going to run into someone faster than you. The best thing to do is learn from it and try to get better.

Yup like how I race you and slash 👍

Not being cocky or anything but that's why it sucks running against Aussies.. I very very rarely come up against someone faster then me.. And in American lobbies I lose due to lag..

I can only imagine. I know its gotta suck. Have you ever tried running tunnel?

From my experience there aren't many Aussie tunnellers. I gave it a go once or twice and got utterly smashed by d2 and dr slump (like 3 lengths plus per car) one time and the other I ran bugattis.

Up until recently there was no competition for Matt and myself on the 1/4, but now that Australian drag racing is on the pick-up, they're all cocky and fit many of PTK's player types.
