hey, I've caught some episodes of Top Gear(I'm used to Fifth Gear), when they say "The Stig" are they referring to Stig Blomqvist? like the famous, fast rally driver from years ago? if so, I thought he died in a rally accident. or are they just paying homage to him?

The "Stig" is some unknown driver who is supposedly very good. He hides under white fireproofs and this wicked-cool helmet that I need to get. I can't imagine that under the white stuff there's anyone too famous, coz they'd want to be on TV. I reckon it's secretly Jezza Clarkson.

when i first saw top gear i thought it was Jenson Button.. due to the alpine star white fireproofs... but obioously he wouldnt have the time to test drive cars whilst on the Formula one circus... damon hill seems a likely option

Damon Hill is a bit suspicious because the one episode he was on Top Gear he drove a Suzuki or something around the track and he got the best time (better than Jimmy Carr), but then Jeremy Clarkson put him on a seperate board because he was an F1 driver. But still I doubt Damon Hill is the Stig, and definetly not Jeremy Clarkson because his best time is worse than Jimmy Carr's...

"From assembled evidence" from those who have attended I can confirm that Damon has been the Stig at least once, but that the Stig is no one man - his identity varies week-to-week. I'm led to believe they have 3 or 4 regular drivers, though I'm not aware of their names.

Most F1 drivers are of under-average height. Remember Justin Wilson? 6'2" (3" above average) and he had to have his car specially made to fit him in.

The stig is some random race driver from England, I read who he was in the paper ages ago. It's no one I've ever heard of. In short, it isn't Damon Hill or any of the Topgear team.

I think this is the 4th time I've said this now.

That was the FIRST Stig - Perry McCarthy. The current Stig is not the first Stig - he was "killed off" driving a Jaguar XJS on the flight deck of an aircraft carrier.

All cars are/were specially made to fit the driver.

No, the cars arn't made to fit the driver, the seat, wheel and pedals positions are changed to fit the driver. Justin Wilson needed a car with a larger cockpit full stop, they had to re-design the car for him to fit in, shifting the pedals as far back as they could go didn't provide enough space.

Yes, Hands up for the Top Gear track! Infact I remember asking that for GT4 also "b4 GT4 was released, somewhere "What do you want in GT4" thread. But that got overlooked. And I am sure, so will this...

Anyway, about "The Stig", I doubt they're some (few) different drivers. I am sure it is someone on the lines of Perry McCarthy only.. There are plenty of eX Touring Car drivers lying in Britain, I am sure its not someone famous.. And probably they'll never even disclose who it is / was..
Initially I thought it could be Jason Plato, but then now that he's on Fifth Gear, i'm sure it isnt him..

I suppose it's only going to be used for time trial and well testing your car's ability. There is no way you can possibly race on that track considering that the cars would intersect each other at the Chicago sections and Followthrough.
