Will Hoy..

1995 was the last time he had a season that was anywhere near competative.

The '96 is my favorite Laguna, followed closely by the '98. The green/gold combo is pretty damn sexy I have to say, but it would look much better without the big yellow area on the bumper. They should've made the "RENAULT" lettering yellow instead.

I do have a soft spot for the 98 car, mainly because of this:

And now, if you will, a minute's silence for the TOCA series, which got steadily worse after TOCA2 (TOCA WTC was fun too, but after that it was all downhill). I don't even know what they call the series these days.

I'm not sure I ever enjoyed a racing game more than TOCA2 actually. That and the first Colin McRae rally game were the first two I ever got when I first got a PSX. Pivotal point in my life at 13 years old.

Edit: Gratuitous 1998 BTCC press shot:

I am so with you. I still play one and two to this day. Hugely enjoyable games, and there is a fair amount of realism for 1998. Just try and win the championship on expert. I still maintain it's one of the most difficult things to do in video gaming.

After WTC we had TOCA Race Driver, which featured the 2001 season but was a poor game overall. After that, we've had no official BTCC game. 11. Whole. Years.

I went a step beyond that once. TOCA 2 had a cheat code called "propellerhead" I think, which gave realistic-length races too - that, plus expert difficulty, was brilliant. Thruxton was a nightmare to start the season with, so difficult to avoid being punted off!

I remember 'longlong' supposedly giving 40 lap races but I don't think it actually worked. Selecting full championship on TOCA 1 gave you the actual race lengths straight away. That was a nightmare to finish! I'll bear propellerhead in mind next time I play.

Thruxton. There's something about the cars on expert mode whereby they simply batter you out of the way at turn 1 of every course without spinning while you end up in the gravel. Redgate at Donington was really difficult. And as for Paddock Hill...

I played this game so much! :dopey: If I'm correct I still have it, would it work on the PS3?? I was only 8 years old when this game was launched. Luckily my dad is a petrolhead too so he bought it for me :D And I was always in the Renault.. :embarrassed:

WTCC is the only one I can follow on tv.. How do you guys follow BTCC? I did a quick search and on the official BTCC website theres 'media', but I have to register first. Can I watch it there or..? I tried ITV but I'm out of the UK so it won't allow me to watch it..

The code I mentions only applied to 2, which didn't have full race distances unless you did the cheat. I also remember doing a full season in 2-player mode with my brother, that was good fun.

Not sure I'm afraid, it's on ITV4 for UK residents but not sure how to get it from elsewhere.

And yep, TOCA 2 should work on PS3 :)

TOCA 2, my favourite game ever! Inspiration for my GTP Touring car series! ~Nostalgia Attack~

As a Rydell/Volvo fan I think I've found heaven...

Rydell's cars from '94, '96 and '98.

The first race of WTCC in Valencia wasn't all that exciting like in Monza. There were a couple of tries on overtaking and finally the BMWs can really show what they can finally do. Mueller wins the first race followed by Tarquini who barely gets the second place from Coronel in third.

Missed the first race. Not been too enthralled by WTCC for several years now, but I'll catch the second race as it's marginally better than watching the BTCC support races.

Wow. Where were those taken, a Volvo museum in Sweden?
Yes, the Volvo museum in Gothenburg (the brand's hometown). I've never been there but it seems pretty impressive. They also have the Group-A 242 Turbo, as well as the Group-A 760 Turbo prototype.

I am not happy with Menu's blocking there. He should be penalised!

The Chevys were melting today while the BMWs looked extremely strong!

Found the WTCC race a bit tedious to be honest. Bit of excitement when everyone hit the oil or whatever was on the circuit, but just didn't have much through-the-field action. Maybe my expectations are too high from following the BTCC!

I'll agree with you on this. I think one of the reason is because everybody is playing safe whilst in BTCC you're free to do a little bumping and aggresive overtakings. In WTCC, you'll have a risk of having a penalty for those mentioned. Proven today when Coronel bumps a little with Tarquini in Race 1 and Coronel received a white-black flag. To me, is very unnecessary. They instead, should've looked into the dangerous blocking by Menu!

The too-superior performance of the Cruze didn't help either, with them winning races and dominating for almost 2 years already. To be fair, the mid-field and Indipendent racing is still very good to watch. But then, everybody is playing really safe.

WTCC's biggest problem is some of the tracks they visit, they're not great touring car tracks at all - where as some of the BTCC tracks are great for touring cars.

i love chevrolet cruze, i hate all bmw tc

I love all BMW touring cars, and hate the Chevrolet Cruze.... so it all balances out ;)

Like Monza?

Monza is rubbish for anything other than F1, I was watching the Italian V8's from Monza earlier on, Tonio Liuzzi did preety good!... but as a track for tin-tops, it's pap.

LMS was good when they went there.

Who has BTCC event pictures? Here I am demonstrating my youth. It's 2003.

This first one is from a general day at Oulton. The Cupra Cup was on, and in retrospect I now realise that Plato was there in his role advising Seat prior to 2004.

Future champion Colin Turkington. Also got snapped with Warren Hughes, but Anthony Reid wasn't around the garages. That was kind of disappointing.

Having lost the title in race 1, an early retirement for Thompson in race 2 was not what he wanted. Or me and my dad being the first members of the public to approach him. Good sport. He could have been a right knob about it.

There's a direct correlation between the speed of a series and how good they are at Monza. The circuit is far too wide and fast for touring cars.

This. As a result WTCC is usually plain boring to watch.
