I was invited to see the premier of the new Avensis today. It's a popular car over here, but maybe someone from this forum is interested too. I too wanted to see the new one, as the previous model was meh.

The new car looks way better both from outside and inside.

One of the new features is the Toyota Safety Sense that includes PCS- Pre-Collision System that detects obstacles and warns and can automatically engages the brakes. LDA- Lane Departure Alert that warns when you are crossing the line without the turning signal. AHB- Automatic High Beam that optimises the lights so they wont blind others. RSA- Road Sign Assist that displays the road signs on the screen.

Engines:
1.6l D-4D (6 m/t) - 112hp
2.0l D-4D (6 m/t) - 143hp

1.6l Valvematic (6 m/t) - 132hp
1.8l Valvematic (6 m/t or Multidrive S) - 147hp
2.0l Valvematic (Multidrive S) - 152hp

Trim levels:
Standard- 17 990 Eur
Active- 20 680 Eur
Active Plus- 23 270 Eur
Premium- 26 670 Eur

The car has all LED lights, so you don't have to worry about changing the light bulbs.

The interior is really nice. Everything is soft and feels good.

The boot is huge and the rear seats are pretty nice.
I didn't understood why the floor was uneven on the driver's place and the space between the B-pillar and the rear seat felt too small. Entering and exiting was awkward.
The sound system is good!

Still a really nice looking car. =)

Yeah I see that. What's it compare to in our market?

Wikipedia
The Toyota Avensis is a large family car built in Derbyshire, United Kingdom by Japanese carmaker Toyota since 1997. It is the direct successor to the European Carina E and is available as a four-door saloon, five-door liftback and estate. In Japan, the Avensis is exclusive to Toyota Netz dealerships, and serves as the largest sedan offered. A large MPV called the Toyota Avensis Verso (Toyota Ipsum in Japan and previously the Toyota Picnic in other markets) is built in Japan on a separate platform. The Avensis is not sold in North America, but is related to the Scion tC coupe. It also shares the Toyota "T" platform with the Toyota Premio and the Toyota Allion.

The Toyota Avensis was introduced in 1997, to create a more modern name when compared with the Toyota Carina E/Toyota Corona. The Avensis proved a sales success for Toyota Europe. Over the years, the Toyota Avensis has advanced in size, technology, power, and economy to challenge its worldwide-known rivals, such as the Mazda6, Ford Mondeo, Volkswagen Passat,[1] Opel/Vauxhall Insignia, Citroën C5, Peugeot 508 and Škoda Superb.[2]

Or you could have googled the name of the car, but I guess that would have been too much effort.

You could have just said a tC sedan.

Well, the one productive thing is that we now know that Toyota sells their cars in Japan through 5 specific retail channels. That is so weird.

But it's not a Tc sedan, it's much larger. It's based on the same platform but the Avensis is a size larger; the same size as an Insignia (Regal) Mondeo (Fusion), Mazda6, Passat, or Accord (Acura TSX).

It is in between the two in size, yes. The Camry is significantly larger and the Corolla somewhat smaller. However, it competes in the same segment as the Camry.

Length (mm):
Corolla - 4638
Avensis - 4695/4780
Camry - 4805

Width (mm):
Corolla - 1775
Avensis - 1810
Camry - 1820

Wheelbase (mm):
Corolla - 2700
Avensis - 2700
Camry - 2775

Height (mm):
Corolla - 1455
Camry - 1470
Avensis - 1480

And for the last :censored:ing time, it's not a Camry and it's not a Corolla.

Speaking of sizes and Corollas. The rear passenger leg space in the Corolla is a bit bigger and the noticeably big rear doors make enter and exit better.

Interesting. I'd wager that the Corolla is a slightly better family car, but that the Avensis is better to drive and probably available with more economical engines. They're both designed and built to totally different briefs (as this thread has shown), so the Avensis was likely designed with driver involvement and economy in mind to help it compete with the 3 series, while the Corolla needs a powerful engine, automatic gearbox, and flabbier experience to compete with the USDM Civic.

I don't know how is the ride quality in the current gen Corolla, but the last gen had a really hard suspension. The Avensis is a higher class with more ride quality and better sound insulation.

I guess that the Corolla is "sporty" while the Avensis is sporty.

Would much rather that then the Camry here, doesn't have the whitegood look of the interior and over-bloated exterior.

What Corollas have you been hearing...? The Corolla is rather quiet!
My mom's. 2008 Ford Focus, 2003 Dodge SX2.0, 2011 Hyundai Genesis coupe 2.0t, 2015 Hyundai Genesis Coupe 3.8, 1995 Toyota Camary, 1998 Toyota Corolla...

All of those have less road noise then the 2014 Toyota Corolla S, also the sunroof screams above 80km/h, so you can't use it on the highway.

Also apparently has "rail dust" on the doors...

+edit+
You know what, I'm not done yet.

The steering, brakes and accelerator all feel unresponsive to a terrifying extent.

The traction control is absolutely worthless. I should not have superior traction and control in a 348 HP, RWD sports car with all-seasons on in the snow, slush and ice then the 132 HP, FWD car with brand new winter tires.

It's fuel economy is also worse then the 154 hp Dodge Neon.

It's just a absolutely horrible car. I preferred the little Kia Rio service loaner.
