I'm surprised I haven't seen something like that running around my suburb.

Here's an obscure fact for you (bear with me - it needs setting up).

I live in a suburb in the inner west of Sydney, about 4 km or so from the city centre.

The suburb next to me, Rozelle, has the second highest rate of 4wd (and by that I mean truck 4wd, not Subaru Impreza 4wd) ownership in NSW.

Now, whilst a lot of people think Australia is predominantly bush, Sydney is a town of about 4 million people. The roads are crook, but we're talking about narrow roads here - some you're struggling to get a compact sedan down, let alone a freakin' truck.

The place is infested with diesel Land Rover Discoverys

And to this I say WHY? That thing must ride like crap with those rubberband tires. Some think it looks cool, I think it's just wierd.

It probably does ride really crappy...:nervous:

I'd be afraid to drive over a golf-ball sized rock with 26 inch wheels...:nervous: Those things would bend so easily...

I don't think it's cool, nor do I think it's weird, but if someone gave it to me I wouldn't complain, I'd pimp it...:D

I guess not many local garages would carry tyres to fit 26 inch rims, huh?

Now thats one tight ride. You may not think that looks right, but for me, I wouldnt have it any other way.
With as large as the wheel wells as are on the suv, the rims fit nicely and close the gap of the fenderwells.
If you think it looks gaudy, then the Monster trucks look more stupid.
They have rims as tall as 10 feet (Bigfoot).
In actuality, the larger the rim, the more contact patch you put to the ground and if the valving in the shocks/ stuts are set right, spring rates too, she should ride like a dream, no matter the streeet. :D
Just another view from the distance. Later.
Btw, Id trade 2 out of three of my cars for it. ;)
Happy Holidays.

The contact patch also depends on the size of the sidewall, seeing as how that defines how much the tire flexes before you hit the rim. I would say there would be little to no flex before you're rubbing the tire against the rim on this vehicle. It's also an extremely heavy suv, which will get you just that much closer.

Also, getting the tire/wheel closer to the wheel housing will be a bad thing, especially if you don't have enough sidewall to help cusion. The shocks are going to take the full brunt of any bump, and if the tire is already that close to the housing ... you're sure to be rubbing tire on the body.

As far as asthetics, the Landcruiser is a round bubly SUV with soft lines. Those tires don't even look right. They have thin, sharp, defined lines that generate rough edges in the middle of a soft looking car. Bad bad bad.

I referanced the sidewalls quite a bit there, but everything should be taken in moderation. These tires don't have enough, and my Honda has too much (:

And comparing this to a 'monster truck' .... come on man ....

pretty funny when you think about it.. that things got enough ground clearance to drive over all sorts of stuff, but due to the suspension/rims/tires, it can't drive over a piece of gravel! :D
