Its not looking too bad so far but, ehh..

It doesnt feel very "Supra" to me, i think its a bit too small, especially the wheels. The car seems very meh and forgettable to me as it currently stands.

Then again its pretty early, and I'm remaining hopeful for te time being.

Sure, the supreme tease was the FT-1. I'm just glad they're making the daggone thing.

The first two generations of the Supra are basically modified Celicas housing six-cylinder engines, it shouldn't be that surprising the Mark V Supra looks quite similar to the 86.

Tree'd

What is a Supra?

What are we doing on earth?
What is the meaning of life?
What is love?

Baby, dont hurt me, dont hurt me, no more.

But I'm not entirely sure, personally I think the MKIII Was when the Supra finally started to feel a lot more like its own car and less like a celica. Its diffiicult to explain the feeling.

At that point the Supra had to become its own car because the Mark IV Celica used to a front wheel drive platform.

It's that some people aren't too happy, with what the camouflage is revealing(how's that for an oxymoron?).
What we saw of the FT-86/FT-86 II and what the production car became, was a bit soft. I can understand some of the fear for the Supra, but really, Supra can go for another 4 generations, by starting slow with the Mark V.

Another thing to consider is that now that Toyota and BMW have agreed to share assets, they can leverage the upcoming Z4 platform which would probably be far cheaper than developing a bespoke platform that would be more comparable in size to the FT-1 concept. Yes, it is another case of a concept sports car becoming diluted, but at least Toyota is adding another exciting product to their lineup.

Smart play. Worked for the 86/BR-Z.

Basically a GT, sure it might have more performance then what one from the 90s would have but so does anycar today compared to then, this would more fall under the ethos of a Celica with RWD.

BMW Z4... Time Attack Edition? Perhaps not, but the Supra's open-top sibling has been spotted with front canards and what sounds to be the six-cylinder engine option.

The latest round of leaked documents suggest the next-gen Supra will not be getting a manual gearbox. :boggled:

As highlighted by Motor1 through this post on SupraMKV, the Z4/Supra will be offered with two four cylinder engines and a range topping 6 cylinder unit. Interestingly, you can still specify the Z4 with a manual gearbox on all engine options.

Rather interesting assuming its true because I just read that Toyota is patenting a Automated Manual Transmission.

I spoke to someone who works at the dealership where I bought my car, and he always drives with something you don't often see on the road. 5 years ago, he was driving around in a Supra targa. He then sold the car, which he infinitely regretted, and got an Audi SQ5 because of having a family while still needing something with poke.

I asked him about the new Supra, and he told me that he'd no idea when it's ever going to be launched, but he'll be getting one. I hope they put one up in the showroom when it does eventually launch.

Oh, and one of their customers is selling a Diablo VT from his car collection for 250,000 euros if you're interested. It's orange, and sitting next to a RAV4 and a Yaris

The Supra prototype continues to evolve, now featuring full-LED headlights

Not necessarily relevant to your post in particular FT-1, but I still can't get over how anyone with eyes could possibly draft up that front end design, look at it, and say "Yes, this is how the new Supra should look". And Toyota had such a good thing going for it when they did this:

I never really cared for the styling of the FRS/GT86 when it first came out, but after the front end redesign, I like the Toyota's look substantially more, and more than the BRZ (which I always thought had the better front). Wide center mouth, small(ish) vents on either side, and done. That simple. I know this is a render based on the FT-1, but something like this would be ideal:

THAT, at least in my eyes, looks proper. With the center grill being so narrow on that test car, it just looks wrong.

If that was the actual Supra, I would be taking a look at my bank account and think about cancelling the lease on my current car.

Look at the grill closely though.

There is a cover over those cut outs. Looks like a fake bumper cover.

Even that doesn't really fix the issues, though. What that one does well is that all three openings are roughly the same size width-wise, and they extend farther across the bumper. That's fine, but with the decreased height of the openings, it just serves to make it more sedate and boring. The aggression (albeit ugly aggression) has been replaced with ok-looking "meh". That's why I brought up the facelifted Toyota 86. That, to me, would be the ideal proportions to base this new Supra on. It shouldn't necessarily be a straight rip from the 86, but that would be the right base design to start from.

Unless that camo is packing some extra padding under it (could very well be) than I have to say the proportions of the new Supra look very ordinary, maybe even a little frumpy. The ancient 370z has a more exciting shape.
