Okay, if youre a product of the 1980's, I'm certain that you are ready for this movie to hit the silver screen. A few of the new cars were spotted today and recieved a matching press-release, so here ya go...

Leftlanenews.com
The Chevrolet Camaro Concept will star in the forthcoming “Transformers” movie, which is due for release on July 4th, 2007 (07-04-07). The film — which was first announced last year — is a collaboration between Paramount, DreamWorks, and Hasbro. Apparently, “Bumblebee” is going to start out as a 1970s Camaro, and then be rebuilt as a 2008/2009 Camaro. Meanwhile, “Starscream” is going to be an F-22 Raptor, and “Optimus Prime” is going to be a fire truck. Judging by the license plate on the new Camaro, tuner Saleen also has involvement with the project. A Saleen Mustang police car will also appear in the film.

Okay, so Optimus is an International Fire Truck, but where is Inferno, Ironhide, Red Alert, Side Swipe, etc?

As for the Decepticons, well, obviously they are taking some liberties with the movie by making the Mustang Police car a Decepticon. Most importantly, is Megatron going to be a vehicle or a gun? And besides Starscream, are we going to see any of the other jets? What about the other car guys like Breakdown, Dead End, and Wild Rider?

...My interest is peaked, how bout you?

Here is the story from Ain't It Cool News:

AICN
The Camaro variants belong to the lead character (Sam), who doesn’t know that his beloved car is, actually, a Transformer (Autobot) named Bumblebee.

We’ll see Sam finding & buying this car with his father, and follow him as he comes to realize there’s more to this humble vehicle than meets the eye. Said revelation will involve Sam in a battle between Autobots and Decepticons for possession of the precious Energon Cube – an object of unknown origin whose life force created the Autobots. The Energon Cube has been “lost to the limitless stars”, and arrives…by simple, elegant chance…here on Earth.

Bumblebee eventually has it out with a Decepticon named Brawl (the black police car linked below).

The Osprey aircraft are specified in a sequence set in Qatar, in which the U.S. military (ground troops, aerial) takes on a Decepticon named Skroponok in an epic battle. Quint recently visited the set in both Alamogordo and White Sands – he witnessed the Skorponok battle referenced above. He’s currently traveling to & setting up shop in New Zeland for a bit, but be sure to keep an eye out for his lengthy report in the near future.

Here’s another tidbit from a source, about Vortex – a transforming helicopter: “When the chopper lands in the film, it will have a CG cockpit that will have an entire crew inside of it. It will flicker out revealing that the chopper is, in fact empty - and "Vortex" will transform for the first time.”

Finally, I’m guessing the tank pictures are Devastator – a Tank Decepticon who wreaks havoc in the big-ass giant robot/thing brawl late in the filmlater in the film.

I’ve added a few more images BELOW – the newest links appear in BLUE.

OH! For those Talkbackers wondering about Megatron in this movie...Megatron is a JET in this draft of the script. There are indications that certain Transformers' names and/or "identities" may have/might still change, so I suppose there's a chance this might not stick. And, Optimus is a truck.

ENJOY! (and, thanks to Master Wiffo for the addition of his images, as well!)

GREAT SCOTT. they're trying a CG and live ver of the TF???

product of the eighties, indeed. however, by the time the TF got popular, I was allready in high school. you can't be 14 with your first moustache and still be caught playing with them :P

megatron changes his morph only a little less than prime does. most of the swaps were for "young" megaton in the CG series

COMPLETE BULLCRAP!

The energon cube? Energon cubes were made by the Transformers as a way to store power. Even the rest of the story doesn't make sense, or even come close to following the real story line behind the Transformers.

I can't believe they're making a live movie of the Transformers and completely trashing the basic characters! Octomus a firetruck? GAY! Bumblebee a Camaro? GAY! I'm a product of the '80's and therefore grew up with the Transformers, and this "lets make the characters completely different because no one will know the difference" attitude pisses me off. I'll watch it, but I won't like it as anything more then a cheap Hollywood knockoff. *Goes to watch the cartoon Transformers Movie*

I also have a small video of a test screening of one of the robots changing from a car to a robot beside a person. Its pretty cool, and they have the transformation down pretty good, but to me, its just not the same with them being different vehicles with a different story line. It'll just never feel like the real Transformers too me with all these faults.

I like the 70's Camaro as much as the next guy, but Bumblebee as Camaro is just WRONG! I wasn't a huge Transfomer fan, but even I know that Bumblebee's supposed to be a VW Bug! This is so retarded. What's next, Steve Martin in Pink Panther as Inspector Clouseau!?

Edit: Holy shiitake. I missed that Optimus Prime is a fire truck. Why do they even bother? In Japan, where the Transformer toys originated, Optimus was "Convoy". We called American semi trucks, "convoy trucks", at least when I was a kid. Translation of Optimus' name will hurt the feelings of Japanese Transformer fans indeed. :D

AICN says that Optimus Prime will be a TRUCK but they do not identify which one. I too would hope that he would be a Freightliner or Mac of some kind, but if he is a Firetruck, so be it. Was he not both at different times during the Transformers of the '80s and '90s (it was a long, long time ago)?

As for Bumblebee, yes, he sould be a Bug. But, with the Camaro, I'm not upset. It only confirms that the Camaro is going into production, and added to that, I suppose it looks like a bumblebee with the yellow and black stripes...?

But when AICN said that for all intensive purposes that Megatron is a JET, I got a little upset. Of course, I think he was a jet at some point (correct me if I am wrong, again... The '90s seem so far away), but as to what kind he would be today, it leaves me asking for more.

...Oh well, atleast they are making it I guess...

I'll have to do more research into this. Steven Speilberg is directly involved with this production and I dont' think he'd be stupid enough to use the "new" transformers for the basis of the movie. The first-gen Transformers are what the entire "culture" is about. Anything else is just stupid junk.

They shouldn't have mesed with the vehicles, but besides all cartoons based in fantasy realities go crap when someone decides to do a live action film of them, they always end up having the used and abused cop out "they end up on Earth" story, why, just why.

As far as I know, he was never a fire truck. He was always a transport truck, but you may be referring to the time when the character was turned into a car transport rig in the late 80's.

Bumble Bee being anything but a bug would just be weird. He was always known as one of the smallest Transformers who shined through his small stature and became a valuable member of the Transformers. Anyone who watched the show will also know that he was the closest to the youngest human that they were friends with.

Megatron was never a jet, he started out as a hand gun, then died and was rebuilt by Unicron as a laser canon. With him becoming a jet for the movie, you can only suspect that the liberal thinking of "kids shouldn't think guns are cool" has destroyed the idea of keeping him original.

Yes, that's true about megatron. But the thing about guns is just stupid. Guns are just fine, abusing guns, like abusing cars, is dangerous. Infact, 58, 000 people are killed in cars every year. So, which one is more dangerous?

Anyway, if they don't keep it straight, as much of a die hard Transformers fan as I am, I doubt I'll go see it.

Well I'm a bit disappointed. I heard there was going to be a Saleen S7 cop car, and I see it's just a Mustang....J/k.

Still cool, I'll go see this just to check out the awesome cars and memories.

Good thing YSSMAN got these and uploaded them. Paramount is on a rampage and is removing many photos from many sites.:nervous:

Ah, now I remember who Megatron was. He's the one who turns into Walther P-38. It's a shame about Bumblebee. Old Camaro being rebuilt into the new Camaro is very cool, but I would have just used the Camaro robot as a brand new character.

...Its a bit too late. Some of the photographs were on national television today (G4's Attack of the Show), so if they are going to complain, they should go do it to the dumbass who posted them on the internet. Apparently, there were quite a few folks who had pictures as well...

AICN has not only seen the filming, but has also read some of the scrpit, and has a few more extra photos on their website as well...

...Wait, where are they gone from? They are still up on ImageShack, and they are still on Leftlanenews.com. But alas, you are correct, they are gone from AICN... Too bad, they had some good ones as well...

Oh, god. Michael Bay is directing this movie. It's going to automatically suck pretty much then.

Michael Bay classics: Bad Boys(1&2), Pearl Harbor, The Island, Armageddon, The Rock. IMO, Rock is a classic, Armageddon was OK. Everything else, I wish I hadn't seen.

as a TF freak that sold the last of his regulars, and lost 50% of his movie generation to a parent giving them to a three year old, they'd be collectors peices to me

i was under the impression that
Megatron was reassembled by the Ark into a Walther PPK, his main henchbots into F-14 Tomcats. and I believe Prime fist came onto earth form as a Cab over Pete

Talk about bringing a thread back from the dead...

...GM let the lips loose when it came to what cars are in the new Transformers movie...

LLN.com
General Motors this week confirmed four of its vehicles will be the heroes of "Transformers," the action-adventure movie from DreamWorks Pictures and Paramount Pictures, in assciation with Hasbro, slated to debut July 4. The company also released pictures of each.

Bumblebee is based on the new Chevy Camaro concept car and the 1975 original. Ironhide will be a medium-duty GMC pickup. The Pontiac Solstice GXP stars as Autobot Jazz. And lastly the Hummer H2 stars as Autobot Ratchet.

Cool!

...Funny thing is that one of the bad-guys is a Mustang, and I'm sure there are going to be more Ford and Dodge products showing up as Decepticons as well. We'll see I suppose...

I'm looking forward to this movie. It should be fun: big robots, lots of explosions, an acceptable story line. I don't understand why they called it "Transformers", though. It really bears no resemblance to any Hasbro-funded show I've ever seen.

EXACTLY!

I would rather this have been a "Go-bots" rip-off of a movie then some piece that carries the Transformers name.

waitwaitwait...weren't the villians originally mostly aircraft of some sort?

Yes, I believe they are supposed to be, although I cannot be certain with every character there. Here is what we know so far machine/character wise:

- Optimus Prime is a Peterbuilt Truck
- Bumblebee is a 1975 and 2009 Chevrolet Camaro
- Ironhide is a GMC Topkick HD Truck
- Jazz is a Pontiac Solstice
- Ratchet is a Hummer H3

- Megatron is a B2 Stealth Bomber (still not official)
- Starscream is a F22 Raptor
- Brawl is a M1 Abrams Tank
- Barricade is a Saleen Mustang Police Crusier
- Bonecrusher is a Buffalo "Mine-Protected Vehicle"
- Scorponhook is a Scoprion-like robot... Think Beast Wars...
