What's the most outrageous things have you seen while travelling to or at your destination?

So me and my family travelled 1,266 miles by car (Left Saturday morning at 5:30am and arrived at destination Sunday morning at 11am).

We went through Germany which has good motorways and then entered Poland. Almost in the middle of Poland there is a ~161 mile motorway which doesn't connect any other motorways or cities at the moment. You drive through one lane village roads and you end up at the motorway. When the motorway ends, you continue on small village roads again. Well, this isn't the bad part.

When you enter the motorway, there is a toll. So we paid 13 Polish zloty which is £2.85. We then continued on... but not for long. About 18 miles after the toll, there was another toll. We thought we don't have to pay because we paid already at the first toll. But noooo, £2.85 again. After about another 30 miles, another toll and another £2.85. So after that, we drove about 30 more miles and yet another toll! This time we just took a ticket... At the end of the motorway the final toll... But this time it's £4.38. W-T-F? Why £4.38 and not £4 or £5? Turns out, on the ticket it says that your car and the persons will be taken into consideration at the final toll. We probably got charged more because our car has UK numbers on it...

That's over £12 in total... But WTF is it with tolls almost every 25 miles?! Why can't they put one at the beginning and one at the end?!

Thieves...

12 whole pounds. When I was in France we had to pay 40 euros (about 27 or 28 pounds) on a motorway.

On the N3 from Johannesburg to Durban, there are 5 or 6 tolls (one every 80-100 km). They're about 30 Rand each, which works out to about $20 USD. Not terribly expensive, but having to stop at tollbooths in the middle of nowhere in a country with a car-jacking/kidnapping problem...thanks, but no thanks. It's a nicely maintained motorway, though!
