Rank 339
Population 10

Wood: 11 per hour (1 level 1 lot, with another currently under construction)
Clay: 11 per hour (1 level 1 lot, with another coming up after the wood lot is complete)
Iron: 11 per hour (1 level 1 lot)
Food: 18 per hour, 10 consumed per hour (2 level 1 lots)

Level 2 Main Building
Level 1 Cranny (I built it before I found out about new player protection :banghead: )

*EDIT* If I built a marketplace would anyone else be interested in trading with me? I'm located at -4,21.

What tribe are you EvO?

EDIT: I'd definately trade with you, but it's gonna take some time to get resources to build my Main Building to Level 3, and then start construction on a Market Place. It's gonna take me a few days to get their I think.

I'd be interested in trading with anyone in a few days, can you trade with only one person? or many?

If it's many, then I'll offer to focus on resources and trade if I can be assured protection in actual soldiers at my village from the alliance.

Edit: I'm Roman btw.

I'd definately help out the Alliance in any way that I can. Wheter you need tropps or resources, but I have a feeling that I'm gonna be screwed as I seem to be so far away from the rest of you. I'm the only one in Y: axis negative territory.

A villiage actually sprouted up right next to me and the player over their left me a message.
He basically just wanted to say hello to his neighbor, and I've offered him into any alliance that we may form. Safety in numbers right!

I'm also Roman. It's also going to take me a day or two before I get a marketplace up and running (I'm likely going to have my main building at level 3 by tomorrow morning). As far as I understand, trading is conducted with merchants. You send merchants carrying a resource to other towns, and have them come back with more resources. You get an additional merchant every time you level your marketplace up.

But I might also be interested in becoming a resource based player, as long as I can be given protection from other players (I'd have my own small army to fend off some attacks). I'm normally a very agressive player in strat games, so I thought it might be interesting to take a more economy based approach for this.

I'm Gaul. One of their highlights are thier fast movement. A Merchant can carry resources at a speed of 24 squares an hour!
Plus, the Gaul are good defenders. Maybe I should consider the economy based approach too.

Maybe we should start to iron out the directions we all should take?
Some villages that will create devastating armies. Other villages that can support those armies.

Thoughts or comments?

Good idea; that way we'll have a good idea of who's going to be doing what. And, now that I've checked out the area around my town a bit more carefully, I might have to reconsider an economic strategy; I'm probably going to end up raising a good sized army to defend myself, especailly since I'm not too close to other GTPers. But, if I get powerful enough, I could probably become a resource based player through plundering instead of gathering. I'll wait and see how things play out though.

I agree with Boom, in fact I was going to suggest that we begin to develop roles within the alliance. Anytime I play Age of Empires, Age of Mythology, etc. I like to build up resources and trade, etc. I'm more than willing to assume that role here. The Forsaken, currently ranked 16, is directly beside me, and I understand is a veteran of the German version of this game, I'll need support if I'm going to focus on economy.

Max, you've played before, will a strategy like this work in this game? or will I be decimated and plundered relentlessly?

I hear you their, and it's kind of hard to tell how this game works with respect to trading, plundering, attacking and helping out alliance members.

Once we get more of a grip on the game and more of us become more establised, then we can really start to nail down who should do what.

A thing that you may want to consider EvO is getting friendly with your neighbors. I have already started raport with a neighbor of mine. Actually, he initiated the conversation. (Their is an internal PM system in the game so making contact with others isn't hard at all.)

I kind of like the idea of all of us GTP'ers sticking together, helping eachother out, and being one large community within the game, but until we can all reach a point in the game where we can effectively do this, we may have to do whatever it takes to survive.

Right now, I think that I've not played my cards right at first. What I really need to work on is amassing my resources. But with the Gaul, they can move these resources very fast to our fellows in need. With a range of 24 squares an hour, I should be able to reach a lot of you relatively quickly.

If we have villages like this, we can supply the armies, and in turn, the armies can protect the suppliers.
Also we can have people who focus on the following:

"You need three settlers to found a new village, to conquer a village you need an administrator (senator, chief, chieftain), which can be trained in your palace/residence at level 10. Additionally, you need a certain number of culture points."

That way we can have members within the alliance that can take over others villages.

Is their anyone here that has the resources and ability to build a full map for us to see?

Side note: I really wish we could see the entire map at once.

Ok I tell you a bit of my experiences in the german travian :

You all talked about several aspects, so I just start somewhere and I won't go to deep into the subjects now :

Concerning strategies, I have to say that in general you can protect yourself very good with a cranny for the first weeks, there is no need for defensive forces;
Later in the game the situation changes; there are possibilities to destroy buildings and resource fields....

Offensive strategies work, " farming " is quite effective and can make you rich;
However, the German travian ( since March online ) starts to show negative aspects for such a behavior :

Everybody has freinds and the yhave friends again etc... Attacking ally members is dangerous, you have to be carefully...

Some statistics : German travian has currently about 10000 active members and the TOP players have up to 10 villages with over 5000 inhabitants.... + thousands of soldiers each...

Politics play important roles, every ally needs a good balance of offensive and defensive players...

I'll post more tomorrow, feel free to ask questions....

Is it better to upgrade my existing lots of construct new ones?
At the beginning, looks like it's not a good idea to upgrade, it cost too much in resources to be helpful.

Perhaps it's better later if you ever need to lower crop consumption (it seems that you need fewer people when you upgrade than when you create a new lot, at least for level 2 upgrades)

EDIT:

According to this, higher level lots unlocks certain types of upgrades / building later in the game, at lvl 5 for crop, and lvl 10 for all resources.

I guess we'll have a bit of a headstart here :)

Anyone working on an Embassy? Mine is currently complete, but it's only a Level 1 at this time.

But I wonder, if I complete a level 3 Embassy, is their really a need for the rest of us to do the same?
To join an alliance, you do need at least a level 1 embassy, but theoretically, there should be no need for any of us to complete a level 3 as long as one of us have it.

Would this be correct?

Well I got level one crop, wood clay and iron, level 4 building! This game is quite njoyable at the moment

Well, you could visit www.travian.org ( the german travian ) and look around a bit by using alta vista translate or so; Everything is completly the same, so you should be familar with the menus etc
especially intersting :

http://www.travian.org/links.php

there are certain tools :

- Ally map : Enter an ally and the whole travian world will be shown to you, so you get an idea how it looks and will look like in future, the proportions are the same

- Gebäude Baum : shows you when you are able to build specific buildings

- Marktplatzrechner : you see the prices for every update, should no problem to browse there a little bit

I would focus on upgrading the resources first; a highlevel mainbuilding is importnat in a few weeks, when upgrading a building takes 5 hours...

That seems logical to me Boom. Atleast in the early stages.

Why should I build an embassy?
A: With this building you can join or found an alliance. Mit einer solchen kann man Allianzen beitreten sowie eine eigene Allianz gründen. Even if the embassy is destroyed you will stay in the alliance and if you are the founder the alliance will continue to exist.

Are there any farther features if upgrade the embassy?
- Level 1: You can be invited by alliances and join or ignore them. You will also get access to the alliance’s forum and other features.
- Level 3: You may found your own alliance now. If you want to know how many members your alliance can have you have to multiply the level of your embassy with 3 for e.g. the embassy is level 5 then you the alliance may have 15 members.
- Higher levels: They just increase the member limit plus 5 each level (if you have more than one embassy only the one with the highest level will be counted).

So if you're level 3 and a bunch of us join, you'll need to keep increasing levels to admit people to the alliance.

So we can have an unlimited amount of members in our alliance if we keep upgrading our Embassy's? So who'll start the Alliance? My vote is on Boombexus, since he's more forward in production.

It wouldn't be worth having a level 3 embassy for everybody because you only need a level 1 embassy to create an alliance. One GTP member needs a level 3 embassy to form a GTP alliance. All of the other users only need a level 1 embassy.

I joined. Username is Omnis and my coordinates are (-32 | 4)

I am worried because I am behind all of you. Here is my progress -

Should I wait and build an embassy next, or keep updating my resources.

resources. There is no reason to ally yet. None of us can be attached until Friday, so there's no reason to ally just yet. Build your resources now.

how do you change your village name? i notice boom's is Lexotica. do you need an embassy?

It's still premature to worry about troops, it would be a brazen move to attack a GTP member given the size of our alliance on only the 2nd day of the game.

You access your profile by clicking on your name in the stats page. You may wish to add your allegiance with GTP and the members by writing it in there.

It looks like the experienced players have set up shop in the South, so we should be fine for a few days anyways.
