Small update:

Installed the tune on Friday evening. Car was running great up until I tried to do a launch control start and hit a fuel cutoff in 2nd gear. Not sure what caused it but will be doing some datalogging shortly, just waiting for a OBD dongle to arrive. Since then the car has run great. *shrugs shoulders* New GoPro arrives today so will post some quality video soon.

Haven't had any other fuel cutoffs or misfires since that first event. Was told from the datalogs I took that that the car is seeing high loads and is pulling timing to compensate. Tuner is telling me not to worry about it. I've been running an E85/91 octane mix (E30 basically) and he thinks that the ECU was still trying to get used to that. I purchased the intercooler today (sans piping) and a couple other small items.

With that said, here's a short video of the launch control. I am going to make a nice video this weekend. Headphone warning: kind of loud. Still experimenting with mic placement.

A few things have happened:

Got the GFB BOV installed. Did a quick around the block test with it venting to atmosphere to see if I could live with it. The decision was made quickly that it was a little loud for my tastes, so I put the recirculation hose back on. Can't even hear it now. First impression is that the throttle response between shifts is much better and boost seems to build a little smoother.

Got the intercooler in the mail and promptly found out that I can't use it. :grumpy: My plan to keep the stock piping 100% intact but add-to it using reducer couplers and joiner pipes apparently isn't allowed. So after a little chat with the shop that makes them, they're going to make me a custom intercooler with 2" connections rather than 2.5".

And finally got my defroster vent gauge pod in and installed the boost gauge on Saturday. Feeding the vacuum line through the firewall was an experience that involves removing the intake, battery and ECU. Then while installing it I could hear a couple in a nearby apartment getting it on with the windows open so that made the day interesting. :lol:

Update: The shop didn't have the time to get it to me before I needed it so I said screw it and went ahead with my original plan. Ended up having to go a different route on the passenger side as the A/C lines were in the way, so had to purchase a 90 degree reducer coupler. In the end, with a little trimming and some muscle (what's that? :lol:) I got it to work.

Went to Colorado last weekend to get some track time on my home town track. Two laps in one of the stock boost hoses decided it didn't want to stay on anymore. I fixed it and went back out for the 2nd session and it popped off again on the 2nd lap. Called it a day. 650 miles for nothing. Video:

 
That thing is pretty quick for a large car. Looks like plenty of fun.

What could be a solution to keep the boost hose on?

I've already bought the parts, putting them on tomorrow. Replacing the stock rubber hose with a hard pipe and a couple silicone couplers with t-bolt clamps. Won't be a problem again. ;)
 
Ordered a new OEM grille and putting it on shortly. I like the one that's on there but in my area the bugs are terrible and the only real way to clean them off the bumper bar and other areas behind it, is to remove the bumper. Tired of doing that. Haven't decided if I want to plasti-dip it black first before installing.

Also, making some changes to the exhaust. Replacing my custom axleback with the Jun BL axleback. Hopefully I can get a cat-less downpipe shortly after, and then putting a 100 cell high flow cat and a bottle resonator in the midpipe.

Super long time no update. Just been cruising through the 105+ degree Arizona summer because it's just too damn hot out there to do anything but wash it in the dark on occasion. I do have some things on the way and a list of things that need to be done before I make a trip to California in October for a mini Elantra Sport owners meet and cruise:
  • Transmission fluid change
  • Install new intake (in the mail)
  • Install BOV solenoid
  • Coolant flush (silicone radiator hoses in the mail)
  • Throttle Body coolant bypass (for cooler intake temps)
  • Aerotekk side splitters (on order)
  • RokBlokz Mud Flaps (USPS returned them to sender for a stupid reason, hopeful re-delivery this week)
  • Front lip of some sort, haven't decided on which one yet
  • Install front lower control arm bushings
  • Install new ball joints and tie-rod ends
  • Custom Alignment
  • 24mm rear sway bar? (still undecided)
  • Clean and re-balance wheels, rotate tires
  • Full clay bar and wax
Didn't realize how big this list was until I just typed it out. :lol: Hopefully I can get everything done in time...

Mud flaps are on. Adjusted all the way out for now, when I put the side splitters on I will adjust to match.

Control arms FINALLY installed. Failed the first attempt because the ball joints are attached by one bolt and two studs that are pressed in. Of course the new ones I bought didn't include the studs so I had to order some. Found this out after I had already removed one of the existing arms. Also added a couple tools to the arsenal so things went smoother this time.

Car feels amazing now in front. Everything is super tight. Before the steering wheel was off to the left and even after multiple attempts to straighten it, both the dealer and I gave up. Didn't help that it pulled to the right so having to steer left to correct it made it even worse. Now the wheel is straight and it tracks perfectly. Actually surprised me given that I replaced the tie rod ends as well. (carefully put them in the same spot at the old ones) Looking forward to getting an alignment on Tuesday and hitting the canyons.

I am, though they make a bit of noise. Trying to decide if I want to try something else or just replace the front mounts to see if it goes away.

Went to the drag strip last night. After a couple disappointing runs to start, got a good time on my 3rd and final run after letting the car sit for a while to cool the intake temps. Also put the front tires at 20psi to try and find some grip. Here's the video:

A big update is that I removed the tune that I had in the car. I was getting rapid misfires and a lot of controversy is going down over the company I got it from because they were caught deactivating important fault codes in the ECU. After I had another misfire event I put the stock ECU back in as I felt that it was unsafe. They offered to tone down the tune a little for free but I've decided to go another route instead. For now I will run the stock ECU but will have the fault code that triggers a check engine light for the blowoff-valve removed and have the idle bumped up to 800rpm.

Also had to repair my fancy (now extremely dirty) exhaust recently because I was lazy and didn't install the included hanger that came with it and all the weight was too much for the one hanger that was being used. It cracked around the weld and started to separate. Had to have it re-welded and then finally got the other hanger installed so we're all good now.

Right now I think the next thing I am going to get done is to have the whole underside of the car pressure washed. Then I'll be replacing the coilovers and trying to get some new wheels/tires on it. Thankfully I can do most of this work myself instead of having a friend do it as the car can now sit longer than a weekend if needed for work to get done, because.....

... I picked up a new daily driver. New position at work comes with company lease car privileges. :) This will allow me to be able to work on the Elantra for extended periods of time without worry. Also since I have put 61k miles on the Elantra in almost 3 years, I can slow that progress down a bit. It will pretty much become a garage queen now during the week. I have a bunch of plans on refurbishing it to remove 3 years of damage including re-painting the front end, cleaning the underside (it won't see rain ever again unless I accidentally get caught in it) and getting it color corrected and ceramic coated.

Booked a photo shoot for the end of the month so getting some things squared away before then. Starting with this:

Tinted taillights, rear reflectors, blacked out the gray bar on the diffuser and covered the silver trim under the side windows. 👍
 
I had to cancel the original photoshoot because I came down with an ear infection a couple days before. Go figure. I have rescheduled for mid-June. Until then I have replacement shocks for the coilovers that need to go in, and replacing the brake rotors because the ones I currently have are warped just enough to cause a vibration under hard braking when the brakes are nice and toasty.

Hyundai did a great job with the exterior design of these. Walked by one today and there was an older Altima (~2013) next in line. By comparison, it looks like a total mess.

Unfortunately they screwed it up in 2019.

Small update, car has been sitting in the garage for a couple weeks. Got most of the work done in the front but some thrust washers on the front coilovers broke into a million pieces when I disassembled them so had to wait for more to come in. Now it's 108-110*F outside and the motivation to finish is low. :P It'll be back together on Sunday though, and I'll probably lose 10 lbs from sweating. :lol:
