I'm just curious, what is "nat3"?

It's a type of internet connection... PlayStation has different levels that it assigns to your connection.typically wireless is nat3, wired is nat2, and wired with upnp is nat 1... it's kinda silly since my connection is more than stable, but I don't have the ability to make it wired right now, so I have to leave it as nat 3, which has some restrictions tied to it

Nat1 means wired connection from primary modem. Nat2 is wireless or Slave modem wired. Nat3 indicates very poor signal or error in Signal.

You can check yours by going to "test connection " in the network settings part of your XMB menu

Actually I just checked on PlayStation's website...nat 1 is plugged directly to the modem, nat2 is wired, but with a modem-router-ps3, or wireless with upnp, and nat3 is wireless with no upnp, or poor signal. My router doesn't like the ps3, so it won't allow upnp... I'm thinking about buying a wireless to wired adapter, but that's still a little ways down the road...

If you are racing online in a competitive series, you really need to have a wired setup. It's not fair to those you are driving with to have to deal with lag and all it entails when you play this game with wireless. The signal is just not consistent enough typically.

No offense to anyone, but it surprises me how many people try gaming online without a wired connection. I tried it and it was obviously an inferior signal; so i scrapped it and ran a hard wire connection to my ps3.

Well, I'm sorry if I'm not using a much superior wired setup when I race. The wireless in my house hasn't let me down yet, so I'm not complaining.

Same here i run a wireless and i havent had any big problems besides when my dad uses the internet though thats because we have dsl. I think you can port forward also to get a nat 2 kind of thing for a wireless connection but i havent had any success.

Nat3 can also be a situation where your dsl modem functions as a router, and then you have your own router behind it.

Most competitive series prefer that you at least be on a Nat 2.

I ran wireless for a long time, then was staying downstairs in my house (my father in law lives downstairs), when my wife & her dad were out of town. His tv was too far from the wifi to work well, and we had wired his computer which was near the tv. So I ran ps3 of that network cable. Didn't notice much then. Then when going back upstairs to wireless I had been practicing for a race all week, and on wireless couldn't get the same lap time as before on wired. Granted it was only .5--.75 of a lap, but that's a big chunk on a 30 lap race. This was also over a year ago and was before gt5 did the online lag update thing.

I had the same mentality (wireless had never done me wrong.) Now I drag a cat5 from my router to the room I race in every time.

Even though you may be not experiencing any problems on wifi, everyone else in the room has to connect to you when we run rooms. It's a Mesh/Star network. GT5 doesn't use a client-server network, unless it's a public lobby on fixed host. So if everyone else was running wired connnection and those people are allowed a 100 megabit per second transfer rate (the ps3 network card is not gigabit), someone on wireless is running at max a 54mbps transfer connection. That connection on wireless will be the slowest (in theory.)

Lag still happens regardless, and wired people still get disconnected. However wouldn't we want to be in the best possible setup to limit lag/disconnects if possible.??

Most times the person that is lagging will not experience the lag, it's the people around that see it most.

I don't meant to complain and some people can't run a cat5 cable, or are stuck on a nat 3 connection that they can't do anything about. But if you have the means to go wired, you should.

End of rant.

I work in IT and will be glad to help anyone with setup of their existing networks to try and get off a nat3. Just PM me here with what kind of DSL/Cable modem you have, and routers and such. Try and include model numbers if you can. They are usually printed on the bottom.

Sweet!!!
You are going to have to let me know how they work out for you.
I might have to get me a set of those. How much money did you spend. If you dont mind me asking.

Will know tonight. Got them hooked up this morning. They were 55 plus shipping (was in Chicago so not far). Problem was finding a set. Probably had looked for a month trying to find. Found this pair on ebay. I have the seller's ebay name at my office and I"ll check on Monday if he has anymore.

The wiring was easy'ish. Several different ways to do it, but easiest for me was to take the cable from the DFGT pedals and use it on the G25 pedals. ALso removed the clutch, will probably put in a dead pedal at some point. Then again when I finish my new stand I'll probably reverse mount them.

I'm Nat 2, but I still turn off the other Playstations and unplug the Ethernet cable from the modem/router to my computer.

Turtle Racing League - Enduro Racing Series

Race 24: Trial Mountain Circuit
Car: Ferrari 458 Italia '09
Laps: 32
Tires: Racing Mediums
Date: January 19, 2013
Prize: 1966 or 1967 Birthday Ticket

The "Golden Rule" of Motorsports
"It is the responsibility of the overtaking driver, meaning the car that is attempting to execute the pass, to make sure that the pass is made cleanly and incident free."

Rules

You are expected to follow The "Golden Rule" of Motorsports and adhere to the GTPlanet Online Racing Rules and exercise Good Racecraft at all times, especially in turn 1.

Policies

It is the policy of this league for you to hold your position in turn 1 and not try to improve it unless the following situations occur: 1) The driver directly in front of you is asleep on the start. 2) The driver directly in front of you runs off course with at least 2 wheels off the track. 3) Obvious race incidents that must be avoided. There is no sense in causing an incident in the congestion of the first turn. Furthermore, it is inappropriate to take advantage of other drivers doing their part to keep turn 1 incident free.

"Rubbin"

This is a non-contact sport. Let me put it another way, if you are "rubbin", you ain't racing in this league! We will not tolerate individual drivers taking the fun out of racing for everyone.

First Turn

You are not going to win the race on the 1st corner or the 1st lap. The first turn on this is the 1st left and you must still hold your position through it. Other drivers may draft past you before the approach to the turn because the straight is so long. Holding your position in the first turn is limited to the first turn on the first lap. In other words, if you are able to fully draft past someone without incident or disruption to the other driver(s) with a reasonable distance before approaching the first turn you may. This rule is in place for 2 reason: (1) to avoid incidents in the first turn, and (2) so that drivers doing their part to avoid incidents in the 1st turn of are not taken advantage of. However, if a complaint is filed, the decision we make will be one that promotes an incident free first turn.

Dive Bombing

Dive bombing is unacceptable, and only results in accidents. It is not the same as passing under braking. Dive-bombing is when a trailing car intentionally brakes late to dive underneath the car in front of them as they are turning into a corner. The trailing driver must move to the low groove for at least 3-4 seconds prior to corner entry, so that the leading driver can see the trailing drivers intentions in his mirror. However, running the low groove is not a guarantee that he will allow you to pass, it is only an indication that you wish to pass him on the low side.

Procedures

• Division 1 will race at 10pm Eastern in the TURTLE_Division1 lounge.

• Division 2 will race at 10pm Eastern in the TURTLE_Division2 lounge.

• Divisions 3/A will race at 10pm Eastern in the TURTLE_Division3 lounge.

Connection Issues

Please follow the procedures below to help minimize connection issues.

Step 1: Reboot your modem/router before entering the appropriate Turtle lobby
Step 2: Reboot your PS3 before entering the appropriate Turtle lobby
Step 3: Clear your GT5 in game System Cache before entering the appropriate Turtle lobby

Pit Stops

Drivers need to be very careful entering the race track when exiting the pit. Please look at your map to see if other drivers are near the pit exit. Drivers exiting the pit need to stay in the pit exit lane until the track is clear of cars on the track. Cars on the track have the right of way.

Penalties

The corner cutting penalty system works very well on this track so we shouldn't have any issues with corner cutting.

Quitting

Drivers are expected to finish races no matter what position they are in. Rage quitting is frowned upon! :grumpy:

Microphones

Although you are welcome to use microphones during the race, they should only be used to communicate your proximity to other drivers in order to avoid an incident. Otherwise, either mute them or make sure any background noise in non-existent.

Reminders

Be sure to break in your car. If you did not get a chance to break it in, you should at least change the oil.

Race Incidents

Legitimate complaints are encouraged, they insure a better racing environment for everyone. Complaints should be addressed by "Private Message" to the race steward of the race in which the incident occurred. Please include race number, lap number, and time of incident. A ruling will be announced after a video review by an independent steward.

Hey matthewlong2121, thank you for joining the Turtle Racing League - Enduro Racing Series. Please refer to the Drivers List and choose an unused color combination and car number and post it. Then we will send out the PSN Turtle FRs you will need. Welcome to the Turtle Racing League!

my color would be orange and white...number21

Please refer to the Drivers List and choose an unused color combination and car number and post it. Then we will send out the PSN Turtle FRs you will need. And I might as well tell you now that you need to use proper grammar on the GTPLanet forums which means no text speak and the use of capital letters at the beginning of sentences and the letter (I) when speaking of yourself. Thanks!

And is there any way i could race the race with my friends or is that to much trouble. The list said they would be racing in devision2. Im just asking.
