Looks like alot of forums are saying your ISP could be the problem. I know it sounds insane, but if you can take your PS3 elsewhere and download and install the update, you might get different results. It seems that if there is any interruption in service at all, it can corrupt the update data. It's really the only way to try short of changing companies, which is a ridiculous request just to properly install an update.
Another thing is, if there are other devices in your home using your internet, you might try temporarily shutting them down so they don't cause any hesitation in the download.

Looks like what everyone else is saying and try going to a friend's house and d/l the updates from there.
You can only download firmware (ps3 core) updates to a USB drive.
Seems from reading that the download is finishing but getting dropped packets.
One thing you might could try. Call your ISP and see if they offer any faster services. (Ie you have a 5mb down 1mb up connection) If they do, ask them if you can try it for a day or two. Just say you need to test it for something. More than likely they might let you try it for free.
BTW, what's your internet speed connnection?
Go to speedtest.net and run a test and post results

You could just be having internet problems in general and only see it when downloading large files.
Take your ps3 and hardwire it directly into your DSL/Cable Modem. Make it so no other devices are connected in any way. If you have a modem then router, plug the ps3 straight into the modem. If it still fails I'd try someplace else.
If you wish to try, you could dmz your PS3 on your router to see if that helps. Most likely if hooking straight into your modem didn't help, this probably won't but it's always worth a try.

My plan all along was a 3 stopper on softs all the way. Get out ahead far enough to pit on lap 20, minimal splash of fuel and come back on still the lead. If that worked (which id did), then fresh soft tyres would propel me far enough ahead again to pit on 40 and 60.
Problem was I was testing Hard Tyre strategies earlier that day and forgot to switch my Hards back for Softs during Q. I wound up qualifying on Hards until the last few minutes when I decided to check them. I exited, changed to Softs and managed one flying lap to end up 0.122 seconds behind pole.
Man that incident off the start in T3 was sad. I feel bad because I may have been able to avoid it, but I had very little room between the wall and martin. I tired to push him back straight, but gave up because it looked like it may have taken us both out. I was going to let him take the exit since he was on the inside, but I guess he lost grip and we nipped tyres. It's an unfortunate racing incident in which I sometimes get caught with the short straw.
Good comeback though bud. Great multi-Div race.
