TURTLE RACING LEAGUE - FLEX Racing Series - ACCEPTING MEMBERS!

Sorry, maybe there will be some hidden gems in the Div. 1 Enduro pics I will be posting soon though. Maybe?

Nothing hidden this week.

I could have sworn I saw one. I guess I was wrong.

I won't be able to make the race this Friday. Going to Mom's house to do some work this weekend.
Have a great race!

It may be just me, but I can't decide on a strategy for this race. I've been doing some testing tonight to try to figure out how I want to go about it. Softs are so much faster than hards, but I'll probably have to make 2 more stops. I could try to stretch the softs for a couple more laps to make it 1 less stop, but I don't think I could manage on those worn of tires. And I haven't even tested mediums.

From what most have posted on GTP, softs are almost always the better choice, because the speed will make up for the extra time spent in the pits. I just have no idea. :nervous:

If you guys could to tell me exactly what your strategy is going to be (especially Martin), that would be great.

The only strategy I have at this point is to keep the front pointed in the right direction and not get massive penalties at Eau Rouge(spelling?). And I find that with softs I have a better chance of doing that. I usually come under prepared with pit stop/tire choice strategy and make the decision in race. Which has cost me in the past. 80% chance that I will use softs everytime in this type of senario. Don't know if I will stay on softs though. Probably.

Sorry, not much help.

Well you guys are ahead of me I have'nt even practiced this car track combo yet.
I'm sure I will using softs though.

When you don't use soft and try to keep up with drivers that are on softs you tend to crash more. I always factor that in as well. But, I'm a simple guy so it will be 56÷8=7 pit stops for me. :D

Run test laps with all tires.

Find your average lap time on softs
Find your average lap time on mediums
Find your average lap time on hards

Figure out the pit delta. How much time it takes to enter pit lane and exit after getting tires and fuel. I think about 14 gallons of fuel doesn't add any extra pit time. However you might have to fill up more than 14 gallons a few times.

So anyway just as an example:

Soft lap 1:55.000 (fictitious)
Med lap 1:59.000 (fictitious)
Hard lap 2:04.000 (fictitious)

pit delta time = 45 seconds (fictitious)

If you go with all soft you make 10 pit stops (fictitious)
medium 8 pit stops (fictitious)
hard 6 pit stops (fictitious)

Let's say a total lap race of 56 laps.
(laps*average lap time in seconds)+(pit stops*pit stop delta)=total seconds/60=minutes

Soft (56*115)+(10*45)=6890/60=114.8333 minutes
med (56*119)+(8*45)=7024/60=117.0666 minutes
hard (56*124)+(6*45)=7214/60=120.233 minutes

First I made these numbers up on lap times and number of laps per tire. Secondly on a longer track you have to account for when your going to have to pit. Can you make that extra lap on certain tire? Even looking at the example which could be wrong on the numbers, soft are the better choice. How many laps will be close to that average time on tires?

Also try and figure out the amount of fuel used per lap. When running in the draft you'll use a little less fuel than running in clean air. Also if running soft tires you'll have more pit chances therefore you can take less fuel in each pit stop.

Do you get an even tire wear across all tires. I haven't driven the Zonda in a while and more than likely the rear tires wear out faster than the fronts.

So why not run an alternate tire strategy? Mediums on back and soft on front. Some setup so your getting an even tire wear and maximizing the usage of the tires for pitting. Especially if your going to run hard/mediums. If you pit for tire change and front or back tires aren't worn that much. Change them to mediums or soft.

I'd run softs or an soft-front/medium-back combo if I were racing. I'd only run the alternate front/back if I had time to practice and could see what the front versus back tire wear looked like.

If you don't have the time to figure this stuff out, at least figure out fuel usage at it's worst (ie your in front with no traffic to help fuel mileage.) Figure out how much fuel for lap and write it down so when you pit you can EASILY know how much fuel to put in and are not wasting time sitting in pit road getting a full tank when you don't need to.

Just my .02 cents.

Infinital, you are greatly undervaluing your advice.

That is solid strategy building that most people have never considered how to put a value on, and beats making an educated guess of tire/pit strategy combo!

Awesome explanation! 👍

Thanks.

The two main points I'd add are:

1. Know your maximum number of laps per tire. If your in a close race with someone near your pit window, pit when your supposed to. Don't push an extra lap because that person isn't pitting. Over on Saturday's there are sometimes when I don't get hardly any practice time, but I already know that if it's 32 lap race, I'm pitting at the end of the 16th lap. I don't care who/what is around me. Only way I would pit earlier is if I had a lot of track offs where I've lost some tire do to spinning out a lot.

2. Remember the warm up time for your tires. Try and determine when and where you tires will get up to temperature so you can go back to 100%. Too many times I've seen players come out of pit and go instantly back to 100% to fail at one of the early turns. Especially at SPA where you have Eau Rougue and La Source to deal with.

Agreed
That is very well thought out and very sound advice Infinital-NG.👍
Thanks

Hey all, I'd like to join. My PSN ID is atongo619. If I'm accepted, I'll definitely try to join tonight.

Hey GranTurismo916, thank you for joining the Turtle Racing League - FLEX Racing Series. All you need to do now is choose an unused color combination and car number. Please refer to the Drivers List to see what is already being used and post your color combination and car number in this thread. Welcome to the Turtle Racing League!

Hello GranTurismo916. If we could get you to look at the first page of the OP and read through the rules, also look at the drivers list and pick a unique car/wheel color and unique car number for race cars with number plates. And post back here and we will get you added.
Thanks for joining the Turtle Racing League's Flex Racing Series.
We look forward to racing with you.👍

Sorry sent the message by mistake. What I meant was to pit before tires run out rather than taking a gamble and lose control.

I'll go do that now, thanks!

Sadly I am going to miss my first Flex race. Last minute change of plans. Have fun tonight Turtles.

Great advice, Infinital. 👍 I think my only deal would be if I had enough time on my hands to test all of my options. I was thinking about doing a 5 stop strategy on softs. I actually ran 11 laps on one set of tires, but it I lost a ton of time that last lap. So a 4 stop strategy was clearly out of the equation. I was pretty solid through 8 laps. 9 and 10 were slightly slower, but not enough to make much of a difference, I think. 10, 10, 9, 9, and 9 lap stints I feel would be the fastest for myself. I could easily run 14 laps on hards and make it a 3 stop race, but I would still come out ahead if I used softs. Again, I didn't test mediums. They could be my best bet and I don't even know it.

That stinks you can't make it, Martin. I think we could have a heck of a battle.

Who's hosting the race tonight if Martin isn't there?
