So TVR has been sold to the Russians! - Is nothing sacred?

I believe a Russian businessman has just (27/7/04) bought it.

TVR must have been Britains largest car manufacturer (apart from Rover) - will it now be classed as Russian?

Do you think this is a good move for TVR?, do you think some financial input will benifit the company? or do you think having a new owner could influence TVR's future direction in a negative way?

Where did you get this info from? Can you post an article or link? I just did a Google on it and the only thing I could find was that you can get an interior for a TVR which is Russian Blue Hide!

I've just heard it on BBC Radio One's News bullitin

Will it now be known as TVRski?

Just top clarify, TVR is still British it's still based in Britain, Peter Wheeler is still on board all thats happened is the new owner is Russian, it's not owned by a Russian company or anything like that. As for changes, TVR is now looing to expand, I'm not sure how this will affect my view of the company as the exclusivity or TVR's is one of the things I like about them. The purposed increase hints at a more affordable TVR maybe something around the 200-250Bhp, probably a coupe and convertible model available and it should use a lower capacity version of TVR's inline 6. This won't be a problem as long as the car doesn't take too many cues from the more exclusive TVR's and it doesn't stop TVR making other models in lower volume.

That's good news. Dodge recently became German, and almost all of there new production vehicles kick ass. Hopefully the same will go for future TVR's.

[edit] Too bad the company isn't under a russian company.

This kinda sucks.
Actually it doesn't, with Wheeler still on board and with a contract allowing him to stay there in a major role and involved in all the decisions TVR's will not lose track, the ownership has to change from time to time, at least it hasn't been bought out by ther company like Ford or Daimler-Chrysler. All it means is there might be a new entry level model and TVR has more money.

And sUn, it's best that TVR is still indipendant and I hope that never changes, it still is the second biggist indipendant car company in the UK, the biggest is London Taxi's.

On this note however, all current TVR's kick ass, they don't need anything to change there.

Hahahahaha, they will join forces will Chelsea FC and they will make an offshoot brand ARV AbRamoVich.

Agreed.

Although it is a shame to hear yet another British marque become, well, less British. I can't wait to hear the Top Gear guys discuss this (if I can get the episode that is :( )

Could be good or bad.

TVR were an amazing company who made amazing cars that they wanted to, they didn't appeal to the mass market wankers, and i hope they never do.

Maybe now they'll put back into production the Speed 12... okay unlikely.

I think what will happen is there will be a new entry level TVR around the £20-23k mark and maybe a new supercar model thats faster and more powerful than the Typhon. The entry model will be more important because that will be what TVR can use to create proper competition for cars like the S2000, Boxster ect which is a bigger market than the supercar one. There won't be any large scale restructuring according to Smolensky and Wheeler is still there as a senior consultant and will be involved in most decisions, and Wheeler won't allow any large changes he's already said that.

I think it's a good thing. Expansion is good. It'll be interesting to see what the new models look like. Maybe they'll be some Russian automotive influence included?

That's pretty damn hard to believe, but I guess anything can happen. TVR makes (made?) some sweet as cars. I just hope that the new people don't jack around with the GT4 licensing and delay the game even more.

 Damn you why did you have to bring up the idea of delaying GT4.

Lotus, Vauxhall and Jaguar are all owned by non-British companies. TVR fortunately is still British.

Stop spamming you spammer, Dan!!

I think I'm going to donate to the BHF now. Just enough for a monkey, or a pig, maybe an elephant.
