You should never compare off-screen, filmed material with direct feed.
Ive already seen videos from GT5P where i thought "damn that car sounds awesome" and its nothing like that in the game.^^

hey everyone i would like just like to know what racing game has great sounds. i thought GT5P sounds are pretty good, but alot of people feel different. Can sombody please tell me a game with better sounds thanks so i could compare

It sounds like GT PSP is using new tire skidding sounds. Check out this video and listen when he skids before the tunnel:

To me it sounds completely different and a lot better than GT5P's current skidding sound, so hopefully that means they've really improved it for GT5.
Yeah, it is different, on a better side :dopey:
Also, i really like that they brought back behind the car view like from GT1 to GT3...
I really hate the fixed one in 4 and prologue, they look so arcadey and for me undrivable, hope that they bring it to GT5...

The tyre sounds on that R8 / La Sarthe video are the same ones that we've always had since 1998, it's a shame I know. But the worst part, is that if you close your eyes while watching the video, that R8 sounds like a scooter... and that's something serious when we're talking about a game like Gran Turismo. They must improve the sound part, it's really downgrading the whole image of the game.

GTR, GTL, Forza has also slightly better sounds, but yes, GTR/GTL takes the crown.
But also only the sounds themself while driving, in replays they sound to direct, without any environmental effects.

Unfortunately i have to agree.

Isn't sound one of the hardest things to record since it has to go through many elements, conversions, audio systems, etc? Maybe the recording is awesome, but when implemented some of the data isn't read properly.

Ok thank you i will def look this up 👍

Don't hate me, but I really think that NFS series allways had a good engine sounds.
I played Most Wanted only because of the sounds, ignoring the stupid gameplay.
Ignore this video, just listen to the sound and imagine that you're driving Supra in GT, heaven :D

You can't be serious. It's quite coloured. It's the perfect score for a spacial ship movie... take a listen to the sounds related to the turbo and some kind of N2O over-effect. That's much..

Sound, for me, is something like this (the best soundtrack you can listen):

Oh yeah, i remember where i had NfS:U2 rented and ran the Mustang on the Dyno, that was nice.^^

EDIT: Try to listen to the engine itself, not the special effects.

EDIT2: Okay, thats of course way better. lol

I agree, but we are talking about games, not real life, right now I can post 15 videos with crazy engine sounds but it's not the point ;)

Ferrari Challenge Trofeo Pirelli did a great job with some engine sounds. At the same time they have a easy task because they only have to do a few engine sounds for the few ferraris featured (not hundred of cars like in GT..) but well, that's an example of a game with a good sound in some aspects.

Besides the sample of sound used, anybody thinks that´s tire sounds are too loud (comparing with other sound effects)?

I myself think they are too loud.

When a NASCAR goes out of the pits you dont really hear the tires, the engine reving up is too loud, its more like *bwuuooohhhmmmbombombombom*.

You can hear tire squeal above the engine usually. The higher pitch is easier to differentiate from the other sounds.

Well, yeah, you can hear it (because the higher frequences are always more noticable) but its completely different from what you can hear in the GT5 trailer.

the tire squeal from the nascar sounded good appose to the normal sounds,

If PD and KAZ said many times, its going to be something very much worth waiting for, i think things like sound would be fixed, they have to be, cause its only really going forward in 1 thing, and thats graphics and and physics nothing else.

I think they are looking to take a big leap forward, so hopefully all new sounds will be implemented!

I think people are reading way too far into the trailer sound effects. PD has always added extra sound to its trailers and videos to make the game sound better than it actually is. Someone showed an example of the GT5P trailer, but look even before that -- the intro to GT4. Skip to 1:40 and tell me cars sounded like that in the game.

I always thought it was interesting that the sounds in GT were different from inside to outside the car, and facing forward to facing back... I mostly drive the S1 Elise and I thought they had attempted to make the in car sound similar to what you would expect to hear with a helmet on... similar to how you would hear the car if you were at a track day... that's why I thought they emphasized all the highs and have bass that only works well if you have a sub woofer. I thought they had deliberately made the mid range sound like it was muffled by the helmet?

No, the sound is muffled because you're inside the car whereas the exhaust and engine notes come from outside of the cockpit.

While I think they could improve the sounds when using bumper view, which is what I use 90%. The cars sound much better when in cockpit view. I am trying to go to cockpit view all the time but it is a tough switch after so many years of not using it.

Actually, it is. If they can get the graphics right, they can get the sound right too. It's as simple as that.

I don't want to be driving a beautiful shiny hairdryer Corvette anymore.

It's so bad that I really can't think of a game that has worse sound than the GT series.

damn i thought the vette sounds sweet In GT5P!! sorry you feel that way man

maybe its just my setup, but GT5P sounds a hell a lot better than any other racing sim i've played when set to large theatre. Now i have to admit, i've got quite a high end sound setup, but thats what you need to get the best of the games sound.

Its kinda like people complaining about ps3 graphics on thier 42" tv. Its not until you dig deeper do you find the TV they're using is pants.

I think when making judgements on sound quality maybe you should quote what kinda speakers your listening to. And no, 5.1 speakers you picked up for under £100 at pcworld, bestbuy etc dont count as high end.

This depend on your age. Older people start missing out high-pitched sounds. No offense here :)

I agree on Need for Speed. Ever since Carbon, i would always buy a Lambo just to listen it. It was perfect. And the whining of Carrera GT...

It seems 'sounds' are a very personal thing..

I haven't got any real complaints with GT5p's sounds, sure some aren't comparable to vids I can find on the net, but I'm lucky that I have a reasonable surround system setup in the same room as my consoles which does go quite loud with good bass, so I adjust the overall ambience a bit.

I can't wait to get better tyre noises, it's the one area that for me sticks out more then anything with GT5p.. I'm sure if the trailer (even if engineered) has different/better noises, it'll be in the final thing!

No doubt Polyphony Digital record the real engine/exhaust car sounds , you can see it on every "making of" GT.

But I think after recording, they edit all these sounds before including on the games, because, in my opinion, you listen all of them soften, smoother. For example, if you hear a muscle car on real life, the sound is brute, louder. Not to mention competition cars, F1... you can go deaf! :dopey:

In conclusion, perhaps they uniform the sounds so you can hear all the cars on the race (if for example there are Renaults and Ferraris on the race, be sure you will only listen the italians on real life :sly:) and music too.
