If Polyphony didn't take such a long time to release Gran Turismo 5, we could have had a Gran Turismo 6 on the PS3 in 2010. Then we could have had Gran Turismo 7 on the PS4 in 2014. I hope Polyphony is working overtime to develop Gran Turismo 7 for the PS4. The overly long developing time of Gran Turismo 5 may have costed Polyphony hugely. Or it could have been Sony's fault for creating such a complex system. Either way, Polyphony has gotten itself into a pickle by taking too long for GT5 development!

If Polyphony didn't delay Gran Turismo 5 for such a long time...

GT5 was officially delayed 2 times. You can't "delay" a game without having an official date to change. It was delayed twice after it had an official date released from Sony/PD.

Alright I took delay out, I became confused. Still, taking such a long time to release GT5 did cost Polyphony in the long run

Here is the parallel Gran Turismo universe release if Gran Turismo 5 launched with the ps3!
Gran Turismo 5 (PS3): November 11, 2006
Gran Turismo 6 (PS3): November 24, 2010
Gran Turismo 7 (PS4): November 2014

The PS3 was an extremely complex piece of hardware at the time. This is just hypothetical, the point is, if GT5 came out a lot sooner, then we'd have GT6 2 years ago or so and possibly a GT7 launch sooner also. Polyphony is likely working overtime on GT6, and I think it will be excellent!

But my point is, what benefit would there be for it? An even more compromised GT5 (because contrary to Kaz' statements circa 2009, it clearly wasn't finished at that point) pushed out a year (or even two) earlier, with less content then GT5 ended up with; then GT6 ending up in about the same spot date wise as it is now.

Would GT5 have been received a lot better if it came out when Prologue did? Sure. But there's no way they would have been able to release the game as we ended up getting it 3 years earlier then we did.

PD didn't have anything done in 2006! Certainly not enough to release an entire game around.
Exactly. GT4 was just released in 05, plus if you agree the PS3 was complex, how do you figure PD could have finished GT5, a complex enough game in itself in such a short time frame?

Polyphony could have just released Gran Turismo 4 HD, with upscaled tracks and cars with some new races and more content with the launch of the PS3. What happened with GT5 happened, and sadly there's no way to go back in time now. I don't blame Polyphony at all, Sony's cell processor was very difficult to program for and Gran Turismo additionally was a complex game as well, that is reason for GT5s 5 year development!

If PD had actually released Vision GT, it would have been highly regarded and probably would have bore some of the heat GT5 got; but as far as GT5/GT6 goes it wouldn't have had much impact on them as far as the games themselves or release dates.

Imagine if APEC countries don't have oil and instead Croatia have it.

And my family has the ownership of 2000 oil-drills.

Imagine that world mate, what world would that be.

I definitely agree that I would have much preferred to see GT4 rendered on the PS3 than what we ended up with.

Polyphony has gotten itself into a pickle by taking too long for GT5 development!

10.6 million copies of GT5 sold.....GT6 releasing onto a platform with 70+ million users.....

I wish I could get myself into a pickle like the one PD find themselves in ;)

I'm struggling to find any kind of sense in what you're saying, but either it's not there or you're just very good at hiding stuff. What is your point? That you want to play Gran Turismo on the PS4?

I get the gist of what he's saying. Let's posit that Kaz had the team crank out not just GT4 HD, but GT5 lite, with all the events in GT4 and more, but with graphics roughly like we got in GT HD. Maybe 16 cars in race, no damage, and a few new cars and tracks. It might have been ready in fall of 2009. Then Kaz could whip up a GT PSP with a much trimmed down GT5, and then work on a serious blockbuster upgrade, which would be ready in the fall of... 2013. ;)

Maybe 2012 if we were lucky, but I can't see how any alternate timeline could be much different than this. And of course, this still pushes GT7 down the road at least two years, so GT6 can make some money. Keep in mind that any sniff of a real Gran Turismo game on PS4 is going to hurt GT6 sales.

They don't need "overtime." They need to hire more people. When your games sell ten million copies, you can afford to hire some more people so that you get more accomplished in less time. There aren't laws limiting how many people can be employed to work on a game.
