Additional New Gameplay
Driving Missions
Designed to test playersÂ’ skills, this mode sets conditions, such as time handicaps, specific opponent cars and track sections that players must beat. Challenges donÂ’t necessarily begin from the starting grid in this mode.

just hit ctrl+f and type in "opponent car" if u dont believe me đź‘Ť

Precisely as civicgsir said.
Specific opponents cars refers to 'SET' specific cars to beat in mission mode, it does not read player specific selection of opponents.

Photo Mode
Photos are processed in Photo Lab where they can be saved to Memory Cards (PS2), saved to USB Flash Memory or printed out as actual photographs via a compatible USB printer. (The Epson picture mate is the recommended printer. As GT4 is the first PS2 game to support USB Flash Memory – a shortlist of the peripherals supported will be released. This list will include the Sony Mini Vault).

I really hope that "USB Flash Memory" includes the MAXDrive. I mean, it's really nothing more than a USB hard drive.. just very small (16MB) and inexpensive. And may even use Flash Memory technology for all I know. While the PS2 needs software to use it, my PC doesn't.. it's plug-and-play, and WinXP recognizes it as just another drive. That'd make my day.. hehe. Getting to do some Photoshop magic on 'em and print 'em out up here rather than hauling my printer downstairs to plug it into the PS2.. hehe. I don't even know if my printer is compatible (Epson Stylus C80), but I know I can print 'em if I can get the images onto my PC. :)

Sony sells several objects that meet the criteria. They sell Micro Vaults that are keychain flash drives - 128 MB or 256 MB. They also sell Mini Vaults thta contain both a flash drive and a slot for a Memory Stick. These Vault devices are all marked as compatiable with both Windows and Macintosh - so almost everyone should be able to use them to download a Photo-Mode shot to their favorite computer via a Flash Drive - and then chop, cut, paste and finally print the photo of their dream car.

It's always better topless :sly:

What's with the continued Japanese fascination of making every image a .GIF? Haven't they ever heard of JPEG?

Photographs should NEVER be .GIFs!

Check the Photo Mode description linked in my sig for a list of known Japanese market EPSON printer numbers that are compatible with GT4. I don't know which number is compatible with your model, but a question sent to EPSON should be able to clear that up for you. The list used to be on EPSON's own site, but I think it has been removed since I found them.

As far as using USB mem-drives go, it should be pretty simple for PD to figure out their own file transfer system. The real question is did they bother? They must know we need/want to be able to transfer replay and other game files. I am still trying to get this necessary feature confirmed.

Cheers,

Some quick digging seems to show that the MAXDrive uses Flash technology, which means GT4 will (hopefully) recognize it as a standard Flash drive device, and move things back and forth accordingly. Probably won't know for sure until the game's out.

I'm not terribly worried about the printer, especially if I'm able to bring the images upstairs in my pocket. I prefer to Photoshop them a bit anyway (I know a few tricks to get rid of the "CG look" that they have). I imagine the U.S. instruction manual will have U.S. designations for the compatible printers, just in case. I might do some digging anyway just to see.

We've seen lots of this earlier, but now Sony has compiled newest information into this sweet Product Summary.

Pay attention to fields as: LAN racing (2 additional monitors - sweet)

Multi LAN Race – allows up to six players to race over a Local Area Network of PS2s with Network Adaptors. An additional two screens can be used to watch the live replay.

Photo Mode
Photo Drive allows players to drive their favourite hard-won car around any track, then pause the replay at any time and take a picture of the car in action.
Photo Travel allows players to place vehicles in any of sixteen virtual tourist hotspots, including under the Brooklyn Bridge (New York), Shibuya (Tokyo) and the Piazza San Marco (Venice), and take stylised photos from any angle. ... (The Epson picture mate is the recommended printer. As GT4 is the first PS2 game to support USB Flash Memory – a shortlist of the peripherals supported will be released. This list will include the Sony Mini Vault).
I have a number of questions about some details relayed here:

Where is this product summary available? (the SONY source of it)

GT3 can have extra broadcast monitors (monitor numbers 7 and up), now, so what is new or different with how GT4 is doing this?

So, the number of Photo Mode locations is back up to 16, or were we misinformed earlier that GT4 only has 15?

Who is saying that EPSON's PictureMate is _the_ recommended printer? EPSON/SONY jointly announced that two new GT4 printer models were going to be developed, plus many other models are known to support the game. In my view, the PictureMate is only _one of many_ compatible printers. Other brands are likely to be supported, as well.

By the way, the EPSON PictureMate is a reasonable choice for a GT4 compatible printer, at a reasonable cost, too.

Man... more rainy nights here in Houston. And you British folk think YOU have it bad... anyhow, on to the

topic.

My contribution relates to the wings deal. I know someone into the Need for Speed: Underground deal (NFS:U2 Coming Soon or already out) would like to think that the rear spoilers will be highly flamboyant. Flamboyant in the sense of "whale tails," double-deck GT wings, and all that. I do not bash on tuner car lovers, but the wings will be about form and function. I know some of you tuner fans would love to have your favorite rocketship go to work in GT4, you'll have to learn how to make proper aerodynamic settings. This
even includes if you want to change the rear wing with a more functional one. Or is the rear wing on the Cobra R functional, Mustang fans? I am no tuning expert so I cannot help you with this. Some of you newcomers will have to learn how to find the correct settings to change up aerodynamics. You want to have the right settings for high speed tracks, then some other settings for difficult courses with corner after corner after corner. So if you have a GT game, kind of toy around with these aero settings and learn the best way to get aero tuning down.

Alright? If I come up with anything else, I'll be back.

Changing wings hey? Does this mean that I can take a standard Lancer Evo and replace the factory wing with some carbon-fibre-racing wing? I wonder how that works, or whether you can only add wings to certian cars that don't already have one.

But they still have the D1 drift cars?

Unless its like GT2 and the HKS Drag cars?

GT4 will probably support maxdrive...It must! :)

Well, Epson hasn't been the most helpful in regards to which American printers will work with GT4.. they seem baffled by the idea that a printer could be hooked up to a game console.

Anyway.. I did some digging, and it looks like most American Epson printers WILL be compatible (so long as they have USB, of course).

The most information I recieved from them was this little tidbit:

"If the system uses the EPSON ESC/P RASTER language, or the EPSON REMOTE language, then typically, it will work with most of our printers."

I did some further digging and found out that the "PictureMate" printer does use those two printer languages (and only those two, as far as I can tell), and is listed as one of the GT4-compatible printers (the rest of them are Japanese models, which makes it very difficult to track down language information, since all the product web pages for them are in Japanese). But what this means that the game IS using one or both of those printer languages, therefore it should be compatible with most American models of Epson printers.

This means that I'm going to spend a ton of money on gloss paper and ink.

You know, I may go into shopping for a JumpDrive, I think it's called. Or if it's a flash drive, set me straight. Now GTPlanet, I seen one of those Flash Drives made exclusively for the PS2. Imagine taking a game that requires a lot of Memory (for example, WWF Smackdown: Just Bring It (4+ MB), NCAA Football 2004 (2+ MB, especially including Dynasty Mode), exporting data from the PS2 to your computer. Granted you have a USB Port, you can take PS2 data from the little drive and upload it to your computer for some long-term storage. And in the case of Gran Turismo 4 Photo Mode captures, it will be interesting to take these pictures and make a brand-new, more exciting Desktop. Who wouldn't want a Desktop of a BMW M3 GTR pwning Nurburgring Nords? A Nissan 350Z droptop at Costa di Amalfi? A Bentley EXP GT at New York?

I've seen that Flash Drive for the PS2 before, but haven't seen it much except for an EB store.

SONY has already said that Photo Mode images will be transferable to a PC, through the USB port. The MAX Drive's memory stick (or any other USB mem-stick) should work, regardless of brand.

The only important feature that has not been confirmed yet is whether GT4's file transfering system will allow similar movement of other game files, such as replays or any other PS2 game file. That may (or may not) require something like the MAX Drive.

In this particular case, it may pay to wait and find out first.

MasterGT

Question... Has anyone heard or read if you can fast forward and rewind on replays vs. waiting for the money shot and only seeing it once and having to start from the begining just to see it again.

The Nike car was designed with the design of a shoe in mind! I wonder if the amount of fuel in your car changes its weight in GT4 for changes in performance.
