Final Quick Match Races 2-7-18

That's most probably where you grab some time on me. My car won't do flat in 5... unless I want to hit the outside barrier

I had a couple of races at Midfield in the weider but I was running against someone very close to my own pace (using the weider too) and couldn't find a single opportunity to pass. Straying off line there costs way too much time and 2 blinks later, the race is all over.

For what it's worth, high 3's in the lead and mid 3's drafting the leader. The usual few tenths lost on the off camber left hand turn.

I think I am decent in the supra. Just annoyed how everyone uses the same car to try to be the fastest. I tried the srf glitch in the supra. 1.03.8 without and with a really crappy lap beat it by a tenth, so I could do a 1.02.x with the glitch but I don't like it. Also why are a lot of people dirty when they do these? I get brake checked a lot and get ramming penalties!

Lots of front downforce. I'll share the tune eventually, I'm just not done with it yet.

Agreed, indeed I set HSV max on front side.

Actually I'm racing this QM race mainly for Fuji TT tune benchmarking in which unbalanced DF is a must too.
On the other hand low rear downforce doesn't help fast grid start...

So testing original tune by PAD AT ABS=1 only:

Fuji TT HSV tune by TRL_Andromeda (5x races): 1:03.3xx
Fuji TT HSV tune by oooMax... (3x races): 1:03.5xx
Fuji TT HSV tune by hotsaucer (3x races): 1:03.7xx

ciao

With all the practice I had done for the GT500 Bathurst QR, the Touring Cars QR intrigued me. They certainly handle better although it removes some of the challenge.

I tried most of the cars and here's my impressions:

M3 GTR - May be the best handling car in the group. However, it might be the one with the least power down the straights. Although I got it down to a 2:05.4xx, it's going to be a challenge hitting a 04 anytime soon.

CLK Touring Car - Not quite M3 handling but it holds its own. A bit more power too but I was only a tenth faster than the M3 overall.

Astra V8 - The nose feels heavy and seems like it has the same power as the M3 and CLK. However, I managed a 2:05.200 with a feeling I could get into the 04s with more practice.

A4 Touring - Last car I drove for the night. The gearing is a little taller than the three cars. Similar to the Astra in handling, maybe a touch worse. It powers down the straight well and that's probably why I hit a 2:04.750 in short order.

Thank you very much for detailed report, I like your method approaching the various events.
I didn't benchmark Bathurst event yet but in general M3 GTR always was giving better feeling performances for my PAD AT driving. Without to double-check my timetables I remember Red Bull Ring, Mid-Field, Apricot.

Ciao

@coryclifford hey cory, since you usually set a dang fast time, can you try out the Shelby daytona Coupe on the midfield QR? I've been doing 1.05's with it, and i think there's more to gain with it. sure, it doesn't have that turning grip as the GT500's, but it goes fast, the accelaration is pretty good, and the car's stable. Would like to see how fast it can go, and you normally do that

I was using the Z gt500 '06 and its just easy, got around a 70% win rate or so with the races I did, and it launches better than the hsv. so I got bored, and tried out the C2 corvette race car '63.
It accels pretty fast, but i burn that front outside tire on the trailbraking, and its no so stable, i have to fiddle with it more.

I'm going to try the Cusco Advan jgtc in a bit, and the falcon XR8 to see how those fares.

MidField

HSV Base model, this tune with few adjustments capable of 1:02:x. You need maximum downforce, and final gear 2.600.

Fast, but not very stable in points on the track marked red. Any suggestions how to improve situation?

I had a guy kept finishing second behind my HSV in a Shelby Daytona, and not that far behind either, so it does seem to be very fast.

As for Bathurst, as mentioned in other posts, I've found the A4 to be the fastest there for me.

Out of all the cars, I only managed to get into the 5's (.8) with the TT. The Astra was too spongy on the handling (too easy for me to over drive) and the A4's gearing really isn't auto tranny friendly. The M3 was the most entertaining drive while the CLK had a really nice neutral set up. The TT was right in the middle of those for me. The gearing suited me and the handling was the nearest to the M3 but without any hairy moments.

Drove the Cobra at Midfield for 8 races. Won 6. But no matter what I did I was stuck in the low to mid 1:04s but did do a 1:04.021 in a draft. Car is fast but the HSV stops better and corners better. HSV cars in the draft can't keep up. Got a few comments about it being cool. 👍

Then back to the HSV in a few different rooms. Did more than a few 1:02.9s. There's so much more grip in this car compared to the Cobra.

HSV is this right now:
Oil changed
66/64
11.21/12.13
1/1
1/1
3/4
0/0
-0.04/0
Brakes 5/5

Aero 400/460
Stage 3 engine at 96.8%
LSD 5/7/13

I have no idea how I got to the trans numbers, but as it sits:

Max speed slider full left
3.294
2.364
1.820
1.500
1.260
1.095
Final 4.340

👍

Updates on the Touring Cars:

A4 Touring - The fastest in the group down the straights but sluggish steering. The taller gearing makes the last and first corners more annoying. It has low 2:04s in it but an 03 may be out of reach for me. If leading, I'd probably want this car to fend off an overtake.

TT-R - Stable and it has the advantage off the line. Not the most powerful but I found this car the easiest to nab 2:04s. It's almost like the M3 but with the needed extra power.

M3 GTR - Remains the best handler but also the slowest. While I was able to get two consecutive 2:04.8s, it took too much effort.

Astra - Iffy handling but better than the A4. The brakes feel the best, though, and I somehow got a 2:04.35 in it. I want to say it's the best car that isn't an Audi but it may be driver dependent.

CLK Touring - 2:04.6xx but like the M3, I really had to get every bit of corner speed out of it.

Basically, I can run below a 2:05 with all the cars. The M3 may be the hardest to win with but it's within feasibility.

I'm knocking on the door of the 4's in the TT-R now but I doubt I'll find much more than a .9.

When they ran these touring cars at Apricot Hill reverse a while back, the Astra and CLK seemed to run the quickest times but at Bathurst, the BoP seems to work much better. The straights are a great equalizer.

I can't connect to the dang Bathurst. Tried 6 times.

So I did more Midfields. Some real turd drivers there sometimes in the full fields. Managed a 1:02.7 though, same HSV set up I posted. Changing the front toe out more negative does not help with turn in for the flat in 5th chicane. Made it worse actually.

Think there were some major issues last night - took me about 30 minutes to get into Midfield......

I've noticed that Midfield is another of those QMs where the grip levels vary hugely. Sometimes, in a full room, it's like driving on ice!

I'll need to try it out over the weekend. Don't think I'll spend too much time on Midfield, though, since I feel overtaking may be more difficult.

Bathurst, I'll likely run a lot to see if I find anyone that can hit a 2:03. Otherwise, I want to see if I can pull off a 13th or lower starting spot to first.

Viper GTS-R at 600pp is a delight in Midfield! DS3 friendly when given typical seasonal TT style setup. 500 600 downforce was agile and 500 650 a bit grippier.

Limiting to FR brings some cool cars to the track.

Always failing to get into autumn ring.

It's more like F1 at Midfield. Anything lower than a 2nd row start and you've got a procession rather than a race. I think it's the first tuned quick match I don't bother with.

I hit a 4.7 and 4.8 this morning (TT-R) in two races without drafting. I'm trying to get into the mindset of attacking the track with time trial risks instead of being cautious and it seems to be paying off as I made a couple of small mistakes and left a bit of time out there. I've always been a bit scared of curbs but I guess if I want to go quicker, I've got to learn that I can use some of them for a bit of extra track width. Proving hard to break my cautious habit with all the extra mistakes but I'm getting there.

I also got a 2.04.58 when a similar pace guy came in that I got a tow off but I've never counted drafted lap times before. If my PB had a couple of mistakes in it though, I should be able to match it without a draft.

One of the TRL members was at Bathurst last night and getting low 2:04's in traffic with the Merc. FYI.

Was it TRL_LIGHTNING? When they ran the GT3's there a while back, he dominated it.
