Exactly what I was thinking. The "ports" comment made me laugh.

Also, F1Man, you might just want to hold out a bit longer and then buy a new computer...

I think i will leave u all in the dust when i get my p4 3.06 ghz

The difference between 3.06 and 2.54 is nothing. Maybe 5 FPS at max. Anyway, you're gonna need a nice video card. I myself have GeForce 4 Ti4200 64MB DDR AGP (Late Edition). It runs as good as the late edition 4400 128MB AGP.

Errr. Yeah. Right. How do you justify the fact then that Dell computers ARE custom built for you when you order them, and that as the world's biggest PC maker they can negotiate massive discounts which they then pass on to you?

With most brand name computers, you pay too much for too little. With a custom built computer, you can pay less and get the same or better performance. Dell is alright because you can get major discounts off them, but I still think custom built PCs are better.

Also, a lot of brand name computers need Recovery Disks if something goes wrong. I think Recovery Disks are the worst idea ever. And, if you use your Recovery Disk to get it back up, you'll lose everything off of your hard drive.

I also prefers customs because you have control over what you want, and you can shop around to get bargains.

Well. I'm gonna buy Vice City for PC and I guess I don't REALLY have to upgrade my computer because the computer I'm using now is 133 MHZ and I downloaded DreamWeaver MX and it required 300 MHZ and it works FINE so I guess Vice City might work as well. I sure hope so. :) (and Vice City requires 800 MHZ but I'm just gonna put it on my 400 mhz PC.)

400MHz? Vice City won't start on that. I'm dead serious. If you have under 800MHz you don't have a snowball's chance in hell of running Vice City. And I bet your video card is as old as that processor. So if it does start it'll look like 3-week old roadkill.

Content Creation applications, like Dreamweaver, don't often need as much as they say they do. But trust me, 3D games like Vice City, do. You might be lucky to get a way with 50mhz under or so, but 400mhz.....no chance.

Also, I don't think a 400mhz computer would have a good enough graphics card either.

Another thing with manufactured PC's is that the companys tend to cut costs. For example, instead of using a decent intel chipset they will use a Via chipset motherboard to keep the costs down. Also they tend to save space with smaller motherboards/cases, so this limits upgradeability. Not to mention some of the onboard stuff like videocards are very basic in comparison. Although brand name computers do have their advantages depending on what you want to do with them. I mean i'm using a 600mhz IBM desktop which is fine for my needs, which includes video editing and I have been able to run most high end content creation applications on it. Fair enough it does have 1gig of ram but it would work just as well with just 256.

But if you want games, selfmade is the way to go.

Yeah, I remember not long back I went over to friends place. They were trying to put something in there little Hewlart Packard computer. Stupid thing was so compact. It swear it took them a whole minute just to find the ram slots...

Yeh, that's why I will go self made with my custom list I already put up here...:)

Yeah, I mean I have a newer self built P3 machine that has been overclocked to 1.2ghz and it has a Geforce 4 ti4200, thats what I use to play PC games on and it copes pretty well. It's in a very old ATX tower case so it looks like some old crappy computer, so it's kind of a sleeper computer. :D
