"It’s official - SCEA announced today the April 17 North American ship date for Gran Turismo 5 Prologue, available exclusively for PS3. Developed by famed Polyphony Digital, Gran Turismo 5 Prologue will be available for $39.99 on Blu-ray Disc (BD) and as a download via the PLAYSTATION Store.

The BD version will offer added value with an exclusive behind-the-scenes High Definition (HD) video feature called “Beyond the Apex”. This video will offer some awesome access to the folks at Polyphony and give some background on how they are able to create such a realistic and beautiful driving simulator. We’ll have more information on GT5 Prologue leading up to its launch in April..."

I'm glad to finally get a date. And I'm even more glad that I bought the japanese version. I could not have waited til April. Finally now I can get some horsepower numbers and mph guages

Rumor is that there will be more cars and a quick tune feature.

Honestly, I'm hoping this may stir up a few more sales of the Japanese import, now that we know how long we will have to wait. I am very glad I bought the import version and will be more than happy to get the US version as well.

Reading the comments posted to this article on the PS Blog I suddenly understand why SCEA said they didn't release GT4 Prologue because they didn't want to confuse the consumers.

Everyone is complaining about it being a demo for $39.99, but looking at what all it has it isn't far off from arcade racers like Dirt that cost $60.

Touring Mars, I've just realized your nick is an anagram from Gran Turismo :)

As for transfereable gamesave - I wouldn't bet a dime on it.

A lot of these people don't take any sort of time to to a little research. So, they just go on through life uninformed and missing out on life's little blessings.

wow good thing i ordered my japanese copy, that way i wont have to wait in aggony for fw more months.. as for the save data.. i dont think it can be transfered.. different symbols could be used for the coding? i dont know..

Hold on a sec. dude, what you meant to say was "arcade game like SEGA rally GT" because DiRT is the best rally racing simulator out there" key words being RALLY RACING Simulator. Rally racing in Gran Turismo is far from realistic. The grafics are awesome, but it's nothing like the WRC if you have ever watched that. Rally racing is tipically from point "A" to point "B", the only time a rally race takes place on a circuit is on a super special stage. Plus, in rally racing, you have a Co. driver.

Um, I was not comparing styles of gameplay or even how rally has been done in GT compared to Dirt. I used the term arcade because Dirt has an arcade presentation.

My point is people are complaining about $39.99 for 40ish cars when Dirt had 46 and was $59.99.

Heck even the prologue demo had more cars than most racing game demos.

The point I am trying to make is that SCEA may have been right in that the general consumer is getting confused. Just read any thread started by a new member with a title that says something like, "A question about GT5 Prologue."

Trust me I am not trying to put Dirt down in any way. I own the game and love it.

Dollar is very low now, $40 means 27 €. I would be very happy if EU price will be 29€. And where is EU release date?

But that's not the entire point of why people are complaining about the $40 price. The major issue is it's not a full game meaning if you buy GT5:P you're most likely going to buy GT5 which is going to have everything prologue has and more meaning you have basically paid $100 for the game. Also the car list is high but doesn't this game only have 5 tracks?

Look at it this way. MotorStorm came out last March right? You know how "thin" that game is, right? And it cost $60!!! Guess what, they are working on MotorStorm 2 and it will be here some time soon. Somethin' tells me that they will want $60 for that game too.

If money is an issue, then do not buy Prologue, neither the Japanese, nor the US version. Or, if you bought the Japanese version then don't buy the US version in April, if money is "the issue".

If you "refuse" to buy it and want to punish SONY by holding out until next year some time, then you'll simply be waiting.

For some of us, the core reason for being rooted in the Playstation camp is Gran Turismo. Some of us do not own many games, because GT is what we have been waiting for and nothing else will satisfy that appetite.

You spend $50 to fill your gas tank and what do you have at the end of the week? A thirsty gas tank.

Just ask yourself the question: How bad do you want to play. At least this time around if you want to play you can. Unlike GT4 Prologue.

GT5 Prologue is a gauntlet for PS3 in 2008. You've seen the latest ad campaign right? What's the first game featured? GT5 Prologue.

I bought a PS3 at $599 for GTHD. Do you think I am going to hesitate to set aside $40 for GT5P?

Granted my friend and I had this conversation and I believe part of it will come down to how desperate you are to play a new GT game.

And yes this has 5 tracks, as far as I know.

Personally, I think I will be getting this game as it has tons of content and not one single person with the Japanese version has complained about not getting their money's worth.

Think of it this way; it is $40 to get a jump start on learning the new physics and playing online as much as 9 months to a year ahead of everyone else.

FoolKiller, the morons who don't understand what their $40 is buying will never go away. What needs to go away are marketing departments that keep listening to them.

I'd be surprised to see full GT5 by the end of 08, so $40 is more than reasonable to get started, and I don't think online updates to the NA/EU version are out of the question. Any added tracks, cars, or content would increase the value of your purchase right there. At some point PD has to allow individual hosting of races online, maybe we'll get this with the US release.

No matter what, I'll finally be buying that PS3 Sony is so desparate for me to have.

im hesitant to but more than likely i will buy prologue. sure its a $40 demo but it has enough content and online racing to make up for it and honestly, who knows how long the full gt will be out so why not.

Oh...O.K., I just had to make sure someone wasn't trying do dis one of the more realistic racing games out there. Colin McRae Rally 3 was my only other option for a realistic rally racing game before the new version "DiRT" came out.:dopey:👍

R.I.P. Colin McRae. :(

I'm aware of the other side of the fact that they're tons of people that did things like bought a PS3 just for GT5 etc etc. I wasn't arguing against your logic or your reasons I was just mentioning their logical point of view some people would understand that they aren't (like mister 14 year old kid said) morons. Some people just aren't willing to spend $100+ for the same game and some are. Hell some spent 100+ for Halo3 because it came with a helmet.

I myself am still undecided, I can get bored of only 5 tracks very quickly.

You know, some of the people I know in person who have mentioned the $100 for a game have Rock Band.

And I would agree about getting bored of 5 tracks quickly if there wasn't online.

Oh man, I CANNOT wait for this game!! THIS is the reason why I want a PS3 in the first place!!:drool::bowdown: This is the reason why I bought a Logitech Playlink; for this game!!
