Wait...are you saying that brand central cars that appear in the UCD are sometimes more expensive "used" than "new?" As a rule, I never buy cars from the UCD if they are available in BC so I've never really paid much attention to the actual pricing, but I always just assumed they would be lower priced in the UCD.
No - it's that the 2002 Nissan Silvia is the first time a low-mileage Special Pick was less expensive than what it costs (or would cost) in Brand Central. The BC/new cost is 68,000 Cr., while the Special Pick version in the UCD is 62,000 Cr. All of the other Special Picks that had fewer than 3,000 miles cost what they would have had they been in Brand Central (twice the cost of a new engine/0.8 times the cost of a new body).

It also is the second time a car available in BC is a Special Pick; the 2002 Daihatsu Copen was a Special Pick the week the Lightweight K-Cup was a Special Event in the Weekly Challenges, though the mileage was significantly higher than the usual Special Pick. In fact, the 14,366 miles on the clock on that one was higher than the 11,378 miles it was the last several prior appearances (except for a 1-day flip to 37,031 miles in October) and the subsequent appearance earlier this month, yet its 16,000-Cr. cost, while lower than the 18,000-Cr. cost in BC, matched its UCD high when those examples had only 5,074 miles.

I guess what I'm confused about is why anyone would ever buy a low-mileage special pick car from the UCD when they can buy the same car with zero miles on it from brand central whenever they want? Is there something unique about the special pick cars that I'm un-aware of?

To save a few thousand credits. Not worth it in my opinion - I never buy anything from the UCD if it's available in BC.

But didn't Eggstor say that the Special Pick Silvia in the UCD is the first time one is LESS expensive than the car from Brand Central?

Ah yes, you're right. I don't know why anyone would pay the same money for something from the UCD as from BC. There is literally no advantage to that.

I bet the Countach 25th Anniversary that just showed up is a lower-mileage example, as it's the most expensive it's ever been, at 800k credits! Though I do wonder what color it could be...

Up until the Silvia spec-R, all of the ultra-low-mileage (sub-3,000 miles) UCD Special Picks were pre-2001 cars and only available from the UCD. They were treated like Hagerty's or Brand Central cars and offered at (the theoretical) full price, even though some sub-5,000 mile regular-rotation used cars have been (and in at least one case, currently is being) offered at a discount.

The Silvia spec-R is unique in that its odometer reads 2002 km (its model year), but is less expensive than its (not-theoretical) full price.

This BMW M3 '89 is so good looking in this shade of silver. To be honest, that's the very first time I see it in the UCD.

Yeah holy black Ferrari bonanza! I had to grab several of them. I'd like to get the F50 as well but I'm a tad cash shy just now lol.

It's time to add the 1992 Ford Escort RS Cosworth to the milk carton, as every car that sold out on or prior to its initial sell-out date of 12/9/2024 has made at least one regular-rotation appearance. It joins the 2004 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VIII MR GSR (first and last seen in the UCD between 10/3/2024 and 10/14/2024, selling out on 10/15/2024) and the 1997 BMW M3 (its only regular-rotation appearance was between 11/6/2024 and 11/13/2024, selling out 11/14/2024, though it had a special picks one between 12/24/2024 and 12/30/2024, selling out 12/31/2024) on the milk carton.

Can someone explain why you would wait for a specific colour to become available when you can just repaint the car in GT auto?
It's been discussed several times in this thread already, but again...several reasons. For one thing, some of the car models have interiors that change with the different exterior colors, and you can't just re-paint the interiors. But even if the interior doesn't change, collecting the different color variations is just something to do in the game. If all I want is a specific favorite car in some particular color then sure, whatever...just repaint the one I have. But if the goal is to collect (and keep) all of the colors of a specific favorite car, then there's no advantage to repainting. You still need an example of the car in question that you're willing to repaint. If I'm collecting all the colors of the Testarozza and there's a total of 10 different colors I still need to buy 10 of the cars to paint them so I might as well just grab them as they appear in the different colors.

I do it because I think it's a funny way to collect more cars.

Another reason since I play on PS4: custom races. On a full grid with each car having a different livery (even if it's just a different color with no decals) the FPS sometimes drops significantly (especially with rain) and it tends to freeze/crash on photomode. That doesn't happen when the cars are using their default color and it's quickier to setup some one-make events.

Thank you.

Interesting, Is there a thread which documents the interior changes vs car colour?

Just to add onto some of the points others have made.

When you repaint a car in GT Auto it removes all the factory stickers. While these can be added back using the livery editor, the player uploaded stickers are lower quality (resolution), and the accuracy of the placement of the stickers will vary depending on the player and how much time and effort they spend to getting it right.

A lot of players would prefer to spend their play time doing other things they might enjoy rather than spending 30 minutes in the livery editor trying to perfectly align a bunch of low resolution stickers, especially when they can just wait for that colour to shop up in one of the dealerships anyway.

Another thing regarding colors; most colors on certain older cars, specifically old american muscle cars are simply not available for purchase and use them for repaint. The classic Camaro Hugger Orange is not available in gt auto for purchase for example.
